Chapter 1297: Chapter 1297: Tomorrow We’ll Get Our Marriage Certificate

"If you lay a hand on her, don’t blame me for disregarding our past ties." Mason Nightshade spoke coldly and walked out.

Reaching the doorway, Mason stopped and glanced sideways at Henry Fletcher, "Little Fletcher, I’ve let you off once before, but this time, I absolutely won’t."

With that, Mason left, leaving Henry alone in the room, his lips curving into a cold and mocking smile.

...

Getting into the car, Mason saw Aurelia Shaw curled up in the corner, hugging her knees. The bloodstains on her body hadn’t been cleaned off yet, emitting a faint smell of blood. Her pale cheeks were splashed with blood, her lashes were lowered, hiding her eyes, and in the aloof coolness was an accidental glimpse of hurt.

Mason’s heart ached, as he held her in his arms, gently patting her back with careful, protective movements, "It’s okay now."

"Hiss—" Aurelia exclaimed softly.

The sound was so low that Mason, with his keen hearing, almost missed it. Sensing something amiss, he pulled away from her and lifted her clothes up.

Grayson Quinn, sneaking a peek from behind, quickly averted his gaze, thinking Mason was getting beastly in the car; can’t he restrain himself a bit?

Seeing the bruises on her body, Mason’s breath hitched, his eyes darkened, and his temples throbbed with restrained rage.

How could she not be hurt during a confrontation, especially with her being outnumbered? For Aurelia to gain the upper hand under unfavorable conditions was already a tremendous feat; she wasn’t a professional fighter, nor was she trained as a special forces soldier. She relied wholly on her instincts, and Ava Thompson was still in the room; if the command post fell, what would be the next target?

The people outside defending the place would be attacked from both sides, and nobody could predict what the situation would become.

Despite being so badly hurt, Aurelia didn’t utter a sound. Mason, heart aching, retrieved a first aid kit, rolled up her clothes carefully to apply medicine, noticing her shrinking back in pain, though silent, his movements grew gentler.

Aurelia gazed at Mason’s face, her brows furrowed as chaotic thoughts swirled in her mind.

What had Mason discussed with Henry? Was it about her, about Henry targeting her? Aurelia wanted to ask Mason but couldn’t voice it, suspecting he wouldn’t tell. She felt a sarcastic laugh bubbling inside; they had agreed not to keep secrets from each other, yet their hearts held more secrets. Even the closest couples have secrets they can’t share, right? So... the notion of no secrets was never truly possible.

Grayson, catching sight of Aurelia’s injuries in the rearview mirror, gasped, stealing a glance at her. If Mason hadn’t been so perceptive, her severe injuries might have gone unnoticed; how much self-control did this girl have?

"Mason, it doesn’t hurt." Looking at his tightly knitted brows, Aurelia couldn’t help but offer comfort. It really didn’t hurt; if not for the raised clothing, she wouldn’t even know she had so many wounds.

"Shut up!" Mason said with suppressed restraint.

Aurelia knew well how much pain she could endure, and Mason knew too, but the consequence of it all was something Mason dared not recall.

The car stopped at the presidential suite.

Mason bent down to pick up Aurelia, suddenly whispered in her ear, "Tomorrow, let’s get our license."

"But your injuries..." Aurelia paused, worriedly.

"My injuries are fine." Mason maintained his decision, carrying her into the villa.

Aurelia pressed her hand against Mason’s chest, feeling the sensation beneath her fingertips; her eyes slightly shifted.
