Chapter 426: Consort Contract

The glowing blue seal over Kyle’s chest throbbed with a cold, binding magic, settling into his skin like liquid ice. Seraphina ran the pad of her thumb across his lower lip, her violet eyes swimming with possessive warmth as she drank in her victory.

"You are mine now, Kyle Conner," she whispered, her voice a sultry, melodic chime that reverberated off the pearl walls. "A king bound to his queen."

She never got the chance to pull him to his feet.

A sound tore through the vast cavern—not a scream, not a cry, but a guttural, terrifying roar of absolute, feral rage. It was a sound that didn’t belong to a civilized woman, nor even to a noble pureblood princess. It was the primordial howl of an apex monster whose soul had been ripped open.

The air temperature inside the pearl hall plunged instantly.

The pool of spilled blood beneath Yua didn’t just pool on the wet stone—it began to boil. Tiny, crimson sparks ignited within the dark liquid, turning into a blinding, crimson tempest that blasted outward in every direction.

"Yua...?" Kyle rasped, forcing his head to turn against the overwhelming fatigue locking his limbs. His breath caught in his throat.

Yua was standing up, but her body was moving with terrifying, unnatural jerks, like a marionette pulled by unseen, violent strings. Her glossy black hair floated around her head in a wild, gravity-defying halo. Her pale skin had turned as white as powdered marble, making the black, vein-like lines spiderwebbing across her neck and cheeks stand out in sickening detail.

Most terrifying of all were her eyes. The white sclera had turned completely pitch-black, and her pupils burned like twin suns of solid, liquid blood. From her upper jaw, two massive, curved fangs extended past her lower lip—dripping with a thick, glowing crimson fluid that hissed as it hit the pearl floor, melting the stone on contact.

"You... touched... him..." Yua croaked. Her voice was doubled—a hollow, demonic echo layered over her broken, sobbing pitch.

Seraphina’s smile vanished instantly. She stepped back, her violet eyes narrowing as her hand reflexively gripped the shaft of her dark marine trident. "What is this? Her core is completely shattered. She should not even be conscious."

"She isn’t," Kyle gritted out, his heart hammering against his ribs in sheer terror. He tried to push himself up, but his muscles screamed in agony, completely drained by the Rootcrystal Deer’s cruel trick. "Yua! Stop! Look at me! Yua!"

She didn’t hear him. She couldn’t hear him. The pureblood instincts—the primal, instinctual frenzy hardcoded into the oldest vampire bloodlines when their bonded mate was threatened—had completely hijacked her brain.

Forty yards away, nestled between two collapsed coral pillars, Elara watched the horrifying transformation take place. With the last dregs of her recovered mana, she raised her wooden wand, expanding a soft, translucent dome of golden light around Marcus and the forty-seven refugees.

Elara leaned her head back against the cold stone pillar, letting out a long, ragged sigh that carried a depth of heavy, haunting sorrow.

"Oh, Yua..." Elara muttered, her voice barely a whisper beneath the rising howl of the blood-storm. She pulled her knees tight against her chest, her golden eyes wide with a cold, phantom fear. "This is bad... this is so bad..."

Marcus looked down at her, his face pale as he held his breath. "Elara... what’s happening to her? Her mana is completely chaotic! It’s like her heart is exploding!"

Elara didn’t look at Marcus. Her gaze was fixed entirely on the marble-skinned monster Yua had become, her fangs dripping venom onto the pearl floor.

"This is the first time I’ve ever seen her fangs bloodthirsty since that night," Elara whispered softly, her throat tight. "The night the Clover Spire fell. When the high elders tried to harvest her blood... she went into the Crimson Delirium. She slaughtered every living thing in that hall until there was nothing left to cut. She’s burning her own life essence, Marcus. If she doesn’t stop in three minutes... her core will turn to ash."

"YUA, STOP!" Kyle roared, using every ounce of his raw, physical willpower to drag his paralyzed body across the pearl floor toward her. "Don’t do this! I’m right here! Look at me!"

Yua’s head snapped toward Seraphina with a sickening, audible crack of her neck joints.

"TEAR YOU APART!" Yua shrieked.

She didn’t run. She didn’t leap. She simply vanished.

*BOOM!*

The air where she had been standing imploded, sending a shockwave of blood mist thirty feet into the air.

