Aurelia’s wariness was obvious in her eyes. Mason Nightshade was momentarily stunned, not intending to scare her, explained: “It’s inconvenient for you to undress, let me help you.”

“No need.”

She had nothing to do with Mason Nightshade anymore; doing this made Aurelia uncomfortable.

“I can do it myself, you… you go out.”

Mason Nightshade stood motionless at the door.

Aurelia remained insistent.

Mason Nightshade was the first to admit defeat, sighing helplessly, “Aurelia, what are you afraid of? I’m just worried about you and won’t do anything to hurt you. I won’t touch you at a time like this. What exactly are you afraid of? Could it be that we can’t even do this now?”

Thinking about this, Mason’s heart twisted painfully.

Keeping her by force was a tactic he used, because he truly didn’t want them to part like this.

Looking back on their time together in the passage, Mason still lingered over those moments.

If she hadn’t gotten hurt, the food in the tunnel could have lasted them over a week.

He would have hidden with her there for more than a week.

Just the two of them…

Mason didn’t care about the life or death of others; from beginning to end, she was the only one in his eyes.

What did the life or death of others matter to him?

Even the people in the squad, he wanted to abandon them all, just because his woman still cared.

His woman cared about his reputation, cared about his standing and trust in front of subordinates, wanting to preserve that for him, so for her, he was willing to care about these things as well.

“No, it’s just…” just that they had come this far, were they really going to abandon it all now?

Mason Nightshade touched Aurelia’s face, “There’s an automatic defense system outside the villa. During the night, no one is guarding here, it’s only you and me, can’t we even…? ℯ

Sigh, Aurelia, be good, let me hug you, okay?”

Aurelia pressed her lips together, torn inside.

Mason Nightshade then reached out and pulled her into his embrace, resting his chin on her head, releasing a satisfied sigh.

He carefully washed her body, then carried Aurelia out and placed her on the soft, large bed.

Aurelia’s heart tightened.

Thinking he intended to do something, she pressed her hand against his chest but was scooped up, placed on his lap, and tightly embraced.

He extended his long arm to grab the remote and turn on the TV.

The sound from the television played.

Neither of them paid much attention to it.

Aurelia looked down at her phone, browsing the latest entertainment news until she fell asleep.

When Mason looked over at Aurelia, he saw her eyelashes delicately hanging, her small face slightly flushed, and her chin sharper, thinner than the last time he saw her.

The sky was growing dark, thick with silence outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, overly tranquil.

Mason gazed at Aurelia with mixed emotions, his eyes were excessively deep, and in the depths of his dark pupils, her slender body was reflected, a flash of pain cutting through his eyes.

“Girl, have I only brought you pain?”

He had promised to make her happy, sworn that this life, he would never let her worry again.

Sigh.

He always broke his promises.

Sometimes Mason wondered if they were truly unsuited to be together. Yet, whenever he thought of letting her go, seeing her with another man, laughing and being gentle to someone else, his mood affecting because of someone else…he felt a murderous impulse!

When Aurelia woke, she found the bed beside her empty. Mason was dressing, and upon seeing her awake, he smiled indulgently, “Freshen up and get up, I’ll go make breakfast.”

Mason went downstairs.
