Chapter 1385: Chapter 1385: What Great Sins We’ve Committed
Aurelia Shaw felt a faint thread of hope rise in her heart when she heard this.
Every time the toxins flared up, it was when her emotions ran high.
Keeping them in her body was a burden.
The experiences from her previous life had made her hate having weaknesses.
"She’ll find a way, but clearing the residual toxins isn’t something that can be done in a short time. We’ll need to monitor your condition constantly, so staying here is the best option for you."
Mason Nightshade’s heart started beating with a nervous tremor. He didn’t want to hand down a death sentence on her. He would definitely purge the toxins from her body; even if he had to wipe out the entire Mafia, he would get the antidote from them!
There was no need to tell Aurelia this. She only needed to live like a Princess.
"I’ll find someone to clear the toxins for me. As for the Mafia people... I have my own way of dealing with them."
What Aurelia was thinking, however, was nothing like Mason’s thoughts.
Let Junia Simpson take care of her? She already owed them more than enough. They’d just saved her life—how could she still dare to expect Junia to come tend to her, treat her?
She and Junia might not be enemies, but she had, after all, indirectly caused the deaths of her friends and brothers—people who had gone through life and death with her.
Because she understood how important those people were, Aurelia was all the less willing to make that kind of choice.
A streak of blood-red flashed in Mason’s eyes. His gaze at Aurelia turned cold, his darkened face becoming icily restrained. "You want to go back to him? This whole incident is very likely connected to him. Vespera Bennett is his person. With his methods, there’s no way he’d place an unreliable woman at your side. He himself is Mafia—how can you be sure this has nothing to do with him?"
"I know." Aurelia said.
"And you still want to go back to him?" Mason felt like his heart had been torn out and stabbed hard. Every breath made his entire chest throb with a dull ache!
"I trust him..."
Looking at Mason’s suddenly pale face, Aurelia’s lips moved, but the second half of the sentence never came out.
Her brows knitted as she thought about how to say it without hurting Mason.
"Alaric Wood to me... Mason, he’s different. I owe him a lot. Even if he really wanted my life... he’d have every right to take it. About this matter, I want to confront him face to face."
Even if he really wanted my life, he’d have every right to take it.
How could she say something like that!
"You are not allowed to go!"
Mason pulled Aurelia into his arms, his forearms tightening around her waist. "You’re not allowed to go anywhere. I won’t allow it. You won’t get past this door. You’re not going anywhere!"
Aurelia was about to say something when the corner of her eye caught Mason’s hands—his fingers clenched into fists, trembling from the force. Veins bulged along his arms, yet he still couldn’t bear to squeeze her too hard. Everything she had wanted to say was swallowed back down. A faint pang of helpless pity brushed her heart as she softly hummed, "Got it."
Junia Simpson and Grayson Quinn exchanged a glance and left.
Once they were out, Grayson said, "I thought you’d just stay out of it, whether she lived or died."
"I’m not as cold as you." Junia replied.
Grayson’s lips curled. "So after everything settled down, you thought it through and realized blaming her was a bit childish? Sigh, the two of them could’ve been together, yet we were the ones who had no choice but to tear them apart. Just think how much sin we’ve got on our consciences!"
"Don’t say ’we.’ It’s just you." Junia shot Grayson a brief glance and walked off.
...
"Sigh!"
Aurelia sighed inwardly.
From the corner of her eye, she glanced at the man on the sofa.