Seraphina’s eyes widened in shock as Yua materialized directly in front of her face, faster than the eye could track—faster even than Seraphina’s aquatic reaction speed.

Yua’s fingers had transformed into jagged, four-inch claws of hardened crimson bone. She drove her right hand straight toward Seraphina’s throat, aiming to tear her esophagus out in a single, savage strike.

Seraphina barely managed to bring up the shaft of her dark marine trident to block!

*CLANG!*

The collision sounded like a cannon firing inside a closed room. Sparks of blue and red magic exploded in every direction, cracking the pearl floor beneath Seraphina’s feet for fifty yards. The force pushed the aquatic queen backward, her boots burning against the wet stone as she struggled to hold off the frenzied vampire.

"Die! Die! Die!" Yua snarled, her black and red eyes wild, unblinking, and entirely devoid of human reason. She didn’t use technique. She didn’t use forms. She swung her claws in a blinding barrage of wild, animalistic slashes, driving Seraphina back step by desperate step.

*SLASH! SLASH! SLASH!*

"Insolent leech!" Seraphina screamed, her pride wounded as a jagged claw managed to nick her cheek, leaving a thin line of blue blood trickling down her porcelain skin.

Seraphina thrust her left hand forward, summoning a wave of compressed, high-pressure water that slammed directly into Yua’s chest like a battering ram.

*THWACK!*

The impact should have broken every bone in a normal person’s upper body. It blasted Yua back twenty feet, but she didn’t even roll. She dug her claws into the pearl stone, stopping her momentum instantly, ignoring the blood pouring from her mouth, and launched herself right back at the queen with a terrifying, hollow laugh.

"She doesn’t feel pain!" Seraphina gasped, her violet eyes flashing with a sudden, genuine spike of alarm. "Her nervous system has completely severed itself!"

"Yua, please!" Kyle screamed, his hands clawing at the stone as he dragged himself inch by inch into the path of their destruction. "Stop burning your core! You’re dying, Yua! Look at me! Look at Kyle!"

Inside his mind, Snow’s voice chimed in, filled with deep, frantic urgency.

[Kyle! Her vital signature is collapsing rapidly!] Snow warned him, her voice trembling slightly with uncharacteristic emotion. [The Crimson Delirium is consuming her soul matrix from the inside out! In two minutes, her blood core will permanently ignite, causing fatal organ failure! You must interrupt her blood circulation, or she will die right in front of you!]

’I can’t move, Snow!’ Kyle thought back, his teeth bleeding as he gritted them in absolute frustration. ’My core is completely drained! The deer took everything!’

[Then use the contract!] Snow commanded sharply inside his mind. [Seraphina’s soul contract is active! You carry a direct line to the spring’s mana reserve through that seal on your chest! Use the queen’s own power to force your body to move!]

Kyle’s eyes snapped toward the glowing blue mark over his heart. He didn’t care about the consequences. He didn’t care if binding himself deeper to Seraphina damaged his soul. He focused every shred of his mental consciousness on that blue mark, forcibly wrenching a surge of high-density aquatic mana straight out of the contract’s matrix and shoving it into his dead legs.

*THROB!*

A sharp, agonizing burst of blue light erupted from Kyle’s chest. His heart hammered against his ribs, and feeling surged back into his limbs like liquid fire.

Meanwhile, the battle between Yua and Seraphina had reached a horrific, deadly fever pitch.

Seraphina had drawn the **Heart of the Ocean** locket once again, surrounding herself with a swirling vortex of pressurized blue water that sliced through everything it touched. But Yua didn’t care about the defenses. She threw herself directly into the slicing water vortex, letting the high-pressure liquid cut deep gouges across her arms, legs, and waist, blood spraying everywhere as she forced her way straight toward Seraphina’s neck.

"Get away from him, you thief!" Yua roared, her blood-drenched claws locking around Seraphina’s shoulders, pinning the queen against a towering pearl pillar.

Yua opened her mouth wide, her curved, venomous fangs gleaming under the crystal lights as she plunged her head down, aiming to sink her teeth straight into Seraphina’s jugular vein!

"Get off me, you filthy beast!" Seraphina shrieked, her face pale with pure terror as she raised her right hand, aiming her dark marine trident straight at Yua’s exposed, bleeding heart at point-blank range.

If that trident thrust forward, it would punch straight through Yua’s chest, destroying her blood core forever. And in her blind, frenzied state, Yua wasn’t even trying to dodge.

