Chapter 1337: Chapter 1337: How Could It Not Hurt, When the Knife Cuts So Deep?

Alaric Wood didn’t see that kind of look directed at himself from Aurelia Shaw.

Even though she was obviously scared, she kept talking to him while pretending to be fearless and tough.

A few days passed calmly like this, and Alaric eventually became the next test subject. They took him away, and when he returned, he was covered in needle marks and knife scars.

"Why are you crying?"

"I’m not crying." Aurelia Shaw wiped away her tears with her sleeve, "Does it hurt?"

"What’s there to hurt? I’ve experienced worse; this is nothing to me."

"You’re lying. The cuts are so deep, how can it not hurt?"

"In the past, during winter, I begged in a restaurant. A hot-tempered person kicked me in the chest, and the bruises took months to heal. I was unconscious for three days and almost died. If I survived that, why would I be afraid of these little wounds? You’re such a pampered lady, so fragile."

"Liar!"

"Fine, don’t believe me then."

"I’m saying you’re a liar for saying it doesn’t hurt!"

Aurelia Shaw puffed her cheeks in displeasure, not wanting to deal with Alaric. But fearing he might die from blood loss overnight, she bandaged him.

Alaric lowered his eyes, looking at the messy lace cloth wrapped around his arm.

Aurelia’s princess dress was torn to shreds; it was the first time he had seen such a lady not care about her dress.

And for the first time.

Someone cared about him.

Worried he might die.

"Hey."

"Hmm? What is it?" Aurelia Shaw looked up.

I won’t let them hurt you like this, Alaric whispered to himself.

The next day, Alaric was taken again, tied to the operation table.

Then, someone ran in.

"It’s bad. That woman committed suicide!"

"Weren’t people guarding her? How did she commit suicide?"

"That woman was too clever. She sent away the guards and secretly hid a knife herself."

"Stop talking, quickly go check it out."

Alaric didn’t know who the dead woman was, but she saved his life.

He clamped the scalpel with his foot, brought it to his hand, and bit it to cut the rope on his wrist, then headed toward where Aurelia Shaw was kept.

He heard someone talking: "Weren’t you supposed to keep an eye on her? Now that she’s dead, how will we threaten Balthazar Shaw? No, Balthazar cannot know about this. Where’s his daughter, Aurelia? Bring the girl over here."

Alaric’s scalp tingled; although he didn’t know what they planned for Aurelia, he couldn’t let her stay here any longer.

These murderous demons would eventually target her.

Alaric rushed back to the cage where Aurelia was kept, having secretly left a key there, waiting for the right moment to escape.

Aurelia watched him with a shocked expression, "Why did you come back? How do you have a key? Where... where are you taking me?"

"Don’t you want to escape?"

Aurelia was stunned.

Alaric glanced back at her, "I’ll protect you."

"I have to find my mom first." Aurelia hesitated.

"Once you get out, your mom will find a way too. Staying here will only hinder her. Only by getting out can you find someone to save her," Alaric said, pressing his lips together.

He couldn’t tell her that her mom was already dead.

If she knew, she’d surely cry.

She cried so easily.

He had to save her first.

Alaric took Aurelia to a room, opened the vent, lifted her up, and let her crawl inside, then closed the vent.
