Chapter 1300: Chapter 1300: Alaric Wood Is...

Aurelia Shaw’s hand gripped the knife handle, the blade stabbing into Alaric Wood’s abdomen.

"You still chose him." Alaric gave a powerless, bitter smile, his weak voice murmuring by Aurelia’s ear, "Don’t trust Mason Nightshade. Don’t believe anything he says."

What was that supposed to mean? Aurelia had no time to think it through. She whispered a soft "sorry," pushed Alaric away, opened the door, and fled.

She couldn’t bring herself to trust someone who didn’t exist in her memories.

No matter how sincere Alaric sounded, how real he seemed, how easily he could shake her, she still couldn’t believe him.

Because.

She already couldn’t believe anyone anymore.

People are too good at acting. She could tell most of the time whether someone was lying, but she could never be one hundred percent sure no one would deceive her.

The death and torture she’d suffered in her previous life had taught her that you can’t trust anyone.

People, they’re all actors.

Pain and bleak sorrow flickered in Alaric’s eyes as he watched her figure run farther and farther away. It felt like a bloody knife had gouged out a chunk of his chest! The pain made his breathing tremble, yet he stood there like a man of iron, unable to feel the ache in his abdomen.

"You still chose him."

...

Aurelia straightened herself up, triggered the alarm again, and only then went back to the room. She lowered her gaze to Mason Nightshade’s sleeping face, and the heart that had been frozen by the cold wind warmed. She burrowed into Mason’s arms and wrapped her arms tightly around his waist.

Alaric’s words echoed again in her mind.

"Don’t trust Mason Nightshade. Don’t believe anything he says."

I choose to believe you. Compared to someone who doesn’t exist in my memories, I trust my own feelings more.

Mason seemed to sense something, and he hugged Aurelia back. His arms tightened, and his steady breathing brushed against the hollow of her shoulder.

——

"How many times are you going to hurt yourself!" Vaila Mook’s voice trembled as she looked at Alaric Wood opposite her. Blood was flowing from his abdomen, yet he seemed unable to feel any pain. Even though his face was pale, his expression didn’t change. There was no emotion in his eyes, as gray and lifeless as stagnant water.

She knew he had gone to find Aurelia again.

She couldn’t stop him, but every time he went, he came back covered in wounds. She couldn’t understand why he had to fixate on one woman. With his status, what kind of woman couldn’t he have?

Vaila forced down the tangled emotions, took a deep breath, crouched down, and bandaged Alaric’s wound. Her fingers were trembling. "The boss finally helped you recover your past-life memories. If he finds out that for the sake of one woman you keep taking risks again and again and even injure yourself, he’ll be very disappointed."

"When he woke me, he should’ve already known what I was obsessed with. And don’t forget, it’s because of me that you exist as you are now." Alaric seemed to care about nothing. The one person he truly cared about had just left him.

The Alaric of now and the Alaric from before were like two different people. The wickedness in him was heavier, his emotions lighter, as if no one but that woman could ever make him care again.

Vaila pressed her lips together and didn’t speak.

"I won’t let her go. Mason Nightshade doesn’t deserve her." Alaric muttered to himself, his gaze unfocused, a flash of coldness streaking quickly through his eyes.

...

Today she was going with Mason Nightshade to register their marriage. Aurelia picked and picked, and finally decided to wear a dress. The white fabric set off her fair skin, the hem falling above her knees. Her calves were evenly slender, her ankles delicate and refined. In high heels, with perfume specially sprayed on and two hours spent on her makeup, she carefully looked herself over before she finally curled her lips in satisfaction.
