Chapter 314: Finding The Giant Ruins

A mischievous glint passed through Rion's eyes and he stepped closer to the shadowy entity.

<Why haven't you returned?> he asked, his tone slightly furious to sell his theatrics.

The entity shivered and asked in confusion, <R-Return? Where, My Lord?>

Hearing the answer, Rion frowned. 'I had hoped he would just blurt out the location of the God of Shadows.'

'Guess he doesn't know it either.' Rion sighed and continued.

<Forget that. Have you checked the site to make sure no one has found it?>

Suddenly, the shadowy entity fell silent and the next moment, it fell to Rion's feet.

<I-I apologise, My Lord!!>

Seeing that, Rion breathed a sigh of relief. He had expected that his last question had made the entity guess that he wasn't the God of Shadows but his worries were unfounded.

<Take me to it,> Rion commanded.

The shadowy entity slowly nodded its head and said, <As you wish, My Lord.>

All of a sudden, the shadowy entity which had been invisible to the naked eye became visible and Rion blinked in surprise.

The shadowy entity was actually a woman with hair and eyes similar to Selva Thorne.

Rion turned his head toward Selva's older brother and asked, <Is that person related to you?>

Hearing the words in his head, the innkeeper finally understood that the staring competition between Rion and the shadowy entity for the past few minutes had actually been a conversation within their minds.

He lowered his head and the answer slipped through his lips in a low voice, "She is my mother..."

Rion blinked in surprise and remarked inwardly, 'So they've been making use of parental love to brainwash them...'

A cold glint passed through Rion's eyes but for now he clamed down and commanded, "Let's go."

The woman rose to her feet with her head still bowed and suddenly she looked at Rion with extremely cold eyes.

"What's wrong?" Rion asked.

The woman shivered and muttered, "I do not think you need me to show you the way... My Lord."

It was clear that she was having doubts about Rion being the God of Shadows but it didn't matter. Seeing how thoroughly the God of Shadows had done everything, Rion was sure that Shadow wasn't kind to his people.

Rion took a step forward and stopped just an inch away from her.

His gaze drifted to her trembling shoulders and he leaned forward.

The woman felt as though a beast had set its eyes on her but before she could say or move away, Rion whispered in her ear,

"I do not remember asking for your opinion. Are you so worthless that you cannot even show me the way?"

"N-No..." she stammered, her face pale in terror.

"Then why are you still standing here?" He asked, his tone chillingly sharp.

"I-I apologise." The woman immediately took a few steps back and said, "L-Let's go."

Rion pushed back a smile threatening to appear and nodded.

The two of them left the inn and just as Rion stepped out, the innkeeper ran forward and called out in shock, "Mot—"

However, before he could finish. Yuura appeared behind him.

White lightning crackled around his body and he landed a chop to the back of the innkeeper's head.

The innkeeper's eyes rolled upward and he fell to the ground like a soft toy.

Yuura watched Rion leave and a smooth voice filled the room. "Seems like our journey is about to come to an end."

Yuura's gaze shifted to Zaelyane sitting in the shadowy entity's chair and he nodded. "Yeah..."

Rion and Selva's mother walked through the streets of the capital and they soon entered the slums where he had first appeared in the city.

They walked and walked and after half an hour, they stopped before a broken shack however something was strange about this supposedly shack.

Rion stepped closer and placed a hand.

'I can't sense this place... and it's not leaving a space in My Zone either...' He frowned. 'What is this?'

"Let us enter, My Lord," the woman said as she opened the door and gestured to him to go in.

Rion nodded faintly and stepped inside.

Just as he did so, his Zone shrank, and he could no longer sense the outside world however he could now sense the inside of this place as well as the staircase leading to the underground chamber.

Without wasting any time, Rion began to descend the staircase and the woman followed behind him.

After a few minutes, they reached the end of the staircase and upon seeing the scene before, he frowned.

The whole place was empty, it had nothing at all.

The woman stepped beside him and asked in a confused tone, "Why did you stop, My Lord?"

'What is she talking about?' Rion mumbled inwardly. Confusion filled him and he looked down.

There was no surface before him but as he looked down, he saw a surface and as he looked further, that surface also ended, followed by a different yet similar one.

'This... this is a staircase?' His eyes widened in disbelief and he took a step forward.

As he did so, he began to fall down however suddenly he slowed down mid-air and landed softly on the next staircase.

The two of them walked over to the next stair and Rion concluded, 'It's a giant staircase but why was it normal at the top? Is it because they were made after this?'

One by one they descended the steps and after a couple of hours, Rion and the woman passed a dimly lit tunnel and stopped before giant gates adorned with luminescent crystals.

Seeing the gates, Rion halted.

"How...?" The word left him before he could stop it and upon hearing it, the woman asked, "Is something wrong, My Lord?"

"Nothing." Rion shook his head and his gaze drifted between the scarring marks covering the gates.

They were marks from a spear and each one of them was the style belonging to Azure Ascending Spear.
