Chapter 337: Chapter 299: How Could He Be So Rude in Front of Yuanbao

Seeing Flynn collapse, Brooke approached him with a puzzled look.

Gu Ning raised a paw. "...Hello."

Brooke’s first reaction upon getting close to the female was an assault on his sense of smell, as if it had been viciously beaten.

Then came the female’s soft, gentle voice, greeting him.

Hearing her voice, Brooke felt a scratchy tickle in his chest, a tingly sensation that brought with it a strange sense of familiarity.

And yet, the voice was completely unfamiliar to him.

Soon enough, he understood where the feeling came from.

His gaze fell on the female’s face.

The female sitting in the car had half her face concealed beneath a scarf, revealing only a pair of bright, round, and innocent-looking eyes. They were a pair of eyes that were somehow both unfamiliar and familiar.

The unfamiliarity came from her soft, delicate features, so different from a Beastman’s. The familiarity came from the feeling that he had seen this face somewhere before.

What was even more familiar, however, was the faint, sweet scent mixed in with the overpowering aroma of the alpha wolf.

"...You." In the few seconds that Brooke stared blankly at the face before him, his mind raced.

The various things that had been worrying him all connected in that single moment.

The strange fight that night, the undeniable female scent, the conflict between the two military districts... and the albums of the virtual female that Flynn had spread all over the table.

Now, it all converged on this female.

The matter that had left him on edge for days was suddenly clear, like the winter sun tearing through thick clouds to pour down its light, dazzling him to the point of dizziness.

His nerves, already frayed from days without proper rest, were shattered by the impact of the scent and the truth, leaving him utterly disoriented.

Brooke staggered back two steps, trying to steady himself, only to be tripped by the twitching tail of his superior lying at his feet. And just like that, he fell.

Gu Ning: "..." ’Seriously? A matching pair of scammers?’

She looked back at Leighton and the others, a little lost and helpless. ’Should we run? Or wait for them to try and shake us down?’

Leighton and the other two slowly gave her a thumbs-up.

"Impressive, Miss Gu Ning," Belial praised sincerely.

"Truly impressive, Miss Gu Ning." The corners of Mingxi’s eyes curved up as he watched her with a smile, his sparkling, light-colored pupils still holding the searing heat from moments ago.

Gu Ning still hadn’t fully processed the wave of awkwardness. Her gaze flickered past him, too embarrassed and reluctant to meet his eyes.

’She knew that most Beastmen were rough and boisterous, unconventional. Since they grew up in a different world, their views on certain things were completely different from hers.’

’Beastmen could express and accept things related to intimacy quite naturally. They were direct and passionate, much like the courtship rituals of the animal kingdom.’

’But she was human, and certain human sensibilities made her unable to quickly process the awkwardness of intimate contact with a stranger.’

’Besides, it hadn’t been just *any* intimate contact. Even though she was wearing a small-sized, extra-thick version of the same combat uniform as Alex and his team, she could still clearly feel the rock-hard pressure from behind her.’

’When she’d gotten off the young lion’s lap, she had even glimpsed a dark patch on his white, gold-threaded combat trousers, looking like a damp stain.’

Now, Mingxi had tied his jacket around his waist, concealing the embarrassing evidence.

If it weren’t for the blush that hadn’t faded from his face and his sweaty forehead, he would have looked as if nothing at all had happened, as if the recent incident had been just a trivial little accident.

’He’s actually quite composed,’ Gu Ning thought. ’Based on her few brief interactions with him in the past, and setting aside the misunderstandings caused by her identity, he was a very polite and well-mannered Beastman.’

’He exuded the noble air of someone raised in an elite family. He was probably one of those young masters who had been properly brought up by his family or clan.’

"Good job, little bunny." Leighton couldn’t help but reach out and ruffle her hair, half-joking with a smile, "What are you running for? All you have to do is stand there and they all keel over."

His words snapped her out of her thoughts. Gu Ning ducked her head, grabbed his large hand, and pushed it toward the steering wheel. "Drive! Let’s go, let’s go."

’Make a run for it while they’re down.’

After saying that, she saw the giant Wolf King standing outside their vehicle. She poked her head out and asked, "Alex, I want to ride you. Can I?"

The black-haired Wolf King froze for a moment, then a smile spread in his eyes.

’Looks like I’ll have to find time to properly teach her the common tongue. Otherwise, her overly direct phrasing will easily attract trouble from those who don’t know their place.’

Leighton reached out and hauled the little female back in. "Ride him? Didn’t you get enough of a ride last night? Do you really hate sitting in my car that much?"

’He’d finally gotten lucky for once, drawing the lot to sit with the little bunny. He couldn’t let a certain someone ruin it by breaking the rules.’

After Gu Ning sat back down, she realized what Leighton was implying and said, "You... You’d better not..."

Seeing the little bunny’s flustered and annoyed expression, Leighton grinned. "I’d better not what? I haven’t asked for anything yet."

Gu Ning: "You. Don’t. Talk."

’Gu Ning felt just as wary of him as she did of the young lions. He had arrested her a couple of times and even locked her in a freezing-cold detention cell. He’d arrested Barto and Cook before, too. He was a police officer impartially enforcing the law, that was true, but she still felt a certain resistance toward him, and even a little bit of fear.’

’Besides, her identity had almost been exposed because of him several times. Alex finding out who she was so quickly back then was largely thanks to this sheep.’

’If Leighton weren’t on their side, then with her pretending to be a Mixed Breed and hanging out with Barto and his friends every day—plus the fact that Barto and the others were regulars at the police station—he would have plenty of leverage over them.’

’In her eyes, Leighton was a major threat.’

’He was nowhere near as easy to fool as the young lion who ate five meals a day.’

"Why can’t I talk? Don’t you like the sound of my voice?" Leighton chuckled as he watched the little bunny turn her head away, clearly giving him the cold shoulder. "What sweet things do you want to hear? Tell me, and I’ll learn how to say them."

Gu Ning ignored him. She rested her head against the car window and watched the two Beastmen on the ground scramble back to their feet. The pair noticed the little female leaning on the window, watching them. Flustered, they covered their vital areas and looked left and right, as if searching for something.

Seeing this, Mingxi and the others started to look for some clothes to give them. However, the two felt they had lost too much face in front of this female. Feeling too ashamed to interact with her in their humanoid forms for the moment, they immediately shifted back into their beast forms.

’I’ve lost a lifetime’s worth of face today,’ Flynn wailed internally. ’How could I be... be so improper in front of Yuanbao!’

’Although he couldn’t be completely certain that this female was Yuanbao, he would never mistake those eyes and that aura.’

’Yuanbao was a virtual female, but this reporter was a real one.’

’A truth so exciting it could make him faint was laid out right before him. The comments that occasionally popped up in Gu Demiao Ning’s comment section, questioning whether she was a real, living female, now seemed to be confirmed.’

Flynn felt so excited he thought he was going to collapse again.

’This team wasn’t here to sabotage him; they were clearly a stroke of good luck!’

After changing back to his beast form, Flynn suppressed his excitement, shook out his thick fur, and scratched his head a couple of times with his paw. Then, holding his head high with his chest puffed out, he walked over to Gu Ning, raised a paw with a grin, and let out a, "Meow."
