Chapter 990: Chapter 75: Divine Emperor’s Daughter? (12 Updates)
Mu Qingge was not too eager to enter Wuhua Palace prematurely.
Sometimes, being too eager can make people suspect ulterior motives. Instead of arousing suspicion, it would be better to stay in Wuhua City, wander around leisurely, and gather information.
On the second day of entering Wuhua City, Mu Qingge did not engage in cultivation but instead wandered around the market with Yin Chen, leaving the Divine Demon Puppet to guard the courtyard gate.
The Divine Sense within the Divine Demon Puppet was hers, effectively making it her avatar. If she wanted, she could perceive everything happening through its five senses.
"This place where the Divine reside seems no different from where mortals live." Yin Chen had already explored some places yesterday, and now accompanied Mu Qingge, providing conversation.
Mu Qingge nodded slightly, "Yes, mortals need food, clothing, shelter, and transportation, just as the Divine do. However, the difference is that there are many substitutes for these necessities in the Divine realm."
Yin Chen deeply understood the implication of Mu Qingge’s words.
"Let’s find someplace to sit." Mu Qingge said casually.
Yin Chen nodded and led her to Immortal Dew Pavilion, a place he passed by yesterday. The Immortal Dew Pavilion was essentially similar to a teahouse in mortal lands.
The difference was that mortals drink tea, while Immortal Dew Pavilion offers Immortal Dew that nourishes Divine Power.
Mu Qingge had seldom visited such cities over the years, even the Lower City of the Huan Yue Domain—she had barely been there two or three times. Entering the Immortal Dew Pavilion with Yin Chen, a Divine attendant promptly greeted them.
"Please, come inside." He showed a warm smile.
Mu Qingge’s eyes surveyed the surroundings of Immortal Dew Pavilion, while Yin Chen took out a small piece of Divine Jade and instructed, "Arrange a refined, quiet place free from disturbance."
The attendant showed an understanding smile, nodded, and led the two upstairs.
Along the way, Mu Qingge gradually withdrew her gaze. Immortal Dew Pavilion was truly no different from a teahouse; perhaps it was due to being bathed in Dao Light, allowing her to transform into myriad forms and experience life’s sundry sensations. She now felt her perception had become much more placid; even novel things hardly piqued her curiosity.
At this moment, unbeknownst to her, the feeling she had was actually touching the edge of the source of the Dao.
The Dao gives birth to all things, unifying them as one.
No matter how many laws or principles there are in the world, when simplified, only the singular truth manifests.
Seeing through appearances to understand essence naturally allows one to be composed and not swayed by external matters.
The attendant led them to a secluded upstairs compartment. It faced the inner passage, allowing one to view the elegant performance in the courtyard as well as maintain privacy.
The walls were made of special wood with excellent soundproofing; they could converse inside without worrying about being overheard or about being disturbed by talking from other compartments.
"Are you satisfied with this place?" The attendant offered a flattering smile.
Yin Chen looked at Mu Qingge, who was not particular and simply scanned around before nodding.
With her approval, Yin Chen had no further comments.
He instructed the attendant to bring Immortal Dew and some Spirit Fruit.
After the attendant left, Mu Qingge and Yin Chen sat opposite each other by the railing. Below, on the stage in the courtyard, a woman with delicate features and a graceful figure was seated, playing the zither.
The music was very beautiful; listening quietly seemed to have the miraculous effect of clearing away distractions and purifying the soul.
When the Immortal Dew and Spirit Fruit were served, Mu Qingge returned to her senses from the melody. She asked the Divine who served them, "The melody I heard is quite exceptional; I presume the zither player is not an ordinary person?"
The Divine showed a smile and nodded, "This guest has keen insight, discerning the intricacies from the sound. Frankly, the lady playing the zither is the close maid of our Divine Emperor’s Princess. The melody is composed by the Princess herself. It’s said to incorporate a sound technique from Wuhua Palace, the Heart Purifying Mantra. This technique resists the heart demon, calms the mind, keeps one’s clarity, and is very formidable." ℯℯ𝑙.
’Heart Purifying Mantra?’ Mu Qingge squinted her eyes. Before coming, Si Mo had provided intelligence that included details of the Heart Purifying Mantra. It was indeed a unique cultivation technique of the Wuhua Domain.
However, the technique is defensive, without offensive capabilities—it guards one’s heart. Against illusions or forbidden techniques, or during cultivation, it effectively protects from the intrusion of heart demons.
Yet, she was more intrigued by the other detail the Divine mentioned. The woman playing the zither was actually part of the Divine Emperor Palace of Wuhua Domain, and furthermore, the Princess’s maid.
Mu Qingge collected her thoughts and gave a faint smile to the Divine, "Since you are the maid of Princess Chu Nian, why are you playing the zither here?"
"So the guest knows our Princess Chu Nian of the Wuhua Domain?" The Divine smiled. "What the guest might not know is that Princess Chu Nian is affable and often visits Wuhua City. She composed this piece, wishing to benefit everyone, but only those of the Wuhua Domain can play it. Thus, every time she comes to Wuhua City, she has her maid perform it as a gift to those destined."
