Chapter 1405: Chapter 1405: So It Really Was You?!

Cold anger flashed in Andrew Kennedy’s eyes. "So it really was you?!"

Realizing what he’d misunderstood, Aurelia Shaw gave an indifferent little laugh. "You didn’t block my career path, why would I go after you? This kind of tied?up hype does nothing for me. Someone sent the photos to the paper, and I know people at that paper. I wanted to drag out whoever’s trying to screw me, so I staged this little show."

Aurelia laid it out briefly and to the point.

"I’ll destroy today’s negatives. This photo is the last one—you can delete it."

Andrew mulled over what she’d said. The two of them really had no conflict of interest; she had no reason to target him.

"Who’s the one behind it?" Since they’d used him, they were definitely his enemy too.

Aurelia just smiled, sly as a fox. "I’ve got other plans. But don’t worry, it absolutely won’t affect you."

Andrew opened his mouth to ask something, but in the end said nothing.

She was even more cunning than he’d imagined.

Women who are too scheming can be annoying, but a smart, beautiful woman—there isn’t a man alive who doesn’t like that.

He hadn’t noticed a thing, yet she’d thought so many steps ahead. The whole "I know people at the paper" bit—Andrew didn’t really buy it. She even had eyes inside the newspaper.

Aurelia Shaw was anything but simple.

The Shaw Family had gone bankrupt and everyone thought she’d lost her backing, but clearly her power and background had never depended on the Shaw Family.

Andrew chuckled. Not only did he not resent her, he actually looked at her with even more respect.

Andrew deleted the photo and glanced at the dishes on the table.

"Are we still eating this meal?"

His tone held helplessness and frustration. Aurelia couldn’t help laughing. "Of course. We paid for it, why wouldn’t we eat? Same deal as before—this meal’s on me."

Andrew laughed too.

Aurelia thought for a moment. "Andrew, when they wanted to leak stuff about you, I knew. I only managed to suppress one item—about you coming to M Nation..."

Andrew got it.

Aurelia went on, "It’s not that I deliberately chose not to suppress it, um... It doesn’t affect you much. If you manage to sign smoothly, a bit of early buzz isn’t bad. If you don’t, you can just not respond at all."

Andrew smiled. "In your eyes, do you really think I wouldn’t be able to figure even that out?"

"Oh yeah?" Aurelia said with a smile.

Thinking how he’d suspected her too, Andrew felt a twinge of guilt.

In a certain villa, Alison came home and flew into a rage, smashing cups and vases until the floor was a wreck.

Her agent stood to the side, not daring to speak.

Alison had a nasty temper; when she got mad she liked to smash things, and when she was furious she’d even hit her. But the pay was good, so she put up with it.

Right now the agent was also afraid Alison would turn her anger on her.

"Useless trash! I give you a tiny job and you still manage to screw it up!"

Alison slapped the agent across the face.

The agent seethed but didn’t dare say a word.

Just then, a woman in lavish, elegant clothes came down the stairs. Her figure was sensual, and though she was older, her charm was intact. Time hadn’t left many marks on her face, and she looked strikingly similar to Aurelia Shaw’s missing stepmother, Clara Philips—only more seductive.

She stroked Alison’s cheek. "My darling girl, don’t rush. We’re in the dark, she’s out in the open. Besides, M Nation is our turf. As long as Aurelia Shaw is still in M Nation, there’s no way she’ll slip out of our grasp."

Alison’s expression finally eased. She gripped the woman’s hand. "Mommy, that little slut Aurelia had someone shoot those kinds of photos of me. Damn her, she’s trying to splash filth all over me!"

A vicious chill flashed in Alison’s eyes; she’d completely forgotten she was the one who schemed against Aurelia first, and Aurelia was just striking back.
