Chapter 1024: Chapter 623: Garrison and Expedition, Power Surges! (Part 2)
..........
Washing Horse City is the name of a small fortress.
It is located about one hundred kilometers west of Hell Pit Fortress, roughly a day’s march away.
If using light cavalry to rush, it can be reached in half a day.
Along a remote dirt and rock road, Fang Zhou’s Calamity Special Operations Team is heading to this fortress.
Receiving orders from the Dawn Legion staff headquarters, the Special Operations Team now needs to station at Washing Horse City, constantly keeping surveillance on the Demon Army’s movements previously retreating from Hell Pit Fortress.
Besides the army mage and supply vehicles, the two thousand warriors are all on foot. Even Fang Zhou doesn’t ride but has a carriage specially prepared for him.
Originally, the military intended to allocate Fang Zhou a warhorse, but due to Tiamat sticking too close, Fang Zhou couldn’t get near any horse.
If it weren’t for Major General Guan Huchi providing him with a special pack of spices that slightly masks the scent of the young dragon, Fang Zhou probably wouldn’t even have a carriage to ride, having to walk alongside the soldiers.
All of the Calamity Special Operations Team warriors are wearing high-quality armor snatched by Leng Feng, the entire team clad in iron armor, displaying immense power.
"Captain, the scout team reports that a small unit of Demon Descendants is currently defending Washing Horse City!"
As they were about to reach the fortress, Leng Feng suddenly received a report from his subordinates and quickly relayed it to Fang Zhou.
"Oh?" Fang Zhou lifted the carriage curtain, showing interest.
"How many are there?"
"Around a hundred, most with Black Iron strength."
"Can you confirm their identity?"
"Not yet, but they don’t seem to be elite Demon Soldiers."
"Alright, order Zhuo Yue to capture them all, don’t let anyone escape.
Also, have the rest of the unit speed up the march, get to the fortress as soon as possible!"
"Yes, Captain!"
When Fang Zhou and his team arrived at the fortress, the battle was already over.
Dozens of Demon Soldiers were disarmed by Zhuo Yue’s squad, lying on the ground with their hands clasped behind their heads, surrounded by fifty or sixty headless bodies.
"Captain, the enemies have all been subdued, those who resisted have been executed on-site.
Please decide how to proceed!"
Zhuo Yue approached to report as Fang Zhou walked over.
"Any casualties among our soldiers?"
"No deaths, but a few were slightly injured while surrounding the enemy."
"Hmm, call the priest to treat them.
What’s the situation here?"
"Apart from these captives, no other enemies have been found for now.
The specifics need further investigation."
"Leng Feng, organize the personnel to properly clean this fortress, ensure nothing left by the enemy remains.
Zhuo Yue, these Demon Prisoners are in your hands.
Find out their identities and mainly see if they have any companions nearby.
And, you don’t need that many, one or two useful ones will do."
"Alright, Captain!" Leng Feng and Zhuo Yue each accepted their orders and left.
Fang Zhou stood in place and took a look around, discovering that Washing Horse City was just a small fortress similar to the Tiger Suppression Fortress where he previously stationed at the Beast Fighting City battleground.
With prior experience, Fang Zhou was naturally confident this time.
After defeating over a hundred Demon Soldiers originally stationed in this small fortress, the Calamity Special Operations Team set up camp outside Washing Horse City.
Through Zhuo Yue’s interrogation, Fang Zhou obtained the information he wished to know.
To Fang Zhou’s surprise, the captured dozens of Demon Soldiers today weren’t elite scouts from the Calamity Sun Demon Country, but rather fleeing soldiers from Hell Pit Fortress when it was breached last time.
This group of a little over a hundred Demon Soldiers had nowhere to go at the time, hiding in the mountains west of the fortress.
Due to the Dawn Legion’s lockdown, unable to return to the army and lacking supplies, they had no choice but to become bandits, wandering and hunting for survival.
