One appeared on Hessa’s slate. The other remained inside the Unchosen Witness, where three unsupported conclusions already sat beside four accurate offer records and one measured rescue outcome.

Hostile self required a self and hostile intent. The witness had demonstrated neither.

Jiang looked at the last position. "Adverse witness means it can be wrong in public."

"It means its evidence and conclusions can oppose yours without becoming yours," Aylin said.

"That sounds inconveniently fair."

Black-Crown’s caller and Split-Beak’s caller remained outside the classification line. Neither rookery had accepted a new cooperation role. The human residents held no keeper position. Aylin had no route office, and Jiang had no authority over the construct.

Hessa entered the narrowest supported answer.

The departure line brightened under the witness.

Jiang could block the narrow throat with his body. At ten-percent mobility and a one-centimeter wake-keel wound, he could still place enough mass across the entrance to stop seven clear pieces from passing.

Doing so would create a detention without a keeper, an ending condition, or an affected party’s request. The construct had no right to command them. They had no existing right to imprison it.

That did not make its departure harmless.

"If it reaches the molt archive first, what can it change?" Jiang asked.

The system answered with a short risk table.

The witness selected the route by comparison. The archive lay ahead. Outside lay a verified correction it had already ranked below the open rail.

Aylin crouched near him again, outside every route mark. "Can your heart fall four points without Huddle or an offer?"

Jiang checked the load. Pressure remained sixty-four. The system displayed no guaranteed recovery rate, only a requirement and the route his adverse witness had entered first.

"We measure it," he said. "Then we decide what rest costs when nobody turns it into obedience."

Six minutes had passed since the archive return.
