Triple X System
Chapter 471: The Bone Church (4)
The air in the innermost ring of the Bone Church was so heavy with high-grade mana and ancient, stagnant decay that it felt like breathing liquid dust.
They stood at the edge of the collapsed second sector, on a jagged, unstable precipice overlooking the vast, pitch-black subterranean chasm that served as the cathedral’s final foundation. The only path forward was a single, ancient stone bridge, narrow and treacherous, leading toward the High Altar.
The floating altar itself was gargantuan—a circular platform forged from solid, polished obsidian, held in place against the heavy gravitational drafts of the abyss by six massive iron chains, each one thick as an ancient oak tree, extending into the darkness below. A perpetual, roaring vortex of swirling dark red blood-clouds and trapped violet soul-fragments churned violently above the altar, illuminating the final inner sanctuary with a sickly, pulsing radiance.
Standing in the absolute center of the altar, directly beneath the vortex, was the final guardian of the Bone Church.
It was not a construct or a grafted elite. It was an ancient entity draped in interlocking plates of obsidian-plated armor, polished to a mirror-like black finish. A long, flowing crimson cape made of tattered soul-silk hung from its pauldrons, whipping violently in the chaotic winds. The entity’s helmet was a complete visor of smooth, polished obsidian, hiding any features. In its gauntleted right hand, it held a massive, two-handed scythe—its blade forged from the fused fangs of a dragon, radiating high-tier spatial pressure that warped the surrounding light.
This was **Malakor the Arch-Lich**—the third and most powerful commander under Vladimir, and the supreme keeper of the final sector core.
Embed directly into the center of Malakor’s obsidian chest armor was the third pulsing blood-crystal core. This crystal was smaller than the previous two but blazed with an blinding, condensed violet light, siphoning and refining the raw soul energy harvested from the millions of silver threads across the entire cathedral.
Malakor slowly raised its obsidian visor toward the group at the end of the bridge.
"The shadow pupil..." Malakor spoke. Its voice did not echo in the air; it resonated directly inside their skulls, a dry, cold, and emotionless tone that felt like a freezing blade sliding against their souls. "You have carved a predictable path through Vladimir’s design, Kyle Conner. But your journey ends here. You stand inside the sacred nexus where lower-world vitality is refined into the Spire’s absolute permanence."
The Arch-Lich slammed the butt of its dragon-fang scythe against the obsidian altar floor.
*BOOOOOOM!*
A shockwave of high-tier, condensing violet gravity erupted from the altar, traveling across the stone bridge with terrifying speed.
Kyle’s dark slitted eyes narrowed as he sensed the sheer density of the incoming attack. "Snow, analyze the energy signature!"
’Energy signature confirmed as condensed gravity and soul-friction,’ Snow’s analytical voice echoed inside his mind. ’It is designed to crush physical matter and shred spiritual cohesion simultaneously. You cannot block it with normal physical shields.’
"Falcon! Yua! Jump now!" Kyle ordered, his dark gauntlet igniting with pitch-black demon fire. "Seraphina, maximum ocean pressure around us!"
The group launched themselves into the air off the bridge, just milliseconds before the gravity shockwave hit the stone walkway. The ancient bridge literally disintegrated into gray dust under the pressure, collapsing into the darkness below.
"Ocean Art: Abyssal Sphere!" Seraphina shouted.
She slammed her trident onto the air beneath her feet, creating a dense, rotating bubble of pure, high-pressure sea water that completely enveloped the four of them in mid-air. The violet gravity wave slammed against the water sphere, causing it to ripple and compress violently, but Seraphina held the barrier firm using raw elemental force.
"We have to take the fight to the altar!" Kyle shouted, adjusting his center of gravity inside the water bubble. "Falcon, give us a push!"
"Got it!" Falcon’s dark brown tails ignited with blinding, emerald-green poison fire.
She stood inside the water sphere, pointed all four of her tails behind them, and unleashed a massive, explosive burst of concentrated green fire. The recoil from the massive poison blast served as a high-speed engine, rocketing Seraphina’s entire water bubble across the empty chasm at blinding speed, right toward Malakor the Arch-Lich.
The Arch-Lich simply raised its obsidian scythe, watching the incoming water sphere with cold indifference.
"Predictable elements," Malakor murmured inside their skulls. "Water cleanses, fire consumes... but gravity binds all things."
