Jiang did not answer his old voice.

The dry recovery clock still showed twenty-nine minutes and forty-six seconds. His new center of mass remained untested, the wake-keel wound had lengthened, and the spirit seam had opened beside a physical route he could no longer enter.

Speaking could wait until the body stopped changing.

Jiang remained on the settlement stone. “Observation, memory, soul, identity, and control stay separate.”
