Warriors, guards, and hunters surged forward from the village, pouring across the charred plains as the great barrier continued to shimmer behind them. Above the wall, archers, crossbowmen, and ballista crews opened fire, while spirit users unleashed flames and lightning into the approaching horde.

Kanan remained near the front of the village. His eyes immediately locked back onto the enormous ape standing atop the barrier. The corpse crouched and leaped, crashing onto the dome with enough force to make the entire barrier tremble, its cracks spreading more than before.

Kanan lifted one hand. A concentrated blast of spirit energy tore through the air and struck the ape directly in the chest. The massive corpse was thrown from the barrier, its body crashing into the burned earth below.

A Typhon warrior rushed toward it, fire spiraling around his hands.\

Kanan glanced at him. "Burn him."

The Typhon warrior nodded. Flames consumed the fallen Nemean corpse until nothing remained.

Kanan watched silently for a moment before turning back toward the battlefield. He waved his hand and a wave of spirit energy swept across the advancing army, amplifying every warrior, guard, and hunter it touched.

The battlefield exploded into violence. Wolves sprinted between warriors, their bodies surrounded by crackling spirit energy. One lunged at a Nemean hunter, only for a Typhon warrior to intercept it with a wall of fire. The hunter immediately drove his spear through the wolf’s skull, and the Typhon warrior burned the corpse before it could rise again.

A massive boar charged another pair.

The Nemean warrior struck it with his axe, knocking it sideways, while his Typhon partner unleashed fire into its exposed body. The boar continued crawling through the flames until the two warriors struck together, finally reducing it to ash.

Above them, a Beast resembling a gigantic hawk swept through the battlefield, its wings releasing razor-sharp blasts of wind. Several warriors were thrown from their feet before a Typhon fire user launched a burning projectile into its wing.

The Beast crashed, and the three Nemean hunters surrounded it immediately.

"Now!" They shouted, hacking into the corpse while the Typhon warrior burned it.

Kanan watched everything. His eyes moved constantly, scanning the battlefield instead of focusing on any single fight.

’Where are you?’ Something was controlling all of this. There had to be a central mind somewhere among the corpses. He just had to figure out where that mind was.

Then suddenly, a scream of rage caught his attention. A Typhon warrior had encountered someone he knew.

The dead man in front of him still wore the remnants of his old tribal markings. Fire spirits flickered around his corpse as he swung his weapon with the same technique he had used in life.

The living warrior froze. His opponent attacked. Another Typhon warrior shoved him aside and blocked the strike.

"Don’t hesitate! They’re dead! Unless you wish to join them, stop hesitating."

The first warrior clenched his teeth before swinging. His blade struck the corpse, and he looked away as his companion burned it.

All around them, similar scenes unfolded.

Some Typhon warriors fought furiously against the dead, anger giving strength to every strike. Others hesitated when they recognized familiar faces, forcing their comrades to cover them until they could continue.

And the Nemeans did not leave them alone. They fought beside them.

A Nemean swordsman shielded a Typhon warrior from a Beast’s claws, while another Typhon fighter burned the creature after they brought it down. A Nemean hunter threw a spear into a charging tiger, then stepped aside as his Typhon partner engulfed it in flames.

Even the wall fighters adapted.

Whenever a corpse broke through the advancing line, arrows and spirit blasts drove it back toward the warriors below. Barriers appeared around wounded fighters, giving them enough time to recover before returning to battle.

The corpse horde began to thin. But there were still far too many. Kanan fired another spirit blast into a cluster of Beasts, scattering them, then immediately resumed searching.

His eyes traveled across the battlefield. Wild animals. Beasts. Typhon corpses. Three Nemean corpses. Unfamiliar warriors. Nothing that he was looking for.

Then he noticed something strange. For only a moment, several corpses in one distant section of the battlefield acted differently from the others.

"Odd." Kanan narrowed his eyes. There were five corpses that were doing the exact thing he was: observing. Though Kanan wasn’t a master when it came to warfare, he understood enough to know that those who observe were typically the ones who were higher in command.

"Kanan, are you not going to join them?" Risha asked, moving her fingers around nervously. The blood, screaming, and death weren’t something she was used to, nor did she like being around.

"No, not yet. It’s not my time to act. I have to find the mastermind behind this whole attack."

"I’m looking for them too." Telah appeared next to Kanan, landing safely as she had flown to his location.

"Telah, nice to see you. Are the other council members going to make an appearance?"

"Yes. They’re waiting for the right time to join the battle, just like you. Is there anything you’ve managed to learn?"

He nodded. "Yes. Do you see those five corpses?" Kanan pointed to the spot he was observing.

"I do....Oh no." Telah began to shake subtly. He clenged her fists hard and wouldn’t stop staring where Kanan pointed. It was as if her eyes were locked on the location.

"What? What’s wrong?"

"Those five are Nik, Nak, Patty, Wak, and Bone. They’re Elite Warriors."

Kanan didn’t have a good feeling about this. The Typhon Tribe were no slouches when it came to combat, rivaling the best from the Nemean Tribe. So to hear that they were Elite warriors made Kanan swallow hard.

"How Elite?" He asked

"They are like Chief Woton, Sorcerers who’ve trained in combat. Very dangerous. You see the hulking figure towering over the other five?"

"Yeah."

"That’s Bone. He’s the strongest. He could go toe to toe with Chief Woton and win. He was going to be the next chief as well."

Kanan had already expected that there would be some strong warriors mixed in, though he had hoped they would have been burned during the second phase of his plan. It looked as if luck wasn’t on his side at the moment.

"Can you take him?" He asked Telah.

"No, but I can hold him back from advancing if he decides to."

"Then I’ll give you a teammate. Selin!"

From wherever Selin was on the battlefield, she made her way to Kanan within a few moments, heeding the call of her Shaman.

"You called?"

"You see that big guy over there?"

"Hmm? Yeah? Why?"

"Think you can take him?"

"Pfft, please. He doesn’t look that tough." Selin punched her palm, and flames jutted into the air

"Do not take him lightly. He’s more powerful than Tagah." Telah warned

"All the more reason for me to fuck him up!"

"Great." Kanan smiled. "You two will take him on."