With a casual, horizontal sweep of its scythe, Malakor manipulated the gravity field directly surrounding the floating altar. The localized gravity intensified ten-fold in an instant, forming a massive, upward draft of dense violet pressure.
*KA-RACK!*
The upward gravity current hit the speeding water sphere, arresting its forward momentum completely. Seraphina’s Abyssal Sphere compressed inward under the overwhelming weight, shattering into a million droplets of harmless mist. The force of the impact sent Kyle, Yua, Falcon, and Seraphina spinning uncontrollably in mid-air, hurtling backward toward the chasm floor as their formation was violently broken.
"Hold on!" Kyle roared.
He shifted his weight, his dark coat whipping around him as he kicked off the ambient air using brute force, managing to stabilize his descent right above the void. He looked up to see Yua and Falcon falling rapidly toward the darkness below, their mana output temporarily disabled by the shockwave.
"Seraphina! Help them!" Kyle commanded.
"On it!" Seraphina righted herself, diving straight toward the falling duo. She used her ocean trident to whip a powerful, flowing current of azure water beneath Yua and Falcon, catching them ten feet above the darkness and lifting them safely back toward a stable obsidian ridge on the far edge of the canyon wall.
"You three stay clear and focus on environmental support!" Kyle ordered, his dark slitted eyes locking onto the Arch-Lich. "He’s a high-tier master caster. Physical speed alone won’t get close to him."
"Kyle, no!" Falcon yelled from the far ridge. "He’ll crush you if you fight him one-on-one!"
"I’m not fighting him with standard moves," Kyle replied softly, his slitted dark pupils glowing with lethal resolve.
Inside his mind, Kyle activated the hidden parameters of his advanced system.
’Snow,’ Kyle called out mentally, his voice dropping into a dangerous, icy register. ’Initiate Full Synchrony Protocol. Shift primary power output from physical kinetic force to dark elemental core compression.’
’Protocol initiating,’ Snow’s voice replied, her analytical tone overlaid with a subtle, dangerous resonance. ’Warning: Synchronizing dark element with your core at over ninety percent density will result in severe core fatigue and temporary lockout of physical speed enhancements upon deactivation.’
"Do it," Kyle commanded.
*THUMMMM!*
The pitch-black demon gauntlet on Kyle’s arm violently pulsed, its form shifting from smooth metal plating to ravenous, swirling vortexes of dense black energy. The demon flames that usually coated his blade retreated, condensing directly into his chest and arms, turning his pale skin black as soot. His dark hair stood on end, infused with shadow particles, and his slitted eyes turned from dark brown to pure, glowing voids of blackness.
Kyle’s core was no longer powering a muscular body; it was feeding raw, pressurized darkness directly into the environment, warping the ambient light and canceling the local spatial logic.
"Impressive density for a lower-world bear," Malakor noted, its Dry voice containing a slight edge of curiosity as it observed Kyle’s transformation. "You have accelerated your connection to the void core. But synchronization will not save you from the final gravity domain."
The Arch-Lich raised its dragon-fang scythe, pointing it directly at Kyle in mid-air.
"Gravity Art: Sovereign Collapse!"
Malakor condensed the entire gravitational field of the subterranean canyon into a single, localized point—directly centered on Kyle’s core frame. The localized pressure intensified a thousand-fold, forming a physical sphere of dark violet energy around Kyle. The pressure was so immense it began to physically compact his core matter, causing agonizing pain to shoot through his veins as his skeletal structure groaned under the weight.
"Kyle!" Lumia’s distant voice echoed in his mind, full of terror.
Kyle gasped for air, his body bent double under the crushing gravity. It felt as if a thousand mountain ranges were pressing down on his back simultaneously, grinding his core particles into nothingness.
’Snow... density status?’ Kyle thought, struggling to form the mental words through the pain.
’External gravity is at theoretical maximum,’ Snow replied, her voice strained under the extreme operational load. ’However, due to your Full Synchrony Protocol, the dense dark element now saturating your armor and skin is absorbing approximately eighty-eight percent of the gravimetric shockwave before it reaches your vital organs. Your core will hold for precisely two minutes, forty-five seconds.’
"Time... to break... the mold," Kyle growled out loud, forcing his body to straighten up against the Sovereign Collapse.
He raised his right hand, the gauntlet now nothing more than a dense sphere of shifting void energy. Instead of fighting the gravity, Kyle decided to feed it. He condensed his own pressurized darkness and combined it with the crushing violet pressure surrounding him.
