Chapter 114: Chapter 114 Immortal at last.
PRESENT!!
There was complete stillness in the air.
Eugene stood frozen for a moment, his eyes darting around as he tried to understand what had happened. The creature that had stabbed Noah was nothing more than dust now, its remains suspended in the air alongside the blood that had spilled from its body.
Everything had stopped.
Not slowed.
Stopped.
Eugene’s gaze snapped toward Noah.
He rushed forward.
"No... baby, no!" His voice broke as he dropped beside him. "Please, darling, don’t die on me."
He carefully took Noah’s pale cheeks between his trembling hands. The warmth that normally radiated from Noah’s body seemed faint, and the sight nearly shattered him.
Around them, the other Moonlight Alphas were frozen in different positions, their eyes locked in the direction Noah had been attacked. Some had been moving toward him when time stopped, clearly trying to reach him.
The terror on their faces told Eugene everything.
They had all thought Noah was going to die.
Eugene swallowed hard as tears blurred his vision.
"I’m sorry," he whispered, his voice shaking. "I wasn’t fast enough. I should have stopped it. Why am I always late? Why am I always one step behind when you need me?"
His tears fell freely now.
He pulled Noah into his arms, holding him as though refusing to let death take him.
He couldn’t accept it.
He couldn’t lose Noah.
Not after finally understanding what he meant to him.
"Wait..."
Eugene suddenly pulled back.
"Isn’t he a pureblood?"
His eyes widened.
"He can’t die... right?"
Then something caught his attention.
A brilliant light was shining beside Noah.
The Heavenly Sword.
It rested in Noah’s hand, glowing beneath the darkened sky. The moon was barely visible behind thick clouds, leaving the school grounds drowned in an eerie darkness. The sword was the only thing illuminating their surroundings, its radiance almost too beautiful for a battlefield covered in blood.
Eugene stared at it before looking back at Noah.
Then—
Noah moved.
Eugene’s breath caught.
The hand gripping the sword twitched.
"Noah?"
His entire body jolted when Noah suddenly gasped and sat upright.
Eugene immediately supported him.
Noah dragged in a deep breath, his chest rising and falling rapidly as though he had just surfaced from deep water.
"I..."
He touched his chest.
"I thought I was stabbed."
His eyes widened as the memory returned.
The monster.
The claws.
The pain.
He quickly reached behind himself, searching for the wound.
Nothing.
His clothes were torn, but there was no wound beneath them.
Not even a scar.
Noah’s expression became confused.
"What... is happening?"
He looked around.
His eyes widened further.
The monsters were frozen.
The falling pieces of the buildings were frozen.
Even the blood hanging in the air remained suspended.
Then he noticed the Moonlight Alphas.
They weren’t moving either.
"What is this?" Noah whispered. "Why isn’t anyone moving?"
Eugene stared at him.
"I think..."
He looked around again.
"I did this."
"You?"
"The time I caused it."
Eugene’s voice trembled with disbelief. "I think i stopped time."
Noah looked at Eugene own hands.
"You stopped time?"
Eugene nodded slowly.
"I’ve never tried anything like this before. I don’t even know how I did it."
His voice softened.
"I think I activated it because I thought I was going to lose you."
Noah’s expression changed.
Before he could say anything, Eugene pulled him into another embrace.
"Come here."
He held him tightly.
"Hug me, Ashton. I love you so much that I thought I was going to lose my mind when I saw you get stabbed."
Noah stiffened slightly at the intensity of his words.
"I really thought something happened to you."
The sincerity in Eugene’s voice made Noah’s chest tighten.
"I’m fine," Noah whispered.
Eugene buried his face against his shoulder.
"You scared the hell out of me."
Noah slowly wrapped his arms around him.
"Nothing will happen to me."
He paused before adding, "I think I’m finally immortal."
Eugene lifted his head.
"What?"
"The pureblood awakening..." Noah looked down at himself. "Maybe it finally sealed me away from death. Maybe that’s why the wound disappeared."
Eugene stared at him as if he had just grown another head.
"Sealed you away from death?"
"That’s what I’m thinking."
"How?!"
"I don’t know!"
Eugene opened his mouth, then closed it.
"Fine. We can talk about that later."
His expression suddenly softened.
"But right now..."
He pulled Noah closer.
"I want to kiss you."
Noah barely had time to react before Eugene pressed his lips against his.
The kiss was desperate rather than gentle, filled with all the fear Eugene had been carrying since the moment he saw Noah fall.
Noah’s fingers tightened around Eugene’s clothes.
For a moment, the chaos outside disappeared.
There were no monsters.
No emperor.
No spirits.
No mysterious school.
Just them.
When they finally separated, Eugene remained close, his forehead resting against Noah’s.
His eyes drifted toward Noah’s neck.
The sight of the bare skin immediately reminded him of the bond between them.
A strange heat stirred inside him.
His instincts were demanding that he mark Noah.
The urge was almost overwhelming.
Yet Eugene forced himself to pull back.
His eyes moved toward the frozen figures of the other Alphas.
They were still trapped in stopped time.
