Chapter 1714: Falling For The Act (Magic Castle Bonus)
Chapter 1714: Falling For The Act (Magic Castle Bonus)
Villain Ch 1714. Falling For The Act (Magic Castle Bonus)
He didn’t outstat everyone. He outplayed them.
Still… she couldn’t shake the chill.
He held his record for this long. Every Hell’s Gate player had challenged him. Every guild leader, raid champion, PvP prodigy… and none had ever broken through.
Unscathed.
Except once.
Her eyes narrowed. “Wait a second…”
Allen glanced at her sideways.
Azura leaned in. “That scratch. That one hit. -1 HP. That was from… Alex. In the last war event.”
Allen didn’t answer.
Her eyes widened. “Did you let him?”
Allen’s lips twitched.
Then he pressed one finger to his mouth, that maddening smirk returning like a ghost slipping out of his collar. “Don’t tell anyone.”
Azura’s mouth fell open. “You let a healer scratch you so the event logs wouldn’t say ‘perfect run’?!”
“It’s a war game,” he said, shrugging. “Gotta make it look like I bleed. I need to hype the players. Give them hope.”
“You’re insane.”
“You already knew that.”
She couldn’t stop laughing now. It bubbled up through her exhaustion and spilled into the sterile quiet of the Goldborne gaming room. She bent forward slightly, catching her breath on her knees.
Allen just waited.
Same posture. Same unreadable gaze.
She finally looked up at him again, still grinning. “At least I know now. It’s you.”
He met her eyes, slow and deliberate.
“What are you going to do with that information?”
Azura tilted her head, studying him.
He wasn’t afraid.
He wasn’t even curious.
Just calmly observing. Always watching. Like he was already ten moves ahead and wanted to see which of her paths she’d take.
Azura stepped a little closer.
“I’m not gonna leak it,” she said softly.
He didn’t answer. Didn’t need to.
Azura stared at him a moment longer.
He wasn’t what she remembered. Not just the Devil Emperor.
This version of Allen?
He was sharp edges wrapped in stillness. Danger masked in velvet.
A blade in a velvet sheath.
Goldborne’s cold young heir.
The villain of the game.
Her cousin.
And the one guy she couldn’t stop watching.
Her throat felt dry again. Her voice came lower. “You know… I came here tonight thinking I was going to prove a theory.”
Allen raised a brow. “And?”
“I ended up getting murdered. Violently.”
He smirked. “Brutal honesty. I like that.”
Azura rolled her eyes, but her smile lingered. “I still can’t believe it.”
“That I’m the Emperor?”
“That you’re this good at pretending you’re not.”
Allen shrugged. “I had to. You saw how people treat him.”
She nodded, quiet again.
He wasn’t wrong.
The Devil Emperor wasn’t a title.
It was a warning.
And now she knew the truth.
Now she had the truth.
But instead of feeling powerful, she felt something else entirely.
Something warmer.
Something… worse.
She cleared her throat and took a slow breath.
“I’m glad it’s you,” she said.
Allen blinked.
Azura stepped back, picking up her jacket from the bench near her pod. “I hated the Emperor. But you? I never hated you.”
She looked over her shoulder, one brow raised. “I don’t know if that makes me stupid or stubborn.”
Allen’s smirk softened.
“A little of both.”
She snorted and shook her head, hair falling loose again. Her whole body still buzzed from the duel.
Just him.
Standing there. All calm arrogance and quiet fire. Like the slaughter he just delivered didn’t even register.
They were cousins.
Well… kind of.
Close enough to joke about it when it suited them. Distant enough that the silence between them now felt more charged than familial.
Azura cleared her throat, not looking at him. “Then it makes me foolish.”
Allen tilted his head slightly. “Do you mean trusting me?”
“Trusting you,” she echoed, glancing back. “Falling for the act. Fighting the Emperor, never realizing…”
She trailed off.
He just stood there, patient.
She tucked her hair behind one ear, almost annoyed by her own heartbeat. “Do you think I’ll see you differently now?”
Allen raised an eyebrow. “Do you?”
Azura thought about that. Really thought. Then turned, arms crossed. “That depends.”
“On?”
“Do I have to see you as the Emperor now? Or see the Emperor as you?”
Allen chuckled. Not loud. Not mocking. Just amused in that quiet, infuriatingly Goldborne way.
He took a slow step toward her, voice even. “That depends too.”
She rolled her eyes. “So dramatic.”
“I live in a crypt and have a throne made of demon bones.”
“Fair.”
He stopped in front of her, arms at his sides, gaze easy. “So what’s it gonna be?”
Azura stared at him for a beat, then exhaled. “I’ll act like usual. The Emperor is an enemy. And you…”
Her voice faltered for half a breath.
“…are you.”
Allen tilted his head. “Practical.”
She shrugged. “Realistic.”
He gave her a short nod. “Great.”
Azura started pulling her jacket on, stretching one arm into the sleeve with a wince. “Anyway. I should go home now. It’s late. I need ice. And probably emotional therapy.”
Allen stepped toward the door, casually. “You’re already here.”
She blinked. “What?”
“You’re at the estate. Why not stay for dinner?”
Azura hesitated. Her lips parted, but no words came out right away. It was such a normal offer. Almost stupidly normal, considering he just murdered her virtually and outed himself as the most feared player in the game.
“I… guess,” she said slowly. “I’ll stay.”
Allen smiled faintly. “Good.”
Azura let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding. Her posture eased. She didn’t move yet, still processing everything. But she didn’t say no.
And then Allen stepped closer.
Too close.
Azura looked up.
“What—”
He kissed her.
Just like that.
No warning. No soft lead-in. No breathy romantic build-up.
Just a clean, sharp, undeniable kiss.
His hand didn’t touch her. No guiding her face, no dramatic push against the wall. Just a tilt of his head, a subtle lean forward—and his lips pressed against hers.
Firm.
Unapologetic.
She froze.
