Chapter 487: Archives Of Forgotten Realms

The black slate chest felt surprisingly heavy in Kyle’s gauntleted hand, not because of its physical mass, but due to the sheer density of condensed spatial mana sealed within its iron-bound seams.

Instead of immediately forcing the latch, Kyle let his thumb drag across the raised runes on the lid. The moment his Demon Knight core resonated with the box, the heavy iron lock dissolved into a fine mist of grey powder, and the lid swung open with a quiet, pneumatic hiss.

Inside lay two items resting on a bed of dark violet velvet.

The first was a ring forged from dark, iridescent celestial slate, inlaid with a single, unbroken filament of liquid gold that pulsed like a quiet heartbeat. The second was a thick, heavy scroll bound in white drake-hide, its edges singed by ancient lightning and sealed with a heavy wax stamp bearing the crest of the Spire’s original architects.

"A spatial ring..." Falcon murmured, stepping up beside him while wiping a strip of sweat from her forehead. Her four dark brown tails swished behind her in a calm, rhythmic pattern, small sparks of her newly evolved green poison-lightning crackling harmlessly against the stone floor. "We already have system storage. What makes that one special?"

"System storage is a localized pocket," Seraphina explained smoothly, her ocean trident resting against her shoulder. Her azure hair was still slightly damp from the crucible’s trial, but her aura was crystal clear, vibrating with the deep, oceanic resonance of her thunder-integrated domain. "A high-tier spatial ring forged inside the Spire acts as an external mana battery. It allows the wearer to store drawn environmental energy without placing burden on their physical meridians."

Kyle picked up the dark slate ring, slipping it onto the index finger of his right gauntlet.

The moment the ring settled against the pitch-black metal, a sharp, cooling current rushed down his arm and locked directly into his core. It didn’t push or disrupt his existing dark mana; instead, it formed an external, secondary reservoir—a void pocket capable of holding an immense volume of atmospheric thunder and spatial energy without adding a single grain of strain to his body.

’Diagnostic update,’ Snow’s melodic voice echoed inside his mind space. ’Item identified: Lightning-Core Spatial Ring. Secondary energy reservoir integrated. Atmospheric mana absorption rate increased by thirty-five percent. Current storage capacity: empty.’

Kyle then retrieved the white drake-hide scroll. Rather than unrolling it by hand, he injected a single thread of spatial mana from his gauntlet straight into the wax seal.

SNAP.

The wax seal shattered, and the scroll didn’t unroll on paper—it erupted into a grand, three-dimensional holographic map forged from floating golden runes and pale-blue spatial light that expanded across the entire sanctuary.

Yua let out a low whistle, crossing her arms over her chest as she looked up at the towering map. "Well... that doesn’t look like a standard floor layout."

The map did not merely show Tier Two or Tier Three. It displayed a terrifying, macro-cosmic schematic of the entire Spire—a gargantuan, ninety-nine-tier spire structure piercing through multiple dimensions, floating inside a vast, dark void surrounded by decaying planetary bodies.

"Look at the lower section," Seraphina whispered, pointing her slender finger toward the base of the floating diagram.

At the very bottom of the diagram sat a tiny, barely visible blue dot labeled The Lumia Kingdom / Lower Realm Nexus. Extending upward from that dot was a series of thin, red spatial threads that wound like roots into the first ten tiers of the Spire.

"The kingdom wasn’t just a neighbor to the Spire," Falcon said softly, her golden eyes tracking the red spatial threads. "It was an anchor point. The ancient royal line built their capital directly on top of the Spire’s primary subterranean root."

"Which explains why the ley-lines were so unstable," Kyle said, his slitted dark eyes fixing on the middle tiers of the floating map. "The Blood Moon Clan wasn’t just trying to conquer the lower realm. Cassian was trying to sever those roots so he could drop the lower realm into the void and claim the Spire’s lower ten tiers for himself."

