This was a case that couldn’t be won, no matter who took it.

Given the severity of the situation, a sentence of at least ten years was a certainty.

And the charge Claire Ross had brought against Raymond Ford was attempted murder! If the charge stuck, Raymond Ford could be facing life in prison.

All the lawyer could do now was fight to have the charge reduced to malicious assault.

Because the case was contentious, the judge didn’t deliver a verdict on the spot, instead scheduling a new hearing for two weeks later. In the meantime, both sides could still submit new evidence.

Since Raymond Ford’s intentional assault was an established fact, she was about to be taken into custody.

Stellaris had already announced the termination of its contract with Raymond Ford.

Seeing the footage of Raymond Ford being led away, the public let out a collective sigh.

Rhona Hughes saw the footage online and stared blankly for a long time before Wendy came to stand in front of her.

"Rhona, do you see Raymond Ford’s true colors now? Her being nice to you, getting close to you—it was always because she wanted to use you. Think back. When we were filming Warm Wind, you were furious at Melody Monroe for not getting the second female lead. If Raymond Ford hadn’t said something, would you have even thought of targeting Melody Monroe?"

Rhona Hughes was speechless.

"This time was no different. When she told you to compete for the Best Newcomer Award, she had ulterior motives. People’s actions are watched by the heavens; this is Raymond Ford’s just desserts. She was already this conniving back when she was in college. Just think, what if that woman—Claire Ross—had never found evidence? What then? Raymond Ford would have gotten away scot-free!"

"Melody Monroe was in her way, so she targeted her. What if you had been the one blocking her path? Do you think she wouldn’t have come after you, too?"

Rhona Hughes had no answer.

"Whoever Melody Monroe’s sponsor is, they’re not someone nobodies like us can afford to cross. We have to hope Melody noticed nothing about what happened before. If she did..."

A knot of fear tightened in Rhona Hughes’s chest. "She couldn’t have noticed, right?"

"My brother is still locked up. I can’t help but feel anxious."

"You never should have sent your brother to Eileen Scott!"

Wendy was speechless.

’So now she finally gets it. Now she’s feeling regretful. I just hope... I really hope it’s not too late.’

...

An iron door, a simple bed, a cell only a few square meters in size.

Raymond Ford sat on the bed, curled up in a corner.

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps echoed from outside. She immediately lifted her head and looked toward the door.

"Raymond Ford, you have a visitor."

"Who’s here to see me?"

"You’ll know when you see them."

Raymond Ford was led to another room. Inside, a person sat at a table and chair, their back turned to her. The guard who brought her in had already retreated, closing the door behind him.

The two of them were left alone in the room.

"Who are you?" Raymond Ford asked. The person before her was a stranger; she was sure she didn’t know him.

Keith Coleman turned around to face Raymond Ford.

Raymond Ford recognized him instantly. "It’s you?"

"Aren’t you grateful? To have fallen this low, and yet someone still comes to visit you?" Keith Coleman asked with a smile, leaning back in his chair and casually crossing his legs.

"What do you want with me?" Raymond Ford asked, full of suspicion.

"Do you want to live?"

"What do you mean by that?"

"You think that little lawyer you hired has what it takes?"

Panic immediately seized Raymond Ford.

’She was terrified. What if the lawyer had been bought off? What if he didn’t care whether she lived or died? Then she really could be convicted of attempted murder!’
