Triple X System
Chapter 423: King?
The transition out of the suffocating bone-valley was shockingly abrupt. As they stumbled through the narrow archway formed by two towering leviathan ribs, the oppressive white fog vanished, replaced by an eerie, bioluminescent glow that bathed the landscape in shades of deep indigo and shimmering cyan.
They had stepped directly into the domain of **The Wandering Spring**.
Unlike the dry, blood-red dunes of the crash site or the rotting swamp of the valley, this region was a vast, subterranean cavern that stretched as far as the eye could see. The floor was a shallow, crystalline wetland, covered in ankle-deep, luminescent blue water that rippled with every step. Towering crystal formations sprouted from the submerged earth like giant frozen trees, humming with an ancient, aquatic power that vibrated through the soles of their boots.
"The water..." Marcus whispered, stopping at the edge of the wetland. He stared down at the crystal-clear pool, his lips dry and cracked. "Is it... is it poisonous like the black river?"
Yua knelt down, her crimson eyes scanning the liquid. She extended a slender, pale finger, hovering just a millimeter above the surface before making contact. She closed her eyes, sensing the vital density of the fluid.
"No," Yua murmured, looking up at Kyle with a mix of surprise and relief. "It’s pure. In fact... it’s saturated with high-density mana. It’s a natural spring fed directly from the outer veins of the planetary core."
"Can we drink it?" a young mother near the back called out, holding her shivering child. "Please... my daughter hasn’t had real water since we left the Clover Domain."
Kyle looked at the refugees. They were at the end of their rope. Elara was still unconscious, cradled in Marcus’s arms, her face ghost-white from total mana depletion. If they didn’t rest soon, the refugees would begin dying of pure physical shock before they ever reached the Heart of Kraken.
[Kyle, caution,] Snow’s voice rang inside his head, sharp, alert, and deeply focused. [The water itself is harmless and highly restorative, but my long-range sensors are detecting intense spatial distortions beneath the submerged trenches. We are not alone in this spring. The local apex predators are already surrounding our position.]
’What kind of predators, Snow?’ Kyle asked mentally, his fingers tightening around Yua’s hand as he scanned the serene blue pools.
[Aquatic humanoid entities,] Snow reported, her voice carrying a tense, watchful thread. [High-level bio-signatures. They are utilizing localized water-stealth fields. They are currently thirty yards out, encircling the entire perimeter of forty-seven refugees.]
Before Kyle could yell a warning, the tranquil silence of the cavern shattered.
*SWOOSH!*
Dozens of towering geysers erupted simultaneously from the shallow water around them, forming a massive, eighty-foot ring of pressurized liquid that completely cut off their escape. The sheer force of the rising water created a deafening roar, spraying mist into the air that glowed with dangerous, blue magic.
From the heart of the erupting geysers, aquatic silhouettes emerged, leaping through the air with terrifying speed and agility.
They weren’t fish-like monsters; they were breathtaking, lethal aquatic humanoids—mermen and mermaids. Their upper bodies were sculptured, pale, and covered in intricate, glowing blue tribal scales, while their lower bodies transitioned into long, powerful serpent-like tails that glided effortlessly through both air and water. Their eyes burned with a piercing, golden light, and in their hands, they wielded heavy, three-pronged tridents forged from dark marine steel.
"Intruders!" a booming, echoey voice roared from the lead merman, a massive warrior with dark blue scales and a scarred chest. He thrust his trident forward, a ring of pressurized water locking around Kyle’s neck like a physical collar. "Surface dwellers step into the Sacred Spring of Kraken! Bind them!"
"Get away from him!" Yua snarled, her crimson eyes flaring as she summoned two razor-sharp **[Blood Edge]** blades, preparing to leap.
"Yua, wait! Don’t strike!" Kyle shouted, feeling the immense, crushing pressure of the water collar around his throat. He couldn’t risk a full-scale battle here—not with Elara passed out and forty-seven defenseless humans packed tightly behind them.
Before Yua could launch her attack, six merfolk warriors plunged into the water beneath her feet. Massive, glowing blue tendrils of liquid erupted from the pool, wrapping tightly around her arms, waist, and legs, binding her blood magic at the source.
"Kyle!" Yua cried out, thrashing violently against the water restraints, her eyes burning with pure, murderous rage as the warriors hauled her back. "Let me go, you fish-faced bastards! Touch him and I’ll drain every drop of fluid from your scales!"