Usually, they feared becoming too conspicuous, generally sending out groups of just over a dozen, mistaken by the Dawn Legion scouts as scouting forces from the Calamity Sun Demon Country.
This time, due to severe food shortages, they all mobilized for the first time, yet coincidently caught by Fang Zhou’s team.
Upon learning this, Fang Zhou found it amusing.
Fortunately, he had undertaken a task to establish an outpost for the legion.
Otherwise, sending out over a thousand from the Calamity Special Operations Team for the first time, yet only catching a few petty thieves, he would surely be laughed at by Major General Guan Huchi and other officers.
After verifying there were no further concerns, Fang Zhou led the Calamity Special Operations Team to fully establish a lookout post at Washing Horse City.
Coincidentally, during this time, the Blood Spirit Lord Clone and the Undead Mage’s true form were busy constructing various defensive structures.
Through practice, Fang Zhou became familiar with the various defensive structures within the Mythical World and Blood War Furnace, even starting to innovate and integrate.
......
The leisurely days quickly came to an end.
The Blood Spirit Lord clone in Tusk City finally received a battle mission.
A command from the Full Moon Lord of Tusk City was conveyed to the Hecarim camp, stirring the place.
A multitude of Zombies emerged from various barracks and gathered in the vast empty space in the camp center.
Besides Zombies, Fang Zhou also observed numerous Skeleton Warriors, Ghosts, Hate Samurais, and Ghouls.
These massive numbers of Undead formed several small military formations, with most being the Bronze Tier Advanced Zombies.
These Zombie infantry wielded blade shield spears or crossbows.
Vampires stood at one corner of the formation as their commanders.
The skies were filled with flying Ghosts and Fierce Bats, these aerial Undead typically functioning as reconnaissance, messengers, or disruptors of enemy activity.
Fang Zhou was stationed at the Terror Knight’s command post, where there was a Magic Energy Sand Table.
Here, Fang Zhou also saw some Undead Officers under Hecarim’s command.
An Upper Tier Vampire Noble, maybe soon when he accumulates enough soul power and achievements, he could advance to become a Corpse Witch, Blood Bat Knight, or even a Terror Knight, possessing Glory Champion Tier strength.
Around the sand table, several Vampire Nobles whispered among themselves, all possessing Golden Tier combat strength, as High Tier Officers under Hecarim’s command.
Besides Hecarim, several Terror Sword Guards wearing medium armor and wielding two-handed greatswords were present, all of Golden Tier strength.
On the other side, several Vampire Mages led by a Corpse Witch were calculating something, part of Hecarim’s Mage Corps.
Fang Zhou stood at one corner of the grand hall, where a group of War Mercenaries was also present.
War Mercenaries have no rights.
Compared to the core units of the Undead, usually, when combat initiates, these War Mercenaries are the first to go on the battlefield.
Those War Mercenaries capable of entering the command post have at least Golden Tier strength, Fang Zhou noticed three robust Flesh Butchers among them.
These Flesh Butchers possess impressive strength, clad in metal armor so thick it makes Fang Zhou’s teeth ache.
Side-ways, these armors are at least one or two inches thick.
The armor’s thickness alone, even without enchantments, would make attackers dread, let alone the fact these armors are enchanted.
Besides the Flesh Butchers, Fang Zhou also saw a few Crowned Mummies.
These are mutated Undead, evolved from the unique Undead units of the Naraku Civilization, generally possessing Silver-level strength.
However, the ones before Fang Zhou possessed Golden Lower Rank strength, considered outstanding among their kind.
The situation of these Mummies looked not so great, at least from their equipment standpoint; they were not up to par with those of the Flesh Butchers.
After glancing around, Fang Zhou withdrew his gaze and waited silently.
Despite his inactivity, someone approached him proactively; it was the Crowned Mummies.
Fang Zhou sensed the approach of the Crowned Mummies, opened his eyes, and cast a puzzled gaze at the leading Crowned Mummy.
