Vampire Progenitor System

Chapter 377: Aftermath Bodies

The return to Vampire Realm was anything but quiet.

Word of the teams arrival filtered through the outer lattices before the group had fully crossed the last barrier. Lucian was already on the observation platform with full medical and containment detail when Lucifer’s group landed in a uneven line of blood, smoke, and borrowed strength. Damaris hung heavily against Lucifer’s side. Lilith was only upright due to the fact that Nyx’s darkness was still bracing her. The rest of the breach team looked as if they had crawled from a war rather than a successful mission.

Lucian was already issuing orders after one look at them. "Get the freed progenitors to the deep recovery halls. Anita first among the wounded. Rhazor next. No public reports until we know what followed you home."

Aeloria dismounted from the path with the residual star fire still flickering weakly around her wrists. "The star fire seals held. The enclave wall closed behind us. We were not pursued in force. That may not last."

Nyx released Lilith into the waiting attendants care with clear reluctance. "They will come. Partial rescue is not the type of wound the being ignores."

Lucifer had not released Damaris until the recovery hall doors were open and the stabilizers ready. Even then his father caught his wrist with surprising strength for a body that had been drained for so long.

"You cut us free," Damaris said, voice rough. "Do not mistake that for the end of the work. The orb was already close. It will not stop because two feeds went quiet."

"I know," Lucifer replied.

Lilith, seated on the next recovery platform watched him with dark exhausted eyes. "You look like him when he was younger and just as unwilling to rest after a hard win. Go deal with your living. We will still be here when the next decision is required."

The reunion was real. It was also incomplete. There was no room for long explanations or soft recovery. The harvest was still climbing somewhere beyond the sealed dark and everyone in the hall could feel the unfinished shape their actions had carved.

Night settled over the Origin Palace harder than usual.

The public halls remained under heightened alert. The recovery wings remained sealed and guarded. Lucifer finished off the first round of reports with Lucian checked the condition of the breach team and then allowed himself to wander the quieter upper corridors to the private chamber he knew would not be empty.

Vina, Ella, and Luna were waiting.

They clearly had gotten enough of the report to understand the cost. Relief and anger were both sitting in equal measure in the room. Vina stood near the window with arms folded tight. Ella paced once before coming to a halt. Luna was seated on the edge of the bed, hands clasped hard enough that her knuckles were showing white.

Ella spoke first. "You came back. That is the only reason this conversation is happening inside this room instead of a war council."

Vina’s dark eyes swept over the residual blood still marking his collar and the exhaustion under his control. "You also came back carrying more weight than you left with. We felt the realm shift when your parents crossed the barrier. We also felt how close the whole operation came to not returning at all."

Luna’s voice was quieter but did not shake. "We are glad you are alive. We are not calm. Those two things can exist at the same time."

Lucifer closed the door behind him and leaned back against it for a moment, letting the sealed quiet of the chamber cut away the rest of the palace. The fight, the chamber, the orb, the chains, the retreat all still sat in his body like unspent violence. He only had to look at the three of them to made the pressure sharpen.

"I am not calm either. I got two of them out. I left the rest in that circle. The orb is still rising. Every part of me that is not busy planning the next cut is still in that chamber."

Vina crossed the room first. There was no hesitation and no check for permission. She got to him, fisted a hand in the front of his coat, and kissed him hard enough to bruise. The contact was rough and immediate, her fear that she hadn’t voiced aloud and her relief that she refused to dress up as softness.

Ella joined a breath later, mouth at the side of his throat, teeth scraping lightly over residual tension. "Then stop standing there like the war is the only thing allowed to touch you tonight. You came back. Act like a man who came back."

Luna rose and pressed in at his other side, hands already working at the fastenings of his coat and the layers beneath. "We can be careful with the wounded later. Right now I want proof that you are here in more than name."

The clothes came away without ceremony. There was little tenderness in the way they pulled him towards the bed and he gave them none in return. The night after the first crossing had been a claim. This was something rawer. Survival still burning under the skin.

Vina pushed him down and straddled his hips before anyone else could stake their claim. She sank onto him in one hard motion, breath breaking on a sound that was half relief and half demand. Ella kissed him through it then moved to Vina’s front, mouth on her breasts, hands steadying her waist as she began to ride him with short, urgent strokes. Luna settled behind Vina, fingers sliding down between their bodies to work Vina’s clit in time with the movement, her other hand braced on Lucifer’s thigh.

"Harder," Vina got out. "I do not want careful. I want to feel that you made it back."

Lucifer gripped her hips and drove up into her with exactly that intent. The pace stayed rough. The room filled with the sound of skin, breath and the low broken noises Vina could no longer keep behind her teeth. When she came it was sudden and sharp, her body locking around him while Ella held her upright and Luna worked her through the last of it.

They did not stop to recover.

Ella took Vina’s place with the same urgency, guiding him into her and setting a deep, demanding rhythm that left no room for distance. Vina, still shaking put her mouth on Ella and licked her through every thrust until Ella cursed and came with her forehead pressed to Vina’s shoulder. Luna went last, quieter in sound but no less intense, pulling Lucifer over her and wrapping both legs around him as he buried himself deep. Vina and Ella stayed close with hands and mouths on both of them, until Luna’s climax pulled Lucifer over the edge with her and he finally spilled hard into the heat of her body.

Afterward they lay in a tangled, breathing heap under the red wash of the twin moons through the window. No one reached for speeches. The war was still outside the door. The unfinished harvest still sat in all of their futures. For a short stretch of night though, the bodies in the bed were present, alive and done pretending that survival had left them gentle.

Lucifer stared at the ceiling, Vina against one side, Ella against the other and Luna’s hand still resting over his heart.

The partial victory had brought his parents home.

It had also made the next cut inevitable.

And the night like the war, was not finished being honest about what it cost.
