"Don’t you tell me what to do!" Mrs. Hughes shot back. "Who do you think I’m doing this for? I’m doing it for you!"

Christopher Sterling was about to step in and help Rose Shaw when another figure beat him to it.

Keith Coleman suddenly walked over and stood in front of Mrs. Hughes.

"You have a heart condition? Funny. I’m sick, too!"

Mrs. Hughes froze. Seeing Keith Coleman’s appearance, she instinctively took a step back.

"Who are you?"

"Rose’s ex-boyfriend."

"You? You’re Rose Shaw’s ex-boyfriend? What are you doing here?"

"Can’t get over her!" Keith shot back with a smile. "Just had to see for myself if my Rose had gone blind or lost her mind, picking a man like that to marry."

"You don’t want to live anymore, right? Great, me neither. So what’ll it be? Jumping off the roof? Running into a wall? We can do it together. Ladies first. I’ll be right behind you!"

Mrs. Hughes: ...

"Oh, right. I need to write a suicide note. ’I’m dying because of your son!’"

"If you want to die, why drag my son into it? What does this have to do with my son?"

"Of course it’s related! If he hadn’t stolen my Rose, if he hadn’t given her so much trouble, why would I be looking to die? Isn’t that your whole act, too? If you really don’t want to live, nobody can stop you. But trying to drag someone down with you just for the hell of it? That’s not so simple!"

Mrs. Hughes was too furious to speak.

"Rose already made it perfectly clear. The engagement is off, and there’s no way she’s marrying Felix Hughes. They’ve broken up. Got it? As of right now, she and Felix Hughes have absolutely nothing to do with each other!"

"Rose, let’s go," Melody Monroe said, pulling Rose Shaw toward the exit.

"Rose Shaw, stop!" Mrs. Hughes suddenly shouted.

Keith Coleman suddenly blocked her way.

Mrs. Hughes looked at him, not daring to push past. In the blink of an eye, Rose Shaw had walked out.

"Felix, are you dead? Why aren’t you stopping Rose Shaw?"

"Mom, stop making a scene! This is between me and Rose Shaw."

"Get out of my way! Don’t block me!"

"Ma’am, look at me. I’m covered in injuries. I’m telling you, if you so much as touch me, I’m going down. My bones are all broken. They might not heal right, and I could end up permanently disabled or something! You’d have to pay up, you know!"

"You’re just trying to scam me!"

"That’s right. I love scamming people," Keith Coleman admitted bluntly.

His words left Mrs. Hughes speechless, her chest tightening with rage. ’How did I run into someone so shameless!’

...

Rose Shaw and Melody Monroe walked out, then suddenly stopped.

"Rose, what’s wrong?"

"Keith is in there all by himself. Will he be okay?" Rose Shaw asked, worried. "He’s so badly injured, he can’t even move around easily."

"He can handle it." For some reason, when it came to dealing with loud, unreasonable women, Melody Monroe had unshakeable faith in Keith Coleman.

"Winter Kane, stay behind and give Keith Coleman a ride later," Melody Monroe instructed, turning to Winter Kane. ’It really is a bit heartless to just leave him here alone,’ she thought.

"Got it," Winter Kane replied, turning and heading back inside.

Melody Monroe, Rose Shaw, and Talia Mercer left together.

"Rose, why don’t you come to my place? I’m worried about you going home alone."

"Okay," Rose Shaw nodded.

Keith Coleman saw Winter Kane walk back in and knew Rose had left for good.

"So, you’ve decided not to die? Funny, I just had a change of heart myself. Life is too good, what a waste it would be to die! You should look on the bright side too, ma’am. Just let Director Hughes find another wife. I’m sure she’ll give you two grandchildren in three years, no problem! But if you’re dead, you won’t be holding any grandkids, now will you!"
