Vampire Progenitor System
Chapter 348: Open Seals
Aeloria stood on the inner edge of the starfire realm, and for a long moment, she simply looked out over the outer lattices before she spoke.
"The staged readiness window has concluded. The next external pressure will not arrive the form of another probe. If we wait for it to land, we lose the choice of timing."
Nyx’s living darkness moved once. "Then stop waiting."
Lucifer did not require a lengthy discussion. The foundation jump had settled enough for controlled movement. The Divine Blood Core turned over with dense, steady weight. Residual power still bled from the forced absorption prior, but it no longer threatened to rip the structure apart. He looked between the two women and simply gave a single nod.
Aeloria raised both hands. Starfire and conceptual locks that had sealed the realm for years unraveled in careful succession. Layers peeled back. False trails were laid bare. The final outer seam - same one that had fractured under prior testing - opened along a controlled corridor rather than a rupture.
Cold void air brushed against the edge of the platform for the first time in years.
Lucifer stepped through.
The sensation of unrestricted space was immediate. There was no longer a contained starfire pressure to hold off against. There was no longer a training environment that had to so meticulously controlled. The broader sealed universe stretched out in all directions, thick with lingering signatures, distant realm boundaries, and the scars of recent violence. Almost immediately, he picked up on Selene’s trail - fresh, sharply defined, already pushing out toward a new target.
Nyx and Aeloria exited after him. Behind them, the starfire realm shut itself down once more, now serving as a fallback position, rather than a cage.
"You have the foundation," Aeloria said. "You do not yet have full integration or experience against true Loom-grade force. Do not confuse the two."
Lucifer’s crimson eyes followed the trail of Selene’s signature. "I know the difference. I’m still going."
Nyx’s lips curved into a slight smile. "Good. Try not to die before the real work starts."
They moved.
Selene crossed the outer boundary of the Dragon Realm beneath a shallow, self-made eclipse that erased her approach signature until the last possible moment. White-fire lines traced the shape of her starlight form. The new fused core rested quiet and ready in her chest. The werewolf ranges had demonstrated the method already. Isolate a new seat, strike before external support could organize, remove or cripple the holder before the board could react.
A new vessel was now seated upon the Dragon seat. The lingering heat signature was unmistakable, and still carried the instability of a recent awakening, but it rang out stronger and more coherent than Ken’s had at the moment of her previous attack. The realm itself was different as well, with older territorial instincts at play, layered volcanic defenses, and a sense of preparedness that suggested the new progenitor had not been idle since the werewolf massacre.
Selene ignored the eclipse occurring at the edge of the primary volcanic caldera.
The alarms did not sound out in the typical fashion. Instead, the mountain responded. Heat spikes shot upwards. Stone shifted. Winged figures rose from the high perches positioned along the crater walls. The new Dragon Progenitor was already arranged on a broad platform of black basalt at the heart of the caldera, scaled arms folded across its chest, its eyes burning with tightly controlled fire. Several high-ranking dragonkin kept their formations around the platform in a careful line. There was no confusion to be seen. There was no delayed reaction.
They had prepared.
Selene hovered in the superheated air above the caldera and took a moment to assess the layout presented to her. The arrangement was clearly intentional. Kill zones, overlapping fields of fire, and an obvious central defender that would not be found mid-shift or mid-command, but rather locked in a steady stance of defense. The werewolf stronghold was turned into a slaughter because it was caught off-guard and forced into disorganization. This situation was none of those things.
The new Dragon Progenitor was the first to speak, its voice easy to hear over the shimmer of heat. "You’re the one who hit the wolf ranges."
"Yes," Selene responded.
"You won’t be leaving this place the same person you arrived as."
Selene’s burning white eyes narrowed just a fraction. The fused core gave a single pulse. Erasure and termination settled in layers along her arms as she prepared in silence. She had come to complete a clean and decisive removal. What greeted her below was a defensive line purpose-built in order to deny her that option.
She let the last remnants of the stealth she had used to arrive dissipate, allowing her full pressure to settle over the caldera.
The dragonkin moved to their final positions. The scales of the new progenitor gleamed with greater brightness as the heat climbed. The mountain itself seemed to lean inward, as if drawn toward the clash that was about to take place.
Selene lowered herself by another fraction, stopping just beyond the reach of an immediate strike.
"Then prove it," she said.
The Dragon Realm held its breath in anticipation. The defenders who had prepared did not fall out of formation. The new progenitor did not strike first.
The battle had not yet begun.
It was only a matter of heartbeats before it would start.
Elsewhere
In the cold light of the enclave the orb pulsed steadily, drawing power from the chained authorities of the old Progenitors. The tall figure clad in layers of white and pale gold stood before the sphere, one hand still resting against its surface as the information from the sealed outside poured in.
The new signature stabbed at the entity’s perceptions, clear as a blade.
Dense with coherence, true Divine at a higher baseline than the last probe, no longer dulled by Aeloria’s private sigils. The hybrid had stopped containing himself.
The shifting planes of the being’s face stilled, its geometry shifting back and forth as it calculated a new set of parameters
"So," it murmured to the orb and the other silent figures waiting beyond its reach, their gazes fixed on the reading. "The late seed has opened itself to the Loom, sooner than anticipated."
It withdrew its hand from the sphere’s surface, and it rippled once in answer to the gesture, as if acknowledging the shift in focus
"Mother was right to fear fruit that would contend with the Loom’s fruitfulness. It appears this one has begun to rival it in turn. See to the siphon, and let it run uninterrupted. Should your charge’s course prove true, his influence may well prove pertinent to Father’s return long before the predicted time-frame."
It tilted its head, as if seeing beyond the barriers to some distance away, where the new aura was waiting
"Keep watch, but do not interfere. The garden must see to its own thinning before we claim its yield."
The cold light of the enclave did not change, the chains did not break, and the old Progenitors continued to feed the core.
Beyond the barriers Lucifer’s unchained presence carved its way through the sealed space for the first time in years, and the entity watching the last generation’s end simply made a small adjustment to its calculations
