Chapter 425: New Harem Member!

Kyle stared up into Seraphina’s violet eyes, his teeth grinding together so hard his jaw throbbed. The crushing weight of the water chains burned against his chest, but the fire roaring in his soul was hotter.

He looked at Yua, bleeding and weeping at his feet. He looked at Elara, pale and slumping against Marcus, and at the forty-seven terrified humans trapped in floating bubbles.

"I told you," Kyle rasped, his voice dropping into an icy, primal register. "I don’t sell myself."

Before Seraphina could react, Kyle detonated his dark energy.

He didn’t care about conserving stamina anymore. The dark flames of his demon core flared out in a violent shockwave, turning the water chains around his chest into instantly vaporized steam. He lunged forward from his knees, his right leg fully encased in the black, void-forged armor of his shadow talon. He aimed a lethal, point-blank strike straight at Seraphina’s sternum.

*BOOM!*

Seraphina didn’t even draw a weapon. She brought her left arm up, a circular shield of pressurized, spinning blue water forming around her forearm. Kyle’s shadow talon slammed into the water barrier, sending a deafening crack echoing through the pearl hall. The sheer force pushed her back three feet, her boots leaving light grooves in the pearl floor, but her expression remained completely calm.

"Impulsive," Seraphina murmured, her eyes flashing with dangerous amusement as she flicked her wrist, blasting Kyle back with a heavy wave of aquatic force.

Kyle tumbled backward, landing in a low crouch beside Yua, his chest heaving as dark smoke curled off his skin.

"Stop!" Seraphina raised her hand, halting her guards who were about to rush in. She looked down at Kyle, her lips curling into a wicked, calculating smile. "You have spirit, human. I respect a man who fights even when the ocean is falling on his head. So, let us make a wager."

Kyle wiped a streak of blood from his lip, his eyes narrowed. "What wager?"

"A duel," Seraphina declared, her melodious voice ringing across the grand hall. "Just you and me. No guards, no interference. If you can defeat me in single combat, I will grant you and your people free, unhindered passage through the Wandering Spring. I will even provide clean water and food to sustain your mortals until you reach the Heart of Kraken."

Kyle’s gaze sharpened. "And if I lose?"

Seraphina glided forward, her violet eyes burning with absolute, possessive victory. "If you lose, you yield without further resistance. We form a lifelong soul-contract. You become my royal consort, you remain bound to me, and wherever your path leads on this world or others, I walk beside you as a permanent part of your inner circle—your harem, as your surface dwellers call it."

"Kyle, no!" Elara’s raspy, panicked voice cut through the air. She was leaning against Marcus, her golden eyes wide with shock as she coughed violently. "Don’t you dare agree to that! Are you completely insane?!"

Kyle turned his head slightly toward her. "Elara—"

"It’s a trap, you idiot!" Elara yelled, her voice trembling with genuine, frantic anger. "She’s the sovereign of this entire region! Her mana is directly tied to the water beneath your boots! You’re physically exhausted, your magic is drained, and you’re stepping straight into a stacked deck! You can’t gamble all of us on a duel you’re destined to lose!"

"If I don’t take this deal, she drowns all of you right now," Kyle said bluntly, his voice steady, grounded, and terrifyingly calm. "I don’t have a choice, Elara. I’m getting us through this spring."

"You arrogant, stubborn fool..." Elara choked out, tears of frustration pricking her eyes as she sank back against Marcus’s shoulder. "You always think you have to carry everything alone..."

Kyle turned back to face Seraphina, stepping away from Yua and raising his shadow-armored hands. "I accept your terms. A duel. Winner takes all."

Seraphina’s smile broadened, rich and intoxicating. "Magnificent."

[Kyle, initializing deep combat analysis,] Snow’s voice chimed inside his mind, perfectly sharp, calm, and intensely focused. [I am extracting all available environmental and spatial data on Queen Seraphina. Her primary mana flow relies on localized fluid manipulation and high-density aquatic pressure. Physical armor penetration via your Shadow Core is your highest probability for landing a decisive blow, but her reaction time is 0.04 seconds faster than your current physical output.]

’Then tell me where to strike, Snow,’ Kyle thought back, his dark eyes locking onto the queen.

[I am feeding predictive motion trajectories directly into your visual field. Move on my mark!]

"Begin!" Seraphina purred.

