Chapter 115- Duo Of Hell And Death

Rize looked at Rose for a second before he rubbed the back of his head. "I mean, if you really want to work together, that’s fine by me."

"Oh?" Rose was surprised when she heard Rize’s reply. Even though she had asked him to join her, she expected him to turn it down. After all, even if he knew who she was, the two were still completely strangers. She could have malicious intent as far as Rize is concerned. "I didn’t expect you to accept so quickly. Are you not worried that I might take your badges?"

"Well, if you really wanted to do that, you would’ve tried to do that already. Besides..." Rize walked forward with the bag over his shoulder as he stared calmly at Rose. His eyes were serene and peaceful, and yet the words that he said next made her frown. "I don’t think you will have an easy time doing that."

His words were a blatant threat to Rose. ’If you try to take the badges, you will face consequences.’ And for a moment, Rose was certain that Rize wasn’t joking or exaggerating. The boy gave her a feeling only a handful of people her age ever gave her. He was the real deal, and she didn’t even need to see him in action to realize that.

"Well, you certainly have a point." She said in a calm tone. "It’s a deal, then."

"Where were you heading initially?" Rize asked.

"No particular place; I was just roaming around and taking as many badges as I could. There are people who are looking for me. The situation is only going to get more chaotic soon."

It had been only 20 minutes since everything started, and the fights were ensuing in every corner of the dome. As they stood there, they saw a group of candidates running in their direction. They were all chasing one guy who had a pile of badges in his hands.

The two looked at each other before they moved a distance away. When the group got close, they emerged and attacked them from both sides.

"Huh?!!!"

Everything happened in a moment as Rize tackled the one at the front to the ground and then took the badges before he rushed toward the rest. ’Hm, some still have it... Are they working together?’

Judging from how they seemed like they weren’t hostile toward each other, Rize suspected that these candidates were teaming up, just like how he did with Rose.

"Only two, don’t let them take the badges!" One yelled as the group spread out and attacked the two individuals, thinking they could outnumber them.

Rize dodged a flying punch coming toward him as he elbowed someone in the stomach, making them gasp painfully. Then, he turned around with a spin and kicked someone in the side, sending them stumbling several feet as they fell to the ground, coughing violently.

"You bastard!!!"

Another attacked him from behind and wrapped his arms around him, trying to restrain him. Rize looked over his shoulder before he sighed and exerted some power, easily breaking free before he turned around and grabbed the boy and tackled him down with ease.

"I’m taking that!!!" As the man fell, Rize heard someone rush toward him. So, he simply turned around and hit him with the bag filled with badges.

"There, I gave it to you." He said playfully as he looked up. On the other side, Rose was doing the same, one-sidedly beating up the candidates as if they were nothing.

*BANG*

A punch to the face sent the boy stumbling back as he fell to the ground. Her methods were visibly more violent than Rize’s and carried a lot more brutality to it. Knowing the kind of family she came from, it wasn’t shocking that her fighting style was like that.

’She was always a very raw and brutal character. Even though she seems nice on the surface, when it comes to fights, she would hack people to pieces as if they were nothing.’

Rize thought to himself as he watched Rose grab the boy before she yanked the badge off his body and looked up.

"What?" She asked.

"No, nothing at all," Rize said as he looked away and started grabbing all the badges left in the area. ’I’m really surprised I haven’t come across someone I could consider strong except for Rose. It seems finding them amongst 100 million individuals is damn near impossible.’

"Let’s go, we might find others nearby," Rose said as she put the badges away and looked at Rize.

"Yeah, I’m after you."

With that, the duo started running, heading toward the source of the noise. The test was far from over, and the situation was only escalating with time.

Unbeknownst to them, things were about to take a very drastic turn.

***

Time passed slowly for Rize and Rose as they went everywhere, taking every single badge they could find. The two were surprisingly very coordinated. They understood each other to a fascinating degree without saying many words. They weren’t even friends or acquaintances, but when it came to fights, the two appeared seamless, taking down groups of candidates effortlessly.

Each fight didn’t last more than a minute before they moved to the next one and the one after. Minutes ticked away as the situation in the dome grew more and more fascinating. More groups formed, people made alliances and teams to make sure they increased their chances of surviving this test.

These groups would aim for lone candidates or smaller groups. If one of them lost their badge, they would try to find it and take it back. These teams were mostly made up of friends or companions. However, there were those who simply wanted people to work with.

Except not everyone would honor that kind of agreement. What that led to was incidents where candidates would betray their teammates, take the badges, and escape before they could catch them.

The entire place was boiling with movement. Meanwhile, eyes watched the scenes from above, unbeknownst to the masses. These were the ’supervisors’ of the test, making sure that everything was going without a hitch.

They had eyes everywhere within the dome and minds capable of processing the influx of information that passes through every single second.

Rize and Rose continued running for a while before they ended up in a neighboring district filled with candidates. Looking around them, they saw all kinds of people fighting.

"What a mess..." Rize muttered. "It almost looks like the fights are getting more brutal and on the edge."

Just a single look at their faces told Rize enough. People were getting lost in the feeling and forgetting that they didn’t even hold any grudges against the people they were fighting. They even forgot that this was all to get badges, not to beat up the opponent.

However, the desperate desire to get a spot and the accumulated stress and pressure made the fights bloodier and more dangerous, edging toward the illegal aspects of this test. Rize was worried that someone would break the rules.

That someone might actually do something bad- then what would happen?

As the two were about to take another step, suddenly, they heard a noise coming from above. Looking up, their eyes widened as they saw two people fighting on the rooftop of a building. The two were near the edge, punching and kicking each other brutally, almost unaware of the fact that they were going to fall if they kept fighting.

"Oh no," Rize muttered.

Rose watched in silence, her eyes cold and unreadable. Others nearby noticed that and looked up.

"Ay... shouldn’t someone stop them?"

"HEY, YOU TWO!!! STOP!!!" One person yelled as the realization struck everyone. Some even tried to rush inside to stop them. However, just then, one of them suddenly yelled as they kicked their enemy.

The other stumbled back as he tripped over the edge... falling to the ground.

"Oh shit!!" People yelled as they watched in horror. The height of the fall made his descent so fast that nobody could even react in time and try to save them.

*BANG*

The boy smashed into the ground as a horrifying cracking sound echoed in the area. Many looked away from the morbid sight. The boy spasmed a few times before he stopped moving. He died on the spot.

Not a single soul made a noise for a few seconds as they stared at the dead boy. Many of the people present had never even seen a dead body before, let alone witness someone die before them.

"Y-You have got to be kidding me..."

"Holy shit!!"

"What the hell?!!!"

"Help, someone call help!!!"

The reactions were those of terror and confusion as people rushed to the dead boy.

"This is bad... This is really bad." Rize muttered as he looked up at the other person; they were staring down with horror in their eyes, their body shaking.

"No, no... I didn’t... I didn’t mean to..." They muttered as they stepped back. Then, he turned around to try to run.

Except, at that moment, a silhouette appeared before him, almost like a ghost.
