She hadn’t felt fear in a long time. In her dreams, she was trapped in darkness, suffocated as the chill seeped into her bones, making her shiver. She cried out for help, but no one could hear her. She hugged herself, burying her head in her knees, crying silently.

Aurelia Shaw was jolted back to reality by a gust of cold wind and realized the window was open.

She remembered Mason Nightshade had closed it before they went to sleep.

Aurelia put on slippers and approached the window. Just as her hand touched it, suddenly, a pale, slender, slightly cool hand grasped her wrist and pulled her out.

A strong arm encircled her waist, pulling her into an embrace. Aurelia caught a whiff of a cold scent. She looked up and met Alaric Wood’s wicked, slightly androgynous face, causing her heart to jolt.

What was Alaric Wood doing here?!

"Don’t be afraid, I’ll take you away from here." Alaric caressed Aurelia’s face, his gaze devout, and then suddenly plunged, holding her tight as he jumped down, plunging into the night.

Aurelia’s hands were clenched tightly by Alaric, the force too strong for her to break free. The villa grew further and further away, almost disappearing, and Aurelia began to panic, "Alaric, what on earth are you doing?!"

"Shh!" Alaric’s breath brushed against her cheek, though not intentionally. At that moment, one of his hands restrained Aurelia’s hands, while the other covered her mouth. Although Alaric’s hand was covering Aurelia’s mouth, he wasn’t exerting force, so she could still breathe and speak.

"Talk to me." Aurelia tried to calm herself down.

In a short while, she assessed her physical capability against Alaric’s. She couldn’t beat him; physically, she was no match for him, and she had no advantage in a direct confrontation.

Besides, she had a lot of questions for him.

Alaric glanced at Aurelia, then led her a bit further, pulling her into an empty warehouse.

"Xiao Du, I’ve come to get you, come with me." Alaric surveyed the surroundings, released Aurelia, and looked at her intently.

"I’m not Xiao Du." Aurelia furrowed her brow slightly, instinctively feeling Alaric had mistaken her for someone else, yet the situation couldn’t be that simple.

"You are! You’re mine!" Alaric seemed to imply something with his words, "Come with me, there are things you just haven’t remembered yet. You don’t belong to Mason Nightshade, you belong to me. I’ll take you back, back to your home."

"My home? My home is right here, that much I can be sure of! You say you know me, what’s the proof? In my memory, you don’t exist at all. You want me to believe in something that shouldn’t exist, to follow a damned Mafia operator? To leave the light and enter an endless abyss?" Aurelia challenged him word by word.

Alaric remained silent, for he was the abyss, and Mason Nightshade was her light.

But even so, he wouldn’t let her go.

"I will protect you; I will help you find those memories. As long as you come back with me, you can understand everything. He’s not the person you need; I am the one!" Alaric’s jaw tensed, his eyes bloodshot, "Come with me, and I’ll give you the truth!"

Aurelia wavered slightly.

Alaric noticed the hesitation in her eyes, and a joyful smile spread across his face, as happy as a child.

"I’ll take you back, we..." Alaric stretched out his arms to embrace Aurelia, the smile on his lips freezing instantly, his face turning pale, his expression bewildered, unable to believe as he looked down at his own abdomen.