Kyle didn’t hesitate. He blurred forward, using his shadow boots to cut through the shallow water with zero sound.

[Duck left—pressurized water blade incoming!] Snow warned instantly.

Kyle dipped his shoulder to the left just as an invisible, compressed crescent of liquid sliced through the air where his neck had been a millisecond prior, shattering a massive coral pillar behind him. He kept his momentum, closing the ten-yard gap in the blink of an eye.

"You’re fast, Kyle Conner!" Seraphina laughed softly, stepping sideways as Kyle drove a shadow-infused right hook toward her jaw.

She caught his wrist with her left hand, her grip like an iron vise, and thrust her right palm straight into his ribs. A blast of heavy aquatic force exploded against his side, snapping two of his ribs and sending him crashing hard onto the pearl floor.

"Kyle!" Yua cried out weakly from the ground, her fingers digging into the stone.

Kyle scrambled up instantly, coughing up blood, but his dark eyes never left Seraphina’s. "Is that all you’ve got, fish queen?"

"Oh, I’m just getting started, my king," Seraphina teased, her long violet hair swirling around her shoulders as she summoned four swirling spears of solid ice around her head, launching them straight at him.

[Upper left, lower right, strike center!] Snow commanded in his mind.

Kyle wove through the first three ice spears, his shadow talon shattering the fourth mid-air, but the sheer effort was rapidly draining his remaining reserves. His knees wobbled, his vision blurring as physical exhaustion clawed at his mind. He was fighting a losing battle; her speed and endless mana pool were simply overwhelming him.

Seraphina glided in close, her hand snapping out to grab Kyle by his throat, slamming him hard onto his back against the wet floor. She pinned his arms down, leaning over him with a triumphant, breathless smile.

"It is over, Kyle," Seraphina whispered softly, her face inches from his as she looked down at him with possessive warmth. "You fought bravely, but the spring belongs to me."

Kyle gritted his teeth, his vision going dark at the edges as her grip tightened on his throat. He couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t move.

Suddenly, the world around him went dead silent.

The sound of the splashing water, Seraphina’s triumphant laughter, Elara’s panicked screams—everything faded into absolute nothingness.

Kyle’s consciousness was violently yanked inward, tumbling through a swirling, pitch-black abyss until he slammed down onto a floor made of void.

Floating in the center of the dark expanse was the brown Rootcrystal Deer.

Its majestic, twisting antlers stretched into the darkness, and floating perfectly between them was a pulsing, blood-red gem that cast a sickly, crimson light across its serene, wood-like face. It stared down at Kyle, its deep, glowing eyes filled with ancient, cold mockery.

"How pitiful," the deer’s voice echoed in Kyle’s skull, raspy, echoing, and mocking. "Losing so pathetically to a mere subordinate."

Kyle pushed himself up from the void floor, glaring at the creature. "Subordinate? What the hell are you talking about? She’s the queen of this domain!"

The deer let out a low, huffing sound that sounded disturbingly like a laugh. "A queen of puddles. You know nothing of real hierarchy, boy. You cannot change what once was already was."

"I don’t have time for your cryptic garbage!" Kyle spat, his fists clenched tight. "My people are dying out there!"

The deer stepped closer, the pulsing red gem between its antlers casting a long, terrifying shadow over Kyle. "Do you want to win, Kyle Conner? Do you want the power to crush this little fish under your heel?"

Kyle shrank back slightly, his eyes narrowing in deep suspicion. "What’s the catch? Last time I borrowed your power, you nearly wiped out my mind."

"There is nothing to worry about this time," the deer assured him smoothly, its voice dripping with a false, soothing charm that made Kyle’s skin crawl. "A simple exchange. A temporary loan. Five minutes of absolute authority. No permanent cost... I promise."

Kyle knew it was a terrible idea. He knew the deer was hiding something, but looking back at the memory of Yua’s tears and Elara’s pale face, he knew he had no choice.

"Fine," Kyle growled. "Give me the power."

*WVWWWWWW!*

In an instant, Kyle’s consciousness was slammed back into his physical body on the pearl floor of the palace.

Seraphina was still leaning over him, her smile triumphant—until Kyle’s eyes snapped open.

They weren’t dark red anymore. They were burning with an impossible, blinding crimson-gold radiance that shook the very foundations of the cavern.

