Chapter 916: The Realm of Ice Elves (15)
"Let’s see how you handle real fire," Bella muttered, spinning her staff and summoning the Will of Flames. A massive wave of searing fire surged toward the elementals, clashing with their frostfire and creating an explosion of steam and ash. One elemental charged through the firestorm, its flames burning hotter as it fed on the heat, but Bella was ready. She unleashed a Fireball directly into its core, the explosion consuming the creature and leaving only smoldering ice behind.
Her Fire Spirits darted toward another elemental, biting into its icy form and weakening its structure. Bella followed up with Inferno Chains, binding the creature in place as the spirits tore it apart. "Focus fire! Don’t let them recover!" she shouted.
Aisa’s Ghost Armor shimmered as she phased through an elemental’s burning claws. She reappeared behind it, her Silent Blade glowing with spectral energy. Her strikes were swift and deliberate, targeting the exposed core with relentless precision. The elemental flared, trying to trap her in its frostfire, but Aisa activated High Ghostly Presence, her form becoming intangible as she glided through the flames unscathed.
One elemental attempted to grab her, its icy hand closing around her ghostly form. Aisa smirked, phasing through its grip and driving her dagger into its core. The spectral energy caused the core to fracture, the elemental collapsing into a pile of icy rubble.
"They’re sluggish after a core strike. Exploit that," Aisa said, phasing through another attack and delivering a flurry of slashes that dismantled the elemental before it could retaliate.
Luna’s Nightmare Projection turned the battlefield into a surreal landscape, her illusions blending with the flickering light of the frostfire. The elementals hesitated, striking at illusions of themselves while Luna worked her magic from a distance.
She raised her staff, casting Mind Fog to disorient the creatures. One elemental swung wildly at an illusion, its movements becoming erratic under the psychic assault. Luna followed up with a Nightmare Bolt, the psychic energy destabilizing its core and causing it to collapse in on itself.
When another elemental charged at her, Luna cast Mirror Image, her clones scattering in all directions. The elemental hesitated, unsure which target was real. Luna used the distraction to conjure a Web of the Wony’s Burning Heart, trapping the creature in a lattice of fiery illusions that burned it from within.
"Keep them confused and separated! They’re weaker alone!" she called, her illusions weaving chaos across the battlefield.
The six heroes fought as a seamless unit, each member playing to their strengths. Orion and Cy held the line, their sheer strength and resilience keeping the elementals from overwhelming the group. Findir and Aisa moved like shadows, exploiting the openings created by their teammates and delivering precise strikes to the cores. Bella’s flames countered the frostfire, her fire magic overpowering the elementals’ icy regeneration. Luna’s illusions and psychic attacks kept the battlefield in disarray, ensuring the enemies could never coordinate.
Despite the chaotic and unpredictable nature of the frostfire elementals, the party’s synergy and adaptability kept them one step ahead. Each attack, dodge, and spell was executed with precision, the six working together to push forward through the ravine, their determination unshaken. The battle raged on, the air filled with the clash of fire, shadow, and ice.
As the party pressed further into the frozen ravine, the battlefield trembled. A deep, guttural grinding echoed through the icy chasm as towering Ice-Bound Sentinels emerged from the frost-encrusted walls. These colossal guardians, encased in ancient glacial armor, moved with deliberate, crushing force. Their hollow visors burned with ethereal blue fire, their bodies layered in permafrost so thick that even Bella’s flames barely made them steam. In one hand, they carried immense cleavers of solid ice, and in the other, massive shields carved from frozen bedrock. The cold around them became suffocating, tendrils of icy mist slithering toward the heroes like living things, seeking to slow their movements and freeze them where they stood.
The ice elves, emboldened by the Sentinels’ arrival, renewed their assault, leaping onto the massive constructs to gain height and rain down ice spears. The battlefield shifted yet again, demanding an immediate tactical response.
Orion planted his feet, his Commanding Aura surging outward to stabilize his allies against the crushing presence of the Sentinels. One of the massive constructs swung its cleaver downward, the force alone sending a shockwave through the ice. Orion dashed sideways, narrowly avoiding the impact, and countered by channeling Blood-Forged Strength into his arms.
