Urban's Fury: The War Dragon God
Chapter 1948 - 1947: Beast Tide
Chapter 1948: Chapter 1947: Beast Tide
The night was like water.
With Shi Xing’s band of dog-headed scouts leading the way, the journey was much smoother than expected. Just before dawn, the scouts dispatched by Shi Xing returned.
After hearing the intelligence from the scouts, Shi Xing turned and approached Li Feng.
"Master, the scouts have located the camp, it’s fifty miles ahead near a small hill. The defenders here are quite mixed, but the leader is from the Sharp Tooth Tribe of Chaotic Blade Mountain, a conceited werewolf who seems to have been sent here due to some wrongdoing."
"Hmm, proceed as planned. I will wait for them here."
"Yes, Master. Shi Xing will not disappoint." With that, Shi Xing led fewer than a hundred dog-headed warriors in a frantic rush toward the direction of the camp.
Watching Shi Xing depart, Ouyang Qiuhai turned to Li Feng: "You’re sending all these kobolds out; aren’t you afraid they’ll turn against us and lead a large number of demon soldiers back to surround us?"
Li Feng didn’t answer Ouyang Qiuhai. Instead, he turned to Sikong Yu: "Senior Bi Fang, your movements are stealthy. Would you mind going to monitor them? If the opponent sends out fewer than a thousand people, there’s no rush to return. But if more than three thousand teams are dispatched, please return quickly and inform me."
Bi Fang snorted: "You’re really quite unpolite."
Despite the dissatisfaction written on his face, Bi Fang did not refuse. After all, under the eaves, one must bow their head, and his return to normalcy depended on this young man.
Bi Fang immediately flew up, blending into the night.
"Hmm, I thought you weren’t worried. Turns out you’re not that confident either!" Ouyang Qiuhai smirked.
"Trust the suspicious, suspect those you trust. I naturally trust Shi Xing, but plans can never keep up with change. I’m just taking precautions, something you wouldn’t understand."
"Ha, I don’t understand."
Clearly underestimating Ouyang Qiuhai’s intelligence left her displeased, but Sikong Yu stopped her before she could explode.
"At a distance of fifty miles, if we use the Horned Rhinoceroses, it would be too noisy. Besides, here on the Barbaric Grassland, our previous actions have all been surprise attacks on camps, catching the enemy off guard. If encountered on the grassland, even if we annihilate the enemy, there might still be survivors."
"Lan, you will be responsible for blocking the front. You and I will handle encircling the left and right fleeing demons, and as for the back, Shi Xing’s men will take care of it."
"Although this is a chance encounter, it is also a surprise attack. Now, everyone should dig pits deep enough to contain a person on site and hide inside. Additionally, smear some Horned Rhinoceros dung on yourself to cover your scent."
Li Feng directly issued the order.
"What did you say, smear dung? I won’t do it, even if you kill me."
Ouyang Qiuhai protested directly, refusing to accept such a ridiculous demand.
"You brought her, you handle it."
Li Feng couldn’t be bothered to argue. If it wasn’t for her father being Ouyang Tianshu, the Elder of Nine Layers Mountain, he wouldn’t have given her any face in the first place.
In the previous two battles, Li Feng led his trusted aides to sweep over two Demon Clan camps. Now, the Personal Guard Camp followed Li Feng’s orders without any hesitation, as victory without casualties was more persuasive than any verbal promise.
As the saying goes, "A bear of a soldier makes a bear of a general too." However, with their camp master being infallible and cunning, handling the demon clan with ease, the warriors were naturally full of confidence.
While Li Feng traveled through the night to lay an ambush outside the next camp, at the beginning of this night, as the evening of the previous day...
Two units, each consisting of a thousand troops, successively arrived at the first camp Li Feng had overturned.
"Clan Leader, the camp ahead seems to be still smoking, and it appears to have been attacked."
This unit of one thousand was not from the demon clan’s cannon fodder but originated from the Heiyan Clan of the Wolf Clan’s six major tribes of Chaotic Blade Mountain. Leading them was Yan Lie, a heir of the Heiyan Clan.
"Hmm, order to surround the camp."
"Yes."
This entire unit of the Wolf Clan was cavalry, mounted on Rock Wolves raised by the Heiyan Clan, a type of large Fierce Beast. However, the Wolf Riders were light cavalry, not heavily armored, and clad in leather armor, they moved like the wind, swiftly splitting into two groups to surround the camp from the left and right as commanded.
When Yan Lie rode up to the camp on his mount, all he could see were ruins and drifting smoke.
Very soon, the Wolf Riders returned with several Pig-head Demons in front of Yan Lie.
"What’s going on? Did you destroy this camp?"
Yan Lie looked down at the Pig-head Demons. They weren’t as defiant, quickly shaking their large heads and ears.
"Dear Wolf Clan noble, we just arrived here less than an hour ago, and this place was already like this. There are no demon survivors in the camp, only some scraps. Furthermore, all the tents, including the grain and forage stored here, were burned."
"We don’t carry much grain, so I’m only able to have my men scavenge in the camp to see if anything remains."
"My words are absolutely true, with no concealment whatsoever."
Yan Lie ignored their chatter, turning to his right-hand man, a demon from the Bei Clan, which relied on the Wolf Clan and produced many wise individuals, serving as think tanks for the Wolf Clan.
"I’ve already scouted this camp. It doesn’t look like the work of Pig-head Demons. Judging by the destruction, it happened at least yesterday, and only some charred bones were found inside."
"From the remains, it seems there was a battle, but the outcome was one-sided. Both the stationed demons and the garrisoned unit seem to have met with misfortune."
Yan Lie frowned deeply, questioning the Bei Clan think tank: "Who would dare attack our stationed camp in the demon country’s Barbaric heartland?"
The Bei Clan think tank pondered for a moment and then gazed out: "Your Highness, before, on the road, we encountered spiritual beasts fleeing from the Molten Lava Volcano’s eruption, which might have caused a beast tide."
"After all, this camp is near Half Border Mountain, where a breach might exist."
"Ah, a beast tide attack."
"Indeed, from the camp’s condition, aside from a beast tide, I can’t think of anything else that could flatten this camp, and no demons inside survived."
Yan Lie creased his brows: "You must know that the camp’s destruction is significant and should not be assumed lightly. We need to investigate thoroughly."
"Your Highness, perhaps we should dispatch people to scout the forest and search the vicinity within dozens of miles to see if there are any survivors."
"Yes, let’s do that."