"Selfish old parasite," Yua spat, her sharp red eyes narrowing at a cluster of flickering black markers located near the fiftieth tier. "What are those black marks up there?"

The Attendant of the Tempest Crucible walked forward silently, its metallic silver robes sweeping over the polished obsidian floor. It raised one slender arm, pointing toward the dark markers hovering near the middle of the Spire map.

"Those are the Void Sinks," the Attendant explained, its voice like soft bells ringing across a quiet room. "In the age before the collapse, when the architects still walked these halls, the Spire served as a barrier holding back the primeval Void. But when the lower realm’s conquerors stopped ascending three hundred years ago, the higher floors began to decay from lack of core circulation."

"Decay?" Kyle asked, turning his head toward the silver entity.

"Without new Ascendants clearing the trials and feeding fresh soul-lattice energy into the Spire’s central core," the Attendant detailed, "the upper tiers collapsed into stagnant, void-corrupted battlegrounds. Entities that should have been purged centuries ago have turned those floors into their personal domains."

"So the Spire isn’t just a dungeon or a testing ground," Seraphina realized, her face turning grave. "It’s a dying fortress. And if we don’t climb to the top and reactivate the primary core..."

"The Void will eventually eat its way down," Falcon finished, her tails tightening behind her back. "It’ll swallow the higher tiers, break through the first floor, and drop straight into the Lumia Kingdom."

The grand golden projection folded back into itself, condensing into a small, dense crystal rod that settled neatly into Kyle’s palm before dissolving into his spatial ring.

Kyle stood silent for a long beat, the quiet, absolute weight of his Demon Knight core settling across the room. He looked at his hand, flexing his gauntlet, feeling the cold, unyielding power of the new spatial ring harmonizing with his spatial storage.

"Then we keep climbing," Kyle said flatly.

"Ascendant Conner," the Attendant spoke, stepping back and bowing low until its silver forehead nearly touched the obsidian floor. "Beyond the archway behind the central dais lies the Gate of the Third Tier: The Ash-Draped Highlands. The guardians on those slopes do not possess the mechanical restraint of the Warden Array, nor do they honor ancient credentials easily. They are wild, battle-tested entities born from three centuries of stagnant mana."

"Good," Yua grinned, her white fangs flashing under the ambient light as she cracked her knuckles, dark purple sparks of blood-lightning popping between her fingers. "I was getting worried this place was going to turn into a tour."

"Keep your guards up," Kyle instructed his team, turning his back on the silver attendant and walking toward the gargantuan, archway at the far end of the sanctuary. "The lower floors gave us room to adapt. From Tier Three upward, we hit every floor with maximum force."

"Understood," Seraphina nodded sharply, her ocean trident glowing with a fierce, violet-tinged blue light.

"Lead the way, boss," Falcon smirked, her four dark brown tails flaring with vibrant, endothermic green fire.

Kyle stepped up to the massive double doors of the sanctuary—doors forged from solid black iron and inlaid with silver runes depicting a mountain swallowed by ash and fire.

He didn’t search for a keyhole. He simply placed his gauntleted left hand against the center of the iron doors.

HUMMMMMMMMM...

The Spire Key in his core resonated instantly. The pale-blue spatial aura flooded the black iron, turning the ancient runes from dead grey to a brilliant, blinding violet. With a deep, groaning roar that shook the obsidian floor beneath their feet, the heavy iron doors unlocked and swung slowly inward, revealing a howling, ash-choked vortex of red clouds and jagged, volcanic peaks stretching into an endless, dark sky.

The heat that rushed out from the open doorway was oppressive, carrying the heavy stench of sulfur, burnt slate, and ancient blood.

Kyle didn’t hesitate for a single second. With his dark coat whipping in the fiery gale, his dark shadow blade drawn and resting at his side, he took his first step past the threshold and into the violent, ash-draped slopes of Tier Three.

Behind him, Seraphina, Falcon, and Yua stepped through as one—four conquerors leaving the quiet sanctuaries behind to carve their way toward the stars.
