Chapter 1383: Chapter 1383: All Yearning Fades Before Her Words

Sensing a jolt, Aurelia Shaw’s brows knitted. When she opened her eyes, she saw Mason Nightshade carrying her on his back, moving forward.

She lowered her head and glanced at Mason Nightshade’s shoes.

"Didn’t you say Grayson Quinn would find us?"

"Yeah, but he’s an idiot. By the time that idiot finally tracks this place down, you might not be able to hold on. Be good, sleep a bit more. You’ve lost too much blood, you’re very weak right now. We’re almost out."

Aurelia didn’t argue. She could feel the strength draining out of her, her whole body icy cold. Mason Nightshade’s coat was draped over her, but she was still freezing.

She didn’t know if the secret tunnel was just too cold, or if she was about to die.

Mason Nightshade walked for over an hour before he finally saw light. He twisted open an iron lid–like door and realized they were still on the mountain.

After walking for so long, they’d only gone from one side of the mountain to the other.

Mason Nightshade settled Aurelia down on a patch of soft ground, found some dry branches and fresh leaves, lit the branches, then spread the leaves over the fire. Thick smoke immediately billowed upward.

...

Grayson Quinn ordered people to dig open the secret tunnel, then led a team to search the mountain.

Seeing thick smoke rising, Grayson Quinn immediately led his men toward it.

Aurelia was already half-conscious. Mason Nightshade pulled her into his arms, covered her with his coat, and pressed his lips to her ear, calling her name. "Aurelia, don’t sleep. Talk to me."

"I’m so sleepy."

"I know, but you can’t sleep now. I want to talk to you. Say something to me, okay? How have you been these days?"

"Mm."

"Did you miss me?"

"Mm."

Mason Nightshade’s arms tightened around her. "Aurelia, are you still awake?"

"Mm."

"Who am I?"

"Mason Nightshade."

Perfect. Mason Nightshade lowered his head and kissed Aurelia’s forehead. Hearing her personally say she’d missed him, his heart actually started pounding uncontrollably.

All the longing in the world couldn’t compare to that one sentence from her.

When Grayson Quinn found Mason Nightshade, the two of them were huddled together. He immediately saw that something was wrong with Aurelia, sprinted over, and tried to take her from Mason Nightshade’s arms.

Mason Nightshade had been down below for so long, he definitely couldn’t hold up much longer either.

Yet when Grayson Quinn reached out, Mason Nightshade dodged his hand, stood up with Aurelia in his arms, and strode toward the car. "Find a doctor. Get Junia Simpson here."

"But Junia Simpson just went back to Country Z on business..."

"Send a helicopter to bring her back overnight!"

Mason Nightshade’s tone left no room for discussion, and Grayson Quinn had no choice but to start making calls.

After a whole frantic toss-up, Junia Simpson, who had just arrived in Country Z, was immediately flown back to M Nation by helicopter. The moment her feet touched the ground, she was pushed straight into the operating room.

An hour later, the surgery was over. Junia Simpson let out a breath and took off her mask. "She’s fine. The bullet’s been in her body for too long, so there’s some inflammation, but it’s resolving. She’s not in any danger now. However, she’ll need to keep taking her meds, and the wound absolutely cannot get infected..."

At this point, Junia Simpson suddenly stopped, giving Mason Nightshade a meaningful look.

"Major General, you should be even more clear than I am about what precautions to take."

After all, he’d been injured so many times and had never once followed medical orders.

"Right, and have them wheel her over for a full-body exam while we’re at it," Junia Simpson added.

"Full-body exam?" Mason Nightshade’s brows knitted.

Junia Simpson explained, "I can feel the toxins in her body acting up again. Without the Mafia’s research data, I can’t yet figure out what kind of toxin it is, and I haven’t found a way to neutralize it. All I can do is guard against it.

Running a full-body exam is safer.

Last time I only ran some bloodwork on her. I’d planned to do a full-body exam, but for some reason, Aurelia wouldn’t cooperate."