The refugees screamed as dozens of water bindings shot out from the pool, safely but firmly cocooning all forty-seven humans, including the unconscious Elara and Marcus, in glowing, oxygen-rich bubbles of water that lifted them off the ground.
[Kyle, do not resist with dark flames,] Snow instructed rapidly inside his skull, her voice calm and calculated despite the chaos. [Their water magic is directly tied to the planetary core’s mana vein. If you unleash dark fire here, it will trigger a thermal shockwave that will vaporize the refugees inside those water bubbles. Let them take us. They are heading toward the central palace.]
Kyle forced his demon energy to recede, letting his arms drop to his sides as two heavy mermen warriors pinned his wrists behind his back with glowing liquid cuffs. "We aren’t here to fight you! We’re trying to reach the Heart of Kraken!"
The lead merman sneered, his golden eyes cold and unyielding. "You will speak your lies before the Sovereign, land-dweller. Move!"
The merfolk dragged their captives deep beneath the central trench of the spring, navigating through a series of submerged, crystal-lit aqueducts that led into a breathtaking underwater palace.
The structure was carved entirely from glowing white pearl and iridescent coral, suspended inside a massive air-pocket cavern beneath the seabed. Ancient aquatic banners hung from towering pillars, and hundreds of merfolk warriors lined the grand pathway, their tridents raised in cold unison.
At the far end of the grand hall, raised upon a towering throne carved from a single, massive piece of glowing blue aquamarine, sat the ruler of the Wandering Spring.
Queen Seraphina.
She was an absolute vision of lethal elegance and divine beauty. Her long, silvery-blue hair floated around her shoulders like a cloud of silk, cascading down her pale, porcelain skin. Her eyes were deep, shimmering pools of violet light, holding centuries of ancient authority and cold intellect. Her upper body was clad in a delicate corset forged from glowing pearl scales, while her long, shimmering violet tail coiled gracefully around the base of her throne.
Beside her throne sat a massive, lethal trident that hummed with enough raw aquatic mana to flood a small continent.
The mermen forced Kyle down onto his knees on the polished pearl floor, slamming Yua down beside him, while the floating water bubbles containing the refugees hovered in a neat row behind them.
"Your Majesty," the lead warrior bowed deeply, pressing his fist to his chest. "We caught these surface vermin trespassing in the upper spring. One of them bears the foul mark of the pureblood vampires, and the males are escorting a herd of unawakened mortals."
Queen Seraphina didn’t speak immediately. She leaned back on her throne, resting her chin on her hand, her violet eyes slowly sweeping over the group. When her gaze landed on Yua, her lip curled in subtle disdain.
"A pureblood princess away from her spire," Seraphina’s voice echoed through the hall—a rich, melodious sound that vibrated like a plucked harp string, yet carried a terrifying, crushing weight. "How pathetic. Reduced to crawling through the mud of Kraken."
"Watch your tongue, fish queen," Yua spat back coldly, her eyes flashing blood-red despite the water cuffs binding her wrists. "I’ve killed grander beasts than you for speaking to me in that tone."
Seraphina merely smirked, amused by Yua’s defiance, before her violet gaze finally settled on Kyle.
The moment her eyes locked onto Kyle, her expression shifted. The idle boredom vanished, replaced by a sharp, intense curiosity.
"Bring him closer," Seraphina commanded.
The guards shoved Kyle forward until he was kneeling just three feet from the base of her throne.
Seraphina leaned down from her seat. Her long, slender fingers reached out, touching Kyle’s jawline. Her touch was icy cold, sending a shiver straight down his spine, but her fingers were surprisingly delicate as she lifted his face to inspect him under the crystalline light.
She leaned in close—so close Kyle could smell the rich, intoxicating scent of ocean mist and night-blooming lotus radiating from her skin. Her violet eyes searched his face, tracking the dark, dormant lines of his demon mark, before her hand drifted downward, resting directly over his chest, right above his heart.
Her eyes widened slightly as she felt the triple-core rhythm pulsing beneath his ribs.
"Fascinating..." Seraphina whispered, her voice dropping into a sultry, dangerous purr that made the air in the hall grow thick. "A human body... harboring a dormant demon core, a shadow core, and a sleeping mana vessel. You are no ordinary mortal, little boy."
