Chapter 886: Chapter 877: Ending. Part 5
After sorting out her thoughts, she sent a message to Roy Lewis.
“Jayden Dunn has been arrested for his involvement in a cross-border homicide case from over 20 years ago. The evidence was found by you, right? And your hand was injured because of this?”
Roy Lewis had recently visited the country where her parents’ car accident had occurred.
Over the years, she had tried to find evidence herself but had no success due to the passage of time and lack of connections.
Roy Lewis didn’t reply to her, probably because he was busy.
In the evening, after having dinner with the three children, Richelle Dunn waited until they went out for a walk with their grandfather before searching Roy Lewis’ schedule during his visit online.
The more she searched, the more she felt that his trip abroad had also been for her sake.
Roy Lewis had not yet responded to her message because he was meeting with elite representatives from various industries and probably wouldn’t have time to respond until after the banquet that night.
Just as she was thinking this, her cell phone rang.
The caller was Roy Lewis.
“Richelle, I’m on my way back. We can talk when I return.”
Richelle noticed that his voice was a little more hoarse than usual. After hanging up, she prepared a cup of scrophularia tea for him.
Roy Lewis returned home in about half an hour. Since the matter they were going to discuss was serious, Richelle brought the tea and some refreshments into the study room with him.
Roy Lewis washed his face first. Then, Richelle handed him the scrophularia tea, motioning for him to take a few sips before speaking.
Roy Lewis drank several mouthfuls of the tea and felt it soothe his parched throat.
“Did you drink a lot?”
Roy Lewis coughed twice and cleared his throat.
“Not much, but I’ve been talking non-stop. My throat is sore.”
Richelle urged him to drink a few more sips of tea and take a break.
Roy Lewis shook his head and put down the cup.
“The evidence Mr. Jarvis has is indeed from me.”
Richelle stared at his hand, “Did you hurt your hand when you went to get the evidence?”
Seeing that he couldn’t hide it from her, Roy Lewis gave a wry smile.
“Yes, but I blame my slow reaction. In the past, they wouldn’t have even been able to scratch me, let alone hurt my hand.”
Richelle had mixed feelings, both for his concealment and for her own misunderstanding of him.
“Why didn’t you tell me the truth? Was it pleasant to be scolded and wronged by me?”
Roy Lewis held her close, rubbing his chin against her hair.
“When I got the evidence, I wasn’t sure if it would be enough to convict Jayden Dunn and his wife. In any case, it’s an old case involving another country. I was afraid that if I mentioned it to you and insufficient evidence was found later, your hopes would be dashed and you’d feel even worse.”
Richelle bit her lip, her eyes reddening.
“You big fool!”
Roy Lewis stroked her face, comforting her while explaining.
“After I came back, I handed the evidence to Mr. Jarvis, who then contacted the relevant authorities in Crostania as an enforcer to retrieve the case files and evidence pertaining to the accident. It took Mr. Jarvis a few days to complete the process and verify everything. At noon today, he informed me that the evidence was conclusive and that Jayden Dunn could be arrested. However, I was busy all day and didn’t have time to check my private messages, so I missed the opportunity to tell you the truth as soon as possible.”
Richelle muttered in resignation.
“Forget it, I’m not going to argue with you. How many days will Mr. Jarvis’ interrogation take?”
“On my way back, I asked Mr. Jarvis. He said that Jayden Dunn won’t admit to anything.”
Richelle was worried, “Is the evidence really enough to make him pay with his life?”
After more than 20 years, could the evidence they found really condemn him to death?
“Yes, there is a tape recording of Jayden Dunn ordering the murder over the phone. In the recording, the way Jayden Dunn described the crime was consistent with the circumstances of your parents’ car accident. Of course, it’s difficult to verify the authenticity of the voice, so Mr. Jarvis negotiated with the relevant authorities in Crostania to have the evidence, case files, and objects transferred back to our country. With multiple corroborating pieces of evidence, he won’t be able to deny his guilt.”
Upon hearing this, Richelle let out a sigh of relief.
“Roy Lewis, thank you!”
Although Jayden Dunn hasn’t been convicted yet, the fact that Mr. Jarvis personally went to arrest him meant that there was an 80 or 90 percent certainty.
Roy Lewis turned her around, and his dark eyes were filled with endless affection.
“Richelle, I hope we can have a perfect wedding!”
However, Richelle’s parents had died inexplicably, and Jayden Dunn had occupied everything that should have belonged to her parents for more than twenty years with no repercussions. This was a huge regret for Richelle.
Now, as Jayden was about to face justice, Richelle’s grievances and resentment were soon to be resolved.
“Roy Lewis, besides our three children, this is the best gift anyone could have given me. Thank you!”
Roy lowered his head and kissed her, holding her tightly.
Though, because of that tape, his hand had nearly been crippled.
But if she could avenge this deep hatred, it was worth the injury!
…
The next day, Richelle returned to the hospital as usual. Dr. Bailes, the assistant assigned by Mr. Chapman, handed her Dylan Collins’ updated examination report.
After quickly scanning the content, she instructed her assistant.
“Arrange for him to be transferred to another hospital tomorrow. You’ll accompany him and stay for one day to hand over the work to the new doctor.”
Dr. Bailes agreed, took the report, and left.
Richelle’s mind was still occupied with Jayden’s situation, and she hesitated whether to call Mr. Jarvis to inquire about the progress.
In her hesitation, Mr. Jarvis called her first.
“Dr. Dunn, I heard from Dylan that he can be transferred back to our People’s Hospital tomorrow. Thank you for your hard work.”
“Mr. Jarvis, you’re being too polite. Saving lives is my duty.”
“That’s not how you should put it. You’ve both contributed financially and personally. If it weren’t for you, Dylan would likely have been in greater danger.”
Throughout the process, Richelle remained calm and composed.
“In the end, it’s still up to him to have a strong will and determination. For patients with such severe conditions as his, the suffering during recovery may be even more painful than that of the surgery.”
After chatting about Dylan’s situation for a bit, Mr. Jarvis changed the subject.
“That person is still stubbornly refusing to admit anything. But don’t worry, we’ll wear him down slowly.”
Mr. Jarvis didn’t specify who he was referring to, but Richelle knew he was talking about Jayden.
“Alright, thank you for your hard work!”
“Serving the people is our duty, so Dr. Dunn, you don’t need to be so polite.”
Though she said this, Richelle knew that handling international cases was complicated.
Even though Roy had obtained the key evidence, if Mr. Jarvis hadn’t subsequently made arrangements to transfer all the evidence back to their jurisdiction, a single tape would not have been enough to convict Jayden.
With the assurance of a professional like Mr. Jarvis, Richelle put her anxieties to rest.
Mr. Jarvis told her to wait for good news, so she went about her other tasks with peace of mind.
Not long after hanging up on Mr. Jarvis’ call, Sonia Seaton’s video call came through.
Richelle guessed that her mentor was calling about Isabelle Bailes.
After hesitating for a few seconds, she picked up the call.
“Master, what’s the matter?”
“Is there a problem with that girl, Isabelle?”
Richelle didn’t like to gossip, but she was afraid that her master would be taken advantage of. She briefly explained Isabelle’s behavior during a conference with Mr. Chapman.
Upon hearing this, Sonia Seaton was somewhat infuriated.
“How can this child be so lacking in understanding?”
Sonia was reluctantly fond of talent—professionally, Isabelle was truly outstanding.
“Master, this is not her being foolish. She’s very clear-minded, and her actions are targeted, indicating that she prefers taking shortcuts.”
