Chapter 456: What Exactly Do You Want?
“Are you sure you want to do this?” Wang Chenning’s face instantly went cold.
“You *have* to spend time with me today, no matter what!” Wang Chenning’s glare made Yang Xiaofu lose some of her bluster, but she didn’t back down. “When people get angry, they can’t control their emotions. It’s perfectly normal to do something crazy!”
“Then go ahead and try,” Wang Chenning said, continuing to walk away.
“Brother Ning, I don’t feel well at all. It’s been so long since you’ve given me acupuncture!” Ignoring the stares of passersby, Yang Xiaofu clung to Wang Chenning’s arm and whined, “I don’t care, you have to spend the evening with me tonight!”
“Let go!” Wang Chenning shook his arm free, but he didn’t want her clinging to him like a burr. “Fine, fine. After my clinic hours this afternoon, I’ll treat you to dinner and give you an acupuncture session.”
“Now that’s more like it!” Yang Xiaofu’s pout immediately turned into a grin.
That afternoon, she skipped her classes. Instead, after pestering Wang Chenning for what felt like half the day, she finally got his permission to join him in the consultation room as an intern.
Yang Xiaofu was a very fast typist, so she volunteered to enter the electronic medical records for Wang Chenning.
Wang Chenning had brought Chang Qingfeng with him to the clinic that day. He’d originally planned to have Chang Qingfeng type up patient records, but with Yang Xiaofu there, Chang Qingfeng was free to help with other tasks.
Chang Qingfeng was already used to Wang Chenning’s way with women. He wouldn’t have been surprised if even more women suddenly appeared at his side. ℯ
He knew who Yang Xiaofu was, and he knew why she was clinging to Wang Chenning, but he was tactful enough not to say anything.
During the consultations, he simply treated Yang Xiaofu as a data entry clerk for the patient records.
Yang Xiaofu was quite pleased that both Wang Chenning and Chang Qingfeng had accepted her as an “outsider.”
Still, she didn’t dare to be the least bit careless and took her work very seriously.
Her typing was fast and she was a quick study, which significantly sped up Wang Chenning’s consultations. As a result, she even earned a few words of praise from him.
Seeing how elated Yang Xiaofu was after receiving praise from Wang Chenning, Chang Qingfeng couldn’t help but sigh. ‘Even the most outstanding women can become hopelessly infatuated. When they’re love-struck like that, their IQ really takes a nosedive.’
Chang Qingfeng didn’t really understand why women like Yang Xiaofei, Yang Xiaofu, Zhao Xiao’an—and even his fellow disciples Wu Jingyi, Zhang Manxin, and Lin Qingyan—were so infatuated with Wang Chenning. He was sure they all knew he was a womanizer who subscribed to a policy of “no rejection, no initiative, and no responsibility” when it came to women. Why were they still so obsessed with him?
‘Is it just because they can’t accept defeat?’
‘Or maybe they want something from him that no one else can provide?’
‘That might be the only explanation.’
Chang Qingfeng knew that some of the things Wang Chenning could offer were indeed things no one else could.
Besides, the man had a brilliant mind for business. Chang Qingfeng had already received clear instructions from his family to integrate the entire Chang family into Wang Chenning’s commercial empire. He hadn’t mentioned it to Wang Chenning yet, though. He was waiting for the right opening, knowing the best approach was to perform well in every respect, earn Wang Chenning’s approval, and then make his request directly.
That’s why he had been on his best behavior lately, tackling every task with enthusiasm and without a single complaint.
Wang Chenning was quite satisfied with Chang Qingfeng’s performance as well. In fact, it was only because Chang Qingfeng was his assistant for the day that he’d allowed Yang Xiaofu to tag along.
He wouldn’t have trusted anyone else not to go blabbing about it and cause trouble.
Thanks to Yang Xiaofu’s help, Wang Chenning was able to squeeze in one more patient, much to the lucky person’s ecstatic delight.
“I helped you out today, so you have to treat me to dinner, right?” Yang Xiaofu asked Wang Chenning with a wide grin as they were packing up after the last patient. “I’ve been working hard all afternoon. I’m exhausted! You have to reward me properly!”
“No problem!” Wang Chenning said, turning to Chang Qingfeng, who was also packing up. “Why don’t you join us for dinner?”
“No, no, I can’t. I have other plans!” Chang Qingfeng politely declined. “Master, you should just take Miss Yang. She worked very hard today!”
“All right, then.” Wang Chenning didn’t press the issue and let Chang Qingfeng head out first.
“You handled that well,” Yang Xiaofu texted Chang Qingfeng, thanking him.
“Then please put in a good word for me!” Chang Qingfeng texted back. “The task of revitalizing the Chang family rests on my shoulders. I have to earn Master’s approval to achieve this grand ambition!”
Seeing how perceptive Chang Qingfeng was, Yang Xiaofu replied, “If you help me, I’ll help you.”
Chang Qingfeng was overjoyed. “When are you free, Miss Yang? Let me treat you to tea so we can have a proper chat!”
Yang Xiaofu didn’t refuse.
She quickly made good on her promise to Chang Qingfeng. “Brother Ning, I think that male disciple of yours is pretty great. He might have been rude to you before, but he’s completely won over now. Plus, I think he’s quite sharp and very mature!”
“What, you’ve taken a liking to him?”
“As if!” Yang Xiaofu practically jumped to her feet. “I just think Chang Qingfeng is definitely qualified to be your lead disciple. His skills are good, he’s capable, and he’s good at reading people. He’ll definitely be a great assistant to you in the future! The Chang family isn’t a major clan, but they’re well-off. If you give them a little help, their assets could multiply, and they’d become powerful supporters for you!”
Wang Chenning gave Yang Xiaofu an odd look but didn’t comment.
Seeing that Wang Chenning wasn’t angry, Yang Xiaofu grew bolder. “Brother Ning, you’ve taken on so many students; there’s bound to be a mixed bag. I think I’m a pretty good judge of character. How about I spend more time with them and help you figure out what they’re really like?”
Wang Chenning’s brow furrowed. “What exactly are you trying to do?”