A wave of terrifying, ancient aura exploded from Kyle’s chest! The sheer pressure blasted Seraphina off him, sending the sovereign queen flying fifty feet across the hall, her boots skidding wildly as she barely managed to land on her feet.

"What... what is this magic?!" Seraphina gasped, her violet eyes wide with genuine shock and sudden terror.

Kyle stood up slowly. His body was enveloped in a roaring pillar of dark reddish-gold energy that physically pushed the water away from him, drying the floor for twenty yards in every direction. His physical stats skyrocketed to astronomical levels, his sheer presence making the surrounding mermen warriors drop to their knees, vomiting blood from the overwhelming spiritual pressure.

[Kyle! This energy output is off the charts!] Snow shouted inside his mind, her voice filled with panic and wonder. [You have five minutes before this temporary surge collapses!]

"Five minutes is more than enough," Kyle said, his voice echoing with a terrifying double-tone.

He stepped forward, appearing directly in front of Seraphina in less than a millisecond. He brought his right hand down in a devastating, heavy palm strike.

Seraphina barely raised her hands in time to block, but the raw, absurd power behind Kyle’s strike shattered her water shields instantly, blasting her through two massive coral pillars before she slammed into the base of her own throne.

Seraphina coughed up a wave of blue blood, her pale chest heaving in shock. She stared at Kyle as he walked toward her like an unstoppable god of death.

"You... you monster..." Seraphina rasped, her hand scrambling toward her neck.

In pure, desperate self-preservation, Seraphina unclasped a heavy, deep blue locket-like amulet hanging around her neck.

It was a beautiful, ancient relic forged from dark marine iron, shaped like a closed sea shell, with a single, tear-shaped sapphire embedded in its center that hummed with ancient, ocean mana. It was the **Heart of the Ocean**—a legendary sacred item currently dormant at its first stage of awakening, but still possessing terrifying defensive power.

"By the ancient tides, shield me!" Seraphina screamed, crushing the locket in her palm.

*SHRRRRRRR!*

A blinding, impenetrable sphere of crystalline blue energy erupted from the locket, enveloping Seraphina in a floating, impenetrable barrier that absorbed the ambient mana of the entire spring.

Kyle arrived at the barrier, raising his fist coated in roaring crimson-gold dark energy. "Break!"

He slammed his fist into the locket’s barrier with all his might!

*BOOOOOOOOOOM!*

The entire subterranean cavern shuddered violently! Huge stalactites fell from the ceiling, crashing into the water below. The barrier cracked slightly under the absurd force of Kyle’s strike, but the sacred item held firm, repelling the blow and sending a heavy shockwave rebounding back into Kyle’s body.

Kyle prepared to strike a second time, raising his fist to shatter the locket’s defense completely—

Suddenly, a sharp, agonizing sensation cut through his chest.

The roaring crimson-gold power flowing through his veins didn’t just fade—it was violently cut off from the inside.

Inside his skull, the Rootcrystal Deer let out a cold, mocking laugh, intentionally withdrawing its borrowed energy a full four minutes early!

"No... not now...!" Kyle gasped out.

His legs gave out completely. The dark scales vanished from his skin, the gold light faded from his eyes, and Kyle collapsed forward, slamming face-first onto the cold pearl floor right in front of Seraphina’s barrier, completely drained, paralyzed, and helpless.

The blue barrier surrounding Seraphina dissolved. She stood up slowly, pale, bruised, and gasping for breath, looking down at Kyle’s collapsed body with a mixture of intense shock, lingering fear, and absolute triumph.

She walked over, kneeling beside Kyle’s helpless form, her slender fingers reaching down to gently turn his face toward her.

"A magnificent struggle, my king," Seraphina whispered softly, her violet eyes shining with victory as she looked down into his exhausted, defeated eyes. "You almost had me. But in the end... you lost."

She leaned down, pressing her cold lips gently against his in a deep, possessive kiss that sealed their fate. A faint, glowing blue seal materialized over Kyle’s heart, locking their lifelong contract into place.

From the floor nearby, Yua watched in shattered, weeping silence, while Elara covered her face in defeated disbelief.

Seraphina pulled back slowly, smiling down at Kyle with ultimate satisfaction. "Welcome to my court, Kyle Conner. The Wandering Spring is yours... and you are mine."