The violet gravity sphere around Kyle slowly turned pitch-black, transforming into a violent, expanding vortex of ravenous shadow energy.
"What... is this?" Malakor murmured inside their skulls, its visor tilting slightly in genuine surprise as it felt the fundamental nature of its gravity domain being devoured by Kyle’s darkness. "He is consuming the gravity?"
Kyle looked up, his pure black void eyes burning with lethal intent.
He didn’t need physical speed now. He simply needed to erase the space between them. Kyle dissolved his physical form into a plume of dense black smoke, merging entirely with the vortex of devoured gravity.
*KA-WOOOOOOSH!*
The massive pitch-black shadow vortex shot across the empty chasm, moving not by physical velocity, but by collapsing the local spatial dimensions itself. The shadow plume erased the air, the wind, and the gravity field as it traveled, arriving in the center of the High Altar in less than a single heartbeat.
*BOOM!*
The shadow plume solidified directly in front of the Arch-Lich, reforming into Kyle’s dark form.
Malakor was momentarily paralyzed, its high-tier defensive wards useless against an attack that erased the space they were supposed to protect.
Before the Arch-Lich could raise its dragon-fang scythe to parry, Kyle drove his right fist—the fist encased in the pure void-sphere gauntlet—straight into the center of Malakor’s obsidian chest plate.
*KA-ROCK!*
The obsidian armor shattered on contact, sending thousands of polished black fragments flying across the altar floor like shrapnel.
Kyle plunged his hands deep into the Arch-Lich’s chest cavity, locking his slitted void eyes onto the condensed, pulsing violet blood-crystal core embedded in the marrow and wire-work behind the armor.
"First core down, second core down..." Kyle whispered, his voice resonating with a dangerous, hollow echo.
He gripped the third and final core with both hands, his void-sphere gauntlet beginning to collapse inward, ravenously consuming the compressed violet light.
"Break!" Kyle roared, driving every remaining drop of darkness from his full synchrony protocol into the core.
*KA-BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*
The final core of the Bone Church shattered with an explosion of violet and black energy that shook the entire subterranean cavern. The vortex of dark red blood-clouds and soul-fragments above the altar violently collapsed, exploding outward into a massive, clear wave of raw spiritual energy that swept across the entire canyon, purifying the air of all residual decay.
The dragon-fang scythe in Malakor’s hand withered and decayed into gray dust instantly. The Arch-Lich’s obsidian armor collapsed into a pile of harmless, empty plating, the ancient entity inside finally granted the clean death it had been denied for centuries.
The six massive iron chains holding the High Altar snapped simultaneously under the spatial feedback, and the entire gargantuan obsidian platform began to tilt and slowly slide backward into the dark chasm.
Kyle stood in the center of the tilting altar, his slitted black void eyes slowly fading back to normal dark brown, his Full Synchrony deactivating. A waves of paralyzing core fatigue hit him, causing his knees to buckle.
"Kyle! Hold on!" Falcon’s voice shouted from the ridge.
She didn’t hesitate. Falcon leaped off the ridge, using a powerful, controlled burst of green poison fire Recoil to rocket across the chasm. She landed lightly beside Kyle on the tilting altar, wrapping a strong arm around his waist, her four brown tails whipping behind her to maintain balance on the slick obsidian.
"Seraphina, maximum current, lift us out!" Falcon yelled, looking up toward the ridge.
"Ocean Art: High Tide Torrent!" Seraphina shouted, thrusting her trident forward from the far ridge.
A massive, powerful torrent of azure sea water shot across the chasm, forming a solid, moving bridge beneath Falcon and Kyle’s feet. Yua joined Seraphina, grabbing Kyle’s other arm as the powerful ocean current lifted the entire group safely off the tilting obsidian platform just as the gargantuan High Altar slipped off its final foundations and plunged silently into the eternal darkness of the abyss below.
They landed on the far ridge, collapsing onto the cold stone floor, exhausted, bruised, but alive.
The Bone Church was silent. The three cores were destroyed. The final gate to the central mountain passes was open.
Kyle lay on his back, staring up at the newly purified canyon ceiling, a faint, bitter smile touching his lips as the paralyzing fatigue slowly receded.
"Five problems down," Kyle whispered softly, his voice heavy with weariness and resolve. "Just one more sector before we stand before the central spire."