With a roar, he drove his blood-forged blade into the Sentinel’s shield arm, the crimson energy corroding the permafrost like acid. The behemoth retaliated by thrusting its shield forward, attempting to crush him against the icy walls. Orion pivoted, twisting his massive form with deceptive agility, using the momentum to land a bone-shattering uppercut to the Sentinel’s exposed core. The creature staggered, its shield arm weakening as Orion activated Blood Chains, crimson tendrils wrapping around the Sentinel’s legs to restrict its movements.
"Focus the cores!" Orion bellowed.
Findir flickered between enemies like a storm-born phantom. As an ice elf leapt from a Sentinel’s shoulder to plunge a spear into him, Findir twisted mid-air, kicking off the elf’s chest to launch himself toward the Sentinel’s faceplate. He spun his daggers, their Void Coating slicing through the icy mist that attempted to snare him.
As the Sentinel swung a colossal arm in an attempt to swat him away, Findir disappeared mid-leap, reappearing in a gust of wind behind the construct’s head. His Eagle Eye honed in on a network of frost runes embedded within its skull—a weak point. With surgical precision, he drove both daggers into the runes, disrupting the arcane energy inside. The Sentinel convulsed, its movements becoming sluggish.
Findir vaulted off its back, throwing a dagger into the eye of an ice elf mid-fall, before landing in a crouch beside Orion.
Cy stood in the midst of the chaos, his Abyssal Shield raised high as two Sentinels charged him simultaneously, their cleavers crashing against his defense. The sheer force of impact sent cracks spidering through the ice beneath him, but Cy didn’t falter. Instead, he let out a guttural roar and pushed back, using Empower to reinforce his stance.
One Sentinel reeled its arm back for another strike, but Cy was faster. He launched himself forward with Wave of Darkness, his massive Abyssal Spear impaling straight through the Sentinel’s knee joint, sending the towering behemoth toppling sideways like a collapsing glacier. As it fell, Cy spun his spear and drove its tip into the creature’s visor, shattering the icy mask and snuffing out the ethereal fire within.
Before the second Sentinel could strike again, Cy activated Dark Tether, his shadows latching onto its arm and twisting it off course, making the cleaver’s swing miss by inches.
"Orion, take it down!" he growled, reinforcing his stance against the still-struggling Sentinel.
Bella’s Flame Robes crackled as she launched a torrent of fireballs toward the nearest Sentinel. The flames exploded against its armor but failed to melt the ancient ice completely.
"Tch—too dense!" Bella muttered, thinking fast.
Instead, she adjusted her tactics. With a flick of her staff, she commanded her Fire Spirits to dive into the cracks in the Sentinels’ bodies where Orion and Cy had already landed blows. The spirits burrowed into the fissures, igniting from the inside out. The Sentinel let out an eerie, hollow wail as steam and fire burst from its cracks, melting its structure from within.
As an ice elf tried to ambush her, Bella swung her staff, conjuring a chain of searing flame that wrapped around the elf’s throat before she yanked them forward and blasted them point-blank with a Scorching Surge, sending them flying into the ravine wall.
Aisa glided through the battlefield, her Ghost Step making her untouchable. She moved like a whisper of wind, appearing just long enough to slash through the knees of a Sentinel before vanishing again.
One Sentinel swung its shield at her, attempting to crush her outright. Instead of dodging, Aisa activated Phantom Shift, phasing through the shield as if she were mist. She reappeared inside the Sentinel’s guard, her Silent Blade crackling with spectral energy.
She plunged her dagger into the Sentinel’s core, twisting the blade as ghostly energy disrupted the construct’s soul-forged magic. The Sentinel froze mid-motion, its form flickering, before it collapsed into dust.
"That’s two down," she murmured before disappearing again.
Luna stood in the heart of the battlefield, her staff raised high as her Nightmare Projection expanded, distorting reality itself. The remaining Sentinels hesitated, their glowing visors flickering in confusion as phantasmal horrors surrounded them.
One Sentinel swung wildly at illusions of itself, striking nothing but air. Another stumbled, its mind ensnared by Mind Fog, unable to discern reality from nightmare.
With a sly smile, Luna unleashed Nightmare Bolt, striking the last conscious Sentinel. The ethereal energy corrupted its magic, turning its ice against itself. Frost spread unnaturally through its body, freezing its limbs solid until it crumbled into frozen debris.
