Village System: Blessed With the Duty of Reproduction

Chapter 90: How do you fight a regenerating giant?

  • Next Chapter

Ever since the battle against the Typhon Tribe, Kanan had sat down with Chief Solan to come up with safety contingencies for the protection of the village.

Currently, there wasn’t anything grand that they could do. Many reasons made it this way, such as the lack of advanced technology.

Kanan didn’t worry about this, though. What he wanted was a structured system that could respond to threats; therefore, he broke the system into three codes.

Code Yellow. Code Red. Code Black.

Yellow meant that there was a threat they had to look out for and use their artillery on the wall. But this didn’t mean that they would be attacked. It was more like a warning code.

Red meant that they were under attack and they had to mobilize their warriors in order to quell said threat. This included their mounted weapons on the walls. The Elders and Chief might have to join in as well if things looked bad.

Black meant that the fate of their village was on the line, and every capable hunter, guard, and warrior needed to be ready to fight. In this code, every healer and herbalist was on standby, the barrier would be erected around the village, and the citizens would head to the newly created safe bunkers that were built underground.

Thankfully, this threat didn’t fit the category of a Code Black, but Kanan easily saw it reaching that level if the wall was breached.

Warriors on the wall were firing as many ballistae as they could, killing multiple monsters with one massive arrow while preparing to shoot the giant once it got up.

Arrows rained down from the skies with deadly precision, the scale of the volley darkening the sky for some seconds.

Kanan, still on the wall, looked around to see if anything was off. There was no way a giant monster could just make it this far without him being alerted. This meant that it entered this side of the mountain in some other fashion.

As for how, Kanan didn’t know.

Once Nala got up, she and all of the warriors felt an immense boost to their power. It was so great that even their surface injuries were healed.

"Haha! It’s Kanan!"

"Yeahh! Kanan is here!"

"There’s no way we can lose now!"

"I’m ready to rip that monster to pieces!"

Nala turned around and saw Kanan standing on the wall, his hand extended as he shared his power with the warriors. Thanks to him, her power was restored, and she would be able to use that massive attack once more.

"The giant is up!"

"Everyone, fall back!"

"Get away from Elder Nala’s range of attack!"

Nala shot into the air again and crossed her arms. This time, she planned on cutting the monster into pieces.

"Regenerate from this, bastard." Space twisted and unfolded around the giant as it had done moments before, its body twisting and turning in multiple directions.

That same ear-piercing screech rang out from its mouth as it cried in pain, the twisted shriek unsettling everyone who could hear it.

"Hold on." Kanan wasn’t an expert when it came to Nala’s abilities, but he knew that if someone was caught in her attack, it was game over for them. "So why the hell is that giant still able to move?!"

Nala, too, didn’t understand what was happening, but before she could even process what was going on, a massive fist struck her whole body, sending her flying into the wall at speeds so great that not even Kanan could react to the impact.

Everyone turned their heads in unison. It wasn’t every day you saw one of the most powerful warriors get one-shotted like that. But today was that day for them.

As for that giant, it was standing perfectly fine, as if Nala’s space manipulation hadn’t touched it at all.

"T-Take that giant down!"

"Dammit!"

It was only thanks to how far the monster was from the village that Kanan didn’t issue a code black, but as that thing drew closer, there was the sudden urge to do so. A fear had crept into his body, one that told him to run, but he was stronger than that.

Still, after getting a better look at the giant, he wished he could erase the sight from his memory.

The monstrous giant towered over the village walls, its grotesquely muscular body covered in thick, misshapen flesh that appeared to have been sewn together from different creatures. Four eyes glared menacingly from its deformed head, while its enormous mouth stretched horizontally, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth.

Four massive arms ended in wickedly long claws, each capable of tearing a warrior apart with ease. Its sheer size was horrifying, but its appearance was even worse. The sight of the abomination sent a wave of terror through the warriors, many of whom had never encountered anything remotely comparable.

Some stood frozen, unable to take their eyes off the monstrosity, while others instinctively tightened their grips on their weapons, their hands trembling. For the first time, many of them wondered whether they were facing something they could actually kill.

Still, the majority of them rushed forward to bring the beast down, as it was their job to protect the village and its people.

Kanan wanted to move in to help everyone, fight side by side with the warriors, but he knew he couldn’t. One wrong move would spell the end of him, and that was a greater defeat than losing some warriors to the monster.

So, he waited. The chief would be arriving soon, and once he did, they could see what to do next. In the meantime, he would use his power to strengthen his people.

Warriors bombarded the giant with their abilities, its flesh being burned or cut open. Arrows from the ballistae were firing into its body, but the giant just removed them with ease and continued making its way toward the walls.

Though he couldn’t fight up close, this didn’t mean that Kanan couldn’t help out in any way that he could. He believed that giving power wasn’t enough, so he decided to do something else.

Kanan swept his hands through the air, drawing a perfect circle of spirit energy before him. The ring pulsed and crackled violently as he brought his hands together, his fingers touching to form a triangular gap between his palms.

At the very center of the circle, spirit energy suddenly sparked to life, rapidly gathering into a single point. The sheer intensity of the energy sent powerful gusts whipping through his hair as the air around him began to tremble.

Kanan poured more and more of his power into that tiny point, causing it to grow brighter and more volatile with every passing moment. The energy crackled furiously, threatening to burst before he could unleash it. Then, with a final surge of power, he released it.

A colossal beam of blue spirit energy erupted from the circle, tearing through the air with tremendous force. It raced straight toward the giant and slammed into its chest, ripping through its flesh with devastating power.