He couldn’t be selfish.
Not now.
Eugene took a deep breath.
"They’re still trapped."
Noah looked at them.
"If we break the spell right now, the monsters will start moving again."
"And they’ll attack them."
"Exactly."
Eugene looked toward the shattered school.
"We need to move them somewhere safe before we release the time freeze."
Noah nodded.
"Then let’s get out of here."
He looked exhausted.
Completely exhausted.
"I don’t want to stay in this school anymore."
There was no hesitation in his voice this time.
"I’ve had enough."
His eyes moved toward the distant battlefield.
The emperor.
The spirits.
The monsters.
The secrets.
All of it.
He was tired of being dragged from one disaster into another.
"I don’t care anymore if this school is some ancient prison or if it was built to contain monsters. I don’t care what secrets are hidden beneath it."
Noah tightened his grip around the Heavenly Sword.
"I want it behind me."
Eugene watched him silently.
Noah had changed.
The person standing before him wasn’t the same frightened boy who had entered this school unsure of himself.
He had been forced to confront too many things in too little time.
His supposed father was the Emperor.
A demon wanted him.
Ancient spirits were attacking the school.
His Alphas were mysteriously losing their strength.
The Heavenly Sword had chosen him.
And now he had somehow stopped time.
Yet somehow, through all of it, Noah still wanted to protect everyone.
Even when it put him in danger.
Especially when it put him in danger.
Eugene gently touched his cheek.
"We’ll leave."
Noah looked at him.
"Really?"
"Really."
Eugene smiled.
"We’ll get Lamia to teach you properly. We’ll train. We’ll figure out your powers. We’ll find out why all of this is happening."
His thumb brushed against Noah’s cheek.
"And we’ll do it together."
Noah’s expression softened.
"What about the empire?"
The question hung between them.
Eugene knew exactly what he meant.
The Emperor wanted Noah to return with him.
He wanted Noah to accept his place as an heir.
But Noah had already made his decision.
"I don’t want to go with him."
His voice was firm.
"I don’t trust him."
Eugene nodded.
"Then you don’t have to."
Noah exhaled.
"I don’t want to be anyone’s heir. I don’t want a crown. I don’t want some grand title."
He glanced at the Heavenly Sword.
"I just want answers."
Eugene smiled.
"And you’ll get them."
He looked around the frozen battlefield.
"But first, we need to move everyone."
Noah nodded.
He stepped toward the first frozen Alpha.
The moment he touched him, a strange pulse of golden light spread across the man’s body.
Noah stared.
"It responded to me."
"Everything seems to respond to you lately."
"That’s not comforting."
Eugene chuckled.
"No. It’s really not."
Together, they began moving the frozen Alphas away from the collapsing sections of the school.
Noah could still hear the echoes of the screams trapped within the frozen world, even though no sound was actually moving.
Everywhere he looked was destruction.
Buildings were half-collapsed.
The ground was cracked.
More monsters hung suspended in the middle of attacks.
Students remained frozen while trying to escape.
The sight made Noah’s stomach twist.
He didn’t know how many people had already died.
And that thought hurt.
But he couldn’t save everyone by throwing himself into danger.
He had finally begun to understand that.
He needed to survive first.
He needed to become stronger.
Only then could he protect anyone.
As Eugene helped carry Damian away from the battlefield, Noah glanced toward the dark sky.
The moon remained perfectly still.
The clouds hadn’t moved.
Not even the smoke rising from the destroyed buildings was shifting.
Noah shuddered.
Eugene had stopped the entire world.
For how long?
He didn’t know.
And somewhere deep inside him, something told him that this power wasn’t ordinary.
It wasn’t simply time manipulation.
There was something else buried beneath it.
Something ancient.
Something that had awakened alongside the pureblood within him.
Noah tightened his grip around the Heavenly Sword.
"I need to understand myself."
Eugene looked at him.
"You will."
"And if I can’t?"
"Then we’ll figure it out anyway."
Noah smiled faintly.
"You really aren’t going to leave me alone, are you?"
"Never!! Even I too have to understand what I just unleashed. We all have to do this as a family."
Eugene’s answer came without hesitation.
Noah’s heart warmed.
Then he looked back at the frozen battlefield one last time.
The school had become a graveyard, where spirits had awakened, the gates all wide opened.
The monsters had escaped.
And the Emperor was stil probably waiting for him.
Somewhere in the middle of all this destruction was the truth about Noah’s existence and he believes it he just has to find it.
He had spent so long running from his destiny.
But maybe running had never been the answer.
Maybe he needed to face it.
Just not today.
Today, he needed to survive.
"Let’s go."
Eugene nodded.
"Let’s go."
They continued carrying the others away from the battlefield.
Neither of them noticed the faint golden crack that appeared across the surface of the Heavenly Sword.
A tiny pulse of light travelled from the blade into Noah’s palm.
Once.
Twice.
Then a third time.
As if something had awakened under the school again which the sword is trying to warn him of.
And somewhere far beneath the school—
Something horrifying noticed the alert sent by the heavenly sword.