"So you’re saying that Princess Chu Nian is currently in Wuhua City?" Mu Qingge raised her eyebrows, catching the key point.
The Divine’s eyes flickered obscurely and he revealed a smile, nodding slightly.
Mu Qingge curved her lips slightly and placed a small piece of Divine Jade in front of him, saying, "Thank you for your trouble. You may leave now."
The Divine wasn’t shy, took the Divine Jade, and bowed slightly before retreating.
After he left, Yin Chen looked at Mu Qingge.
Mu Qingge smiled with a hint of playfulness and said lightly, "According to rumors, five thousand years ago, the Wuhua God Emperor accidentally had a daughter. This daughter has a mysterious origin, brought back by the Wuhua God Emperor as an infant. Some say she is a child from a secret affair of the Wuhua God Emperor, while others say she has no blood relation to him but is a child he took in out of compassion. Regardless of the rumors, this Princess Chu Nian grew up in the Wuhua Palace with astonishing talent, breathtaking beauty, and a gentle demeanor that endeared her to everyone in the Wuhua Domain. The Wuhua God Emperor also doted on her greatly, always presenting himself as a loving father."
"Qingge, do you suspect there’s something suspicious?" Yin Chen’s blood-red eyes flashed slightly.
Given his understanding of Mu Qingge, she would never mention Princess Chu Nian’s origins without reason.
Mu Qingge continued, "Whether there are doubts or not, I can’t be sure for now. However, this Wuhua God Emperor was involved in the affairs of the Mu Clan back then, and according to the intelligence gathered from the Demon Clan, he is by no means a benevolent person and wouldn’t extend his benevolence without a reason. This Princess Chu Nian may either truly be his bloodline or was raised with some purpose. If it’s the former, that’s fine, but if it’s the latter, it’s quite curious. What kind of reason, what kind of purpose, would lead the Wuhua God Emperor to adopt Princess Chu Nian?"
"This..." Yin Chen was at a loss for words.
Even as a member of the highly intelligent Fox Clan, he sometimes couldn’t keep up with Mu Qingge’s thinking.
At this moment, he was even pondering, they were here for clues about the Divine Strategy Lower Volume, so why were they worrying about a princess of unknown origin?
"If I’m not mistaken, this Princess Chu Nian is currently inside the Immortal Dew Pavilion." Mu Qingge narrowed her eyes slightly, recalling the Divine’s flickering gaze while speaking, her tone very certain. "If we could meet with this princess and chat a bit, we might glean some information about the Wuhua Palace and, if we’re lucky, even find clues to the Divine Strategy Lower Volume."
Yin Chen raised his eyes and finally understood that this was Mu Qingge’s true intention.
Mu Qingge said playfully, "As a beloved princess, she ought to know things that others don’t."
"Though it’s true, how do we get her to talk?" Yin Chen nodded. "Since she could compose this piece, it means she’s quite skilled in the Heart Purifying Mantra. I fear my Illusion Technique might not be very effective on her, and using it rashly might backfire. Asking Mu Qingge to use the Soul Capturing Technique is out of the question. With the God Emperor’s level of cultivation, it’s impossible not to notice if his daughter’s memories were invaded."
"There’s no need to be so concerned; this is merely an opportunity for us to make contact and doesn’t necessarily mean we have to do that." Mu Qingge said with a light smile.
Yin Chen understood Mu Qingge’s intention and nodded.
Just then, two more individuals arrived outside the Immortal Dew Pavilion. They were none other than Mu Tianyin and Mu Lin.
Standing outside the Immortal Dew Pavilion, Mu Tianyin asked Mu Lin, "Are you sure that the Princess Chu Nian is here?"
Mu Lin focused and nodded, replying in a low voice, "I’ve made inquiries from various sources. Every time Princess Chu Nian visits Wuhua City, she sits here for half a day, leaving only after her maid finishes playing the zither."
Mu Tianyin’s eyes flickered for a moment, then he said to Mu Lin, "In that case, let’s go in."
"Young Master, are we truly going to do this?" Mu Lin couldn’t help but ask.
This caused Mu Tianyin, who had just stepped forward, to slowly draw back his foot, turning to look at Mu Lin. In a cold voice, he said, "Are you questioning my decision? Or do you have a better plan than me, the Young Master?"
Mu Lin was so frightened by his gaze that he took two steps back, recalling the massacre from the day before. The Young Master in front of him appeared utterly unfamiliar.
"I wouldn’t dare!" Mu Lin lowered his eyes, suppressing his emotions and lowering his head further.
Mu Tianyin snorted coldly and said to him, "If you don’t dare, then stop wasting time. Do as I say, and if there’s any mistake, I’ll hold you accountable."
Mu Lin felt like his heart was burning, stifled and uncomfortable, yet he had no choice but to submit.
After disciplining Mu Lin, Mu Tianyin coldly withdrew his gaze and stepped forward towards the Immortal Dew Pavilion. And Mu Lin, after calming his emotions, quickly followed.
