Chapter 595: Don't Be in a Hurry
A waiter pushed open a pair of heavy doors and gestured for Melody Monroe to enter.
“Miss Monroe, we’ve arrived.”
Melody Monroe walked in, a confused look on her face.
Suddenly, the doors shut behind her, making her jump!
There was no one here!
Then, all the lights went out.
A single beam of light shone down on her, like a spotlight on a stage. Beyond her, everything was pitch black.
Although she couldn’t see her surroundings, she wasn’t nervous or afraid at all anymore.
She slowly walked forward, the spotlight following her steps.
She still couldn’t see anything around her or get her bearings, but she could sense a familiar presence very, very close by.
Suddenly, the light went out. Before Melody Monroe could react, she fell into a searing hot embrace.
“I knew it was you.”
Evan Fairchild held her tightly as the wall sconces slowly brightened, faintly revealing their surroundings.
In the center of the room was a long dining table, with lit candles in exquisite candelabras.
A large bouquet of fresh flowers was set at one of the places.
To one side, there was a piano.
The two of them just held each other, tight, unwilling to let go.
“I thought you were still abroad.”
“I came back early.”
“To celebrate me wrapping up my scenes?”
“No.”
“No?” Melody Monroe looked up at him, confused. “Then what for?”
“I learned how to dance.”
Melody Monroe looked completely baffled, then couldn’t help but laugh. “What does learning to dance have to do with you coming back early?”
Evan Fairchild suddenly released Melody Monroe, taking one of her hands in his and placing his other on her back.
“Follow my lead.”
As he led her, Melody felt like her feet were getting tangled. She accidentally stepped on his foot.
“I stepped on your foot.”
“Relax. Follow my steps.”
“Okay.” Melody Monroe nodded.
It actually wasn’t that hard to learn. After a short while, they found their rhythm, and she stopped stepping on his feet.
Suddenly, Evan Fairchild lifted her up, like he was lifting a child. Her feet left the ground, and Melody Monroe, a little scared, quickly gripped his shoulders.
He spun around with her in his arms. Melody Monroe felt like the whole world was spinning, as if she were flying.
After a few turns, Evan Fairchild stopped, and Melody Monroe clung to him tightly.
He didn’t put her down yet. Instead, he carried her over to the piano and set her down on top of it.
Melody Monroe sat there, looking at Evan Fairchild.
He sat down, his long, slender fingers resting on the keys.
“You can play the piano?”
“Just learned.”
Melody Monroe watched his practiced fingerwork, finding it incredible. ‘Just learned? How could he play so well? I’ve never heard this piece before.’
But it was, without a doubt, the most beautiful piano piece she had ever heard.
Evan Fairchild lifted his hands, the last notes still echoing in the air. Melody Monroe was still lost in the music when Evan suddenly stood up and walked over to her.
Melody Monroe watched him, unable to stop herself from swallowing.
“What are you thinking about?”
“I was thinking… you were… about to kiss me,” Melody Monroe answered, her face blushing.
“I’ve been wanting to, desperately, since the moment you walked in.”
Melody Monroe tugged on his clothes, pulling him a little closer, and leaned in toward him.
Evan Fairchild suddenly dodged, making her lunge at empty air.
A wave of embarrassment washed over Melody Monroe. She pouted, looking at him with dissatisfaction.
“Not so fast.”
Hearing those three words, Melody Monroe’s face turned even redder. She quickly retorted, “I’m not the one who’s impatient! You’re the one who said you wanted to.” The second half of her sentence trailed off, growing quieter and quieter.