"NO!" Kyle screamed.

Kyle blurred across the hall, powered by the stolen contract mana.

He didn’t attack Seraphina. He didn’t raise his shadow talon. He thrust his own body straight into the narrow gap between the two warring females!

*STAB!*

The sharp, dark marine prong of Seraphina’s trident punched straight into Kyle’s left shoulder, burying itself three inches deep into his flesh. Blue and red blood sprayed across his face, but Kyle didn’t even flinch.

At the exact same time, Yua’s plunging fangs didn’t sink into Seraphina’s throat. They sank deep into Kyle’s right shoulder, right above his collarbone.

Silence fell over the cavern.

The sharp, metallic scent of Kyle’s blood filled the air.

Seraphina froze, her hand trembling on the shaft of her trident, her violet eyes wide with absolute shock as she stared at the man who had deliberately placed himself on her weapon to save the monster attacking her.

Yua’s body stiffened instantly.

The moment her long, curved fangs pierced Kyle’s skin and touched his warm, blood-infused soul essence, the dark, wild frenzy driving her mind shattered like glass. The taste of his blood—the specific, unmistakable flavor of the man who had carried her through the darkness—floated through her chaotic mind, washing away the madness.

The pitch-black color in her eyes faded, returning to their natural, bright crimson hue. The veins on her face receded, and her long fangs slowly shrank back into her mouth.

Yua pulled her lips back from his bloody shoulder, staring at Kyle with wide, terrified eyes filled with trembling, human tears.

"Kyle...?" Yua whispered, her voice weak, small, and completely broken. She looked at the blood on her lips, then down at the trident buried in his other shoulder, and finally at his face, which was pale, tired, but looking at her with endless gentleness. "Kyle... what... what did I do...?"

Kyle raised his right hand, his trembling fingers gently cupping her pale, cold cheek, wiping away the tear of blood trickling down her face.

"You didn’t do anything wrong, Yua," Kyle rasped softly, giving her a faint, bloody smile. "I’ve got you. I’m right here."

Yua’s eyes welled with fresh tears. Her body lost all remaining strength as her blood core finally shut down. Her knees gave out, and she collapsed forward, burying her face into Kyle’s chest, sobbing uncontrollably as her small, bruised hands clutched tightly at his torn shirt.

"I’m sorry..." Yua wept, her voice muffled against his chest, her entire body shivering in emotional exhaustion. "I’m so sorry... I couldn’t stop myself... I thought... I thought she took you away from me..."

"Nobody’s taking me anywhere," Kyle murmured, resting his chin on top of her head as his left arm wrapped protectively around her waist.

Seraphina slowly pulled her trident back out of Kyle’s shoulder, her hand shaking slightly as she watched the two of them. She looked at Kyle—at the blood pouring from his wound, at the way he held the broken vampire princess without a single trace of resentment or fear in his eyes.

"You... you threw yourself onto my blade for her," Seraphina whispered, her melodious voice carrying a strange, complex emotion that wasn’t anger or victory, but a deep, profound awe. "Even after she went wild... even after she lost her mind... you protected her."

Kyle turned his dark, tired eyes toward the Aquatic Queen, holding her gaze with absolute, unwavering resolve.

"I protect the people who walk with me," Kyle said, his voice quiet, heavy, and firm. "That was the deal, Seraphina. I accept your contract. I become your consort. But my people walk out of this spring alive, unharmed, and whole. Or you can kill me right now and see if your contract survives a dead king."

Seraphina stared at him for a long, heavy moment. Slowly, a small, genuine smile touched her lips—a smile that held no mockery, no cruelty, only a newfound, profound respect.

She lowered her dark marine trident, turning her head toward her guards.

"Release the mortals from their bubbles," Seraphina commanded softly. "Prepare the finest water-fruits, clean fresh springs, and restorative herbs from the royal vault. Escort our guests to the guest chambers."

She turned back to Kyle, stepping close and kneeling beside him on the wet pearl floor. She reached out, her cool, delicate hand gently touching the wound on his shoulder, channeling a soft, warm blue light that instantly cauterized his bleeding skin.

"Your terms are accepted, my king," Seraphina whispered softly into his ear, her violet eyes shining with a deep, permanent warmth. "Rest now. The Wandering Spring is yours to command."
