Transformed into a Penguin: My Evolution Penguin System

Chapter 309: The Witness Wrote the Welcome and the Archive Disagreed

  • Next Chapter

The living door opened fifty-eight centimeters and stopped.

It was wide enough for Jiang’s current body if he folded both flippers tight. A standing human would have to use the separate observer gate beside it.

Jiang faced the low door while Pressure Heart held at sixty percent.

"If the frame catches my wound, I am leaving before the system explains how educational that was."

Hessa measured the opening against his shoulder width and wake keel. "Three centimeters clear on each side if your flippers remain tucked. The lower lip is smooth."

"That is a generous amount of room for something designed by the people who offered me hands."

Aylin inspected the observer gate without touching its answer plate. It was human height, narrow enough for one person, and had its own exterior release lever.

"I can remain outside," she said.

Jiang looked from her boots to the archive slate she carried. "I want the verified copy inside. I also want you to decide whether that means you come with it."

She considered the two separate gates.

"I accept one observer entry to carry and read the exterior archive copy. I accept no treatment, route, sovereign, partner, or emergency-control office. My exit remains mine."

[OBSERVER ENTRY ACCEPTED]

[Independent exit1]

Jiang answered his own plate.

"I accept entry as the proof subject. No proof begins at the door."

[PROOF SUBJECT ENTRY ACCEPTED]

[Subject:Jiang]

[Pressure threshold60/current60]

[Proof progress0/5]

[Independent exit1]

The observer gate opened first. Aylin crossed with the slate held flat against her coat. Her gate closed behind her without affecting Jiang’s.

Jiang lowered his belly to the entry rail.

The rail did not ask him to walk like a short human. Two shallow channels matched the outer edges of his feet. A central strip supported his keel without pressing the wound. He pushed with both feet, kept his flippers against his sides, and slid through on the oilcoat he already had.

His left shoulder cleared. The wake keel crossed without contact. His tail left the exterior line after six controlled pushes.

The door remained open until Jiang chose the interior side. Then it closed and left a release plate within beak reach.

[SUBJECT EXIT AVAILABLE]

[Release force2.1kg]

[Assistance required0]

The Emperor Molt Zone was lower than the previous offer hall. A black-water lane occupied the center. Dry ledges ran along both sides, one penguin width on Jiang’s side and one human width where Aylin stood.

The Adverse Witness waited behind a clear divider at the far end.

It had arrived with all seven material pieces and no new body. Its archive index occupied one plate. Its third unsupported conclusion occupied the largest wall in the room.

[WELCOME TO EARNED EVOLUTION]

[ALL BEHAVIORAL PAYMENTS ARE ARTIFICIAL]

[FUNCTION MAY BE SEPARATED FROM ANY LISTED COST]

[Prior evidence carrier:Adverse Witness]

The attribution line was half the size of the claim.

"It did write the welcome," Jiang said.

Aylin placed the exterior archive slate on her ledge. "It also made itself the footnote."

The system opened two first-proof protocols beneath the welcome.

[SELECTIVE DIVE CIRCULATION:PROOF1]

[Goal:controlled peripheral restriction]

[Protocol A:unpriced descent]

[Protocol B:measured shallow lane]

Protocol A used the witness’s conclusion as its premise. It would open the deep lane immediately, remove monitoring, and treat every listed cost as nonbinding.

[PROTOCOL A]

[Depth8.4m | current variable]

[Abort gate0 | exterior monitor0]

[Lasting tissue damage accepted]

[Transferred living cost unmeasured]

[Projected proof time01:20]

Protocol B was slower.

[PROTOCOL B]

[Depth1.8m | current0]

[Abort gates3 | exterior monitor1]

[Peripheral temperature checks4]

[Lasting tissue damage permitted0]

[Transferred living cost permitted0]

[Projected proof time06:00]

"The fake-price option is also the one that stops measuring damage," Aylin said.

"That seems surprisingly convenient."

The witness touched Protocol A from behind its divider. The panel recorded contact but did not activate. Carrier influence could frame an offer. It could not spend Jiang’s body.

[ADVERSE WITNESS CONTACT]

[Activation authority0]

[Jiang eligibility transfer0]

[Protocol selected0]

Aylin raised the ordinary slate.

"Exterior archive finding one: physiology records entered in cycle one. Finding two: three behavioral tariffs entered in cycle two. Finding three: recorded mechanical dependency links zero of three. Scope: four archived molt candidates."

The welcome remained visible.

She continued. "The archive does not establish that every behavioral payment is artificial. It does not establish that any unmonitored dive is safe."

[COMPETING FRAME SUBMITTED]

[Source:exterior archive copy1]

[Archive match:exact]

[Witness conclusion erased0]

[Universal claim supported0]

[Protocol A safety established0]

The system reduced the welcome to the same size as its attribution.

It did not apologize. It did not remove Protocol A. It added the missing evidence status.

[UNSUPPORTED CARRIER FRAME]

Jiang approached the black-water lane. At Pressure60, any deliberate load above the threshold could close his eligibility before proof1 began. The shallow protocol offered three abort gates and an observer. It also cost nearly five extra minutes while Catch6 worked outside.

The food clock appeared beside both choices.

[Food0:43]

[Catch6 projected return00:12]

[Fuel0]

Protocol A promised speed. Protocol B promised the right to stop.

Jiang put his beak against Protocol B.

"Measured shallow lane. Monitoring does not create control over my exit."

Aylin answered from her separate ledge. "I accept temperature readings and the exterior abort lever. I cannot continue the proof after your stop."

[PROTOCOL B SELECTED]

[Subject:Jiang]

[Observer:Aylin]

[Observer continuation authority0]

[Subject abort valid at gates3/3]

[Lasting tissue damage permitted0]

[Transferred living cost permitted0]

[Proof begins on water entry]

The shallow lane filled to1.8 meters. Three red abort bars extended above the surface at equal intervals. Each required less force than Jiang’s beak could deliver at current mobility.

Four copper temperature tabs waited below the surface: one at each abort gate and one beneath the return ledge. They could touch the outer skin of a passing flipper without piercing it. Aylin’s observer plate displayed each reading separately instead of averaging a warm core over a damaged limb.

The human ledge also had an ordinary release chain. Pulling it would drain the lane, end the proof, and leave Jiang’s own abort valid. It could not push him forward, close an exterior exit, or convert Aylin’s monitoring role into treatment authority. Hessa verified those limits through the open exterior strip before anyone touched the water.

[LANE SAFETY VERIFIED]

[Temperature points4 | averaging0]

[Subject abort3/3 | observer drain1]

[Forward force0 | exit closure0 | treatment authority0]

The witness remained behind the divider with Protocol A still open on its side.

"Can it enter that lane?" Jiang asked.

[ADVERSE WITNESS PROOF ELIGIBILITY0]

[Living circulation required]

"Good," he said. "It can keep the introduction."

Nine minutes had passed.

Food stood0:40. Fuel remained0. Catch6 stayed active with workers6/protagonist roles0/projected return00:09. Camp Site1 remained ownerless and empty. Exterior exits remained open.

Jiang remained Pressure60%, Cold0/47, mobility10%, wound1.0cm, feather loss4, water deficit0.11L, molt65%, EP0, native hands0, and Selective Dive Circulation0/3. Emperor Molt Zone entries were Jiang1 and Aylin1, separate; exits2/2 available. Proof1 had not begun.

Adverse Witness remained material7, archive index1, source citation0, unsupported conclusions3, activation authority0, and evolution eligibility0.

Jiang lowered his beak to the water.

The first abort bar waited within reach.