[Kyle, her aquatic resonance is attempting to probe your neural pathways,] Snow warned softly inside his head, her tone tinged with a sharp, defensive edge that sounded almost jealous. [I am blocking her spiritual probe, but she recognizes your potential. She knows you carry the key to the planet’s core.]
"Get your hands off him!" Yua roared from behind, straining against her guards so violently the floor cracked beneath her boots. "I will tear your throat out, Seraphina!"
Seraphina didn’t even glance at Yua. Her thumb gently traced the angle of Kyle’s jaw, her violet eyes burning with a sudden, predatory heat as she looked down into his dark, unwavering eyes.
"You seek the Heart of Kraken," Seraphina said softly, her voice carrying a quiet command that echoed through his soul. "You wish to pass through my domain to reach the core. Am I correct?"
Kyle held her gaze, refusing to flinch under her overwhelming pressure. "We have less than three days before the planetary decay collapses this sector. We need passage through the spring, and we need food and clean air for my people. Name your price."
Seraphina let out a low, musical laugh that sent ripples through the water surrounding her throne. She pulled her hand back slowly, leaning back into her seat as she crossed her elegant, violet-scaled tail.
"My price is quite simple, Kyle Conner," Seraphina purred, her eyes flashing with a wicked, possessive light. "You leave the vampire girl behind, and you take me as your royal consort."
The entire hall fell into a stunned, suffocating silence.
Yua froze, her blood turning to pure ice in her veins before a roar of unadulterated fury burst from her throat. "WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?!"
Kyle’s eyes narrowed, his brow furrowing. "A consort? What the hell are you talking about?"
Seraphina smiled—a slow, sensual, and thoroughly arrogant smile that showcased her flawless, pearl-white teeth.
"The Wandering Spring requires a strong king to anchor its mana line," Seraphina explained, her voice dropping into a heated, seductive murmur as she leaned forward once more, her violet eyes locking onto Kyle’s like a predator marking its prey. "For three hundred years, I have ruled alone, waiting for a warrior whose soul possessed enough raw, chaotic power to balance my aquatic tide. You carry dark flames and shadows, Kyle. You are the counter-weight I have been searching for."
She gestured toward the hovering water bubbles containing the refugees.
"Accept my offer," Seraphina continued, her voice laced with irresistible temptation. "Become my husband. Join your soul to mine, and I will personally deliver your forty-seven mortals to the Heart of Kraken under my full protection. I will feed them, give them clean water, and ensure their survival. But in return... you belong to me. Mind, body, and core."
Yua’s face was flushed with pure, agonizing rage and heartbreak. Tears of blood welled up in the corners of her eyes as she glared at the queen. "Kyle, don’t you dare listen to this arrogant creature! I would rather tear this entire palace down with my own hands than let her touch you!"
Seraphina flicked her wrist, and a water gag instantly sealed Yua’s mouth, muffling her furious screams as she thrashed against her restraints.
"Quiet, vampire," Seraphina said coldly, before turning her full, smoldering attention back to Kyle.
She slid down from her throne, her long, beautiful tail gliding over the pearl floor as she stepped into her land-form, her tail splitting into two long, breathtaking legs covered in delicate violet scales that shimmered under the light. She walked up to Kyle, kneeling down until her face was mere inches from his.
She reached out, running her cold, slender fingers through his dark hair, pulling his face closer until he could feel the warm, sweet heat of her breath against his lips.
"Well, Kyle Conner?" Seraphina whispered, her violet eyes burning with a dangerous, heated passion that demanded submission. "Will you save your pathetic refugees and accept your queen? Or will you watch them drown in my spring while your little pureblood pet watches helplessly?"
[Kyle,] Snow’s voice spoke inside his mind, unusually quiet, grounded, and intensely focused. [She is not bluffing. Her control over the spring is absolute. But her mana core is directly bound to the planet’s pulse. If you accept her contract... it will unlock your dormant Mana Core.]
Kyle looked at Seraphina’s gorgeous, lethal face, then shifted his gaze back to Yua, whose blood-red eyes were brimming with desperate, terrified tears, begging him with her gaze not to yield.
Kyle took a slow, deep breath, his dark eyes locking onto the Queen of the Wandering Spring with a cold, unyielding fire.
"You want a king, Seraphina?" Kyle rasped, his voice dropping into a low, dangerous growl that made the aquatic queen’s breath catch in her throat. "Then you better be prepared for the dark."
