Chapter 111: Chapter 111 The school massacre

Damian rushed forward and grabbed the nearest table, using it as a shield just as a monstrous entity lunged toward Noah’s back.

Its claws slammed into the table.

CRACK!

The plastic shattered into several pieces, sending fragments flying across the room.

Damian barely had enough time to throw the broken pieces aside before the creature came again.

Marcus, meanwhile, was struggling to walk.

His injured leg was barely supporting his weight, and every step sent another wave of pain through his body.

Then one of the monsters noticed him.

It charged.

Marcus turned too late.

The creature opened its disgusting, gaping mouth, thick, curled fluid dripping from its teeth as it prepared to snap down on him.

"Fuck!"

Damian’s eyes flashed.

His blood-control ability erupted.

The creature froze midair.

Then its entire body violently compressed.

Blood burst from beneath its skin before its body exploded into a disgusting mixture of blood, flesh, and bone that splattered across the floor.

Marcus stared.

"That was fucking close."

Damian looked toward him.

"Can you move?"

"Define move."

Marcus tried taking another step.

His leg immediately trembled.

"Okay, apparently not."

Damian sighed.

"We’ll deal with it after we survive this."

But neither of them had time to think about anything else.

Another roar came from behind.

Killian was suddenly tackled by two creatures.

They crashed into him, knocking him onto the floor.

The monsters climbed over him, claws digging into his clothes as they snapped their teeth dangerously close to his face.

Killian gritted his teeth.

"You ugly bastards."

His eyes changed.

His nightmare affinity activated.

The creatures stopped.

Their eyes locked with his.

Killian’s expression became terrifyingly calm.

"Look at me."

They did.

Their bodies began trembling.

The monsters’ skulls suddenly started swelling.

Their heads grew larger and larger as pressure built inside their brains.

Killian’s eyes narrowed.

"Explode."

BOOM!

Both heads burst simultaneously.

Their bodies collapsed on top of him.

Killian shoved them away with disgust.

"Get the hell off me."

But there was no time to celebrate.

More monsters came.

From the hallway.

From the windows.

From the walls.

Even from holes opening beneath the floor.

Noah watched them rush toward them, but there was something else that caught his attention.

They weren’t attacking randomly.

Most of them were heading toward him.

Why?

He tightened his grip around the Heavenly Sword.

The weapon felt strange in his hands.

Not heavy.

Not light.

It was almost as though it had been made specifically for him.

Noah raised it.

The blade erupted with brilliant energy.

Four creatures lunged toward him at once.

He swung.

A wave of scorching power swept across the room.

The four monsters were instantly reduced to burning chunks of flesh before scattering across the marble floor.

Noah stared at the sword.

"Okay..."

He looked at the destroyed creatures.

"That’s actually terrifying."

Another section of the wall collapsed.

BOOM!

Dust filled the room.

The floor cracked beneath their feet.

More holes appeared in the walls.

And through every opening came more monsters.

"Goddamn it!"

Noah stepped backward.

"Where are all these things coming from?"

The screams outside answered him.

Students were running through the halls.

Some were fighting.

Others were desperately trying to escape.

Some weren’t moving at all.

The school had become a battlefield.

"People are going to die!"

Damian immediately stretched out his hand.

A group of monsters jumped through the shattered window.

He caught them midair.

Their bodies froze.

Then Damian twisted his fingers.

The creatures’ necks began turning unnaturally.

One twist.

Then another.

Their bodies convulsed.

The sound of bones snapping echoed through the room.

Then their entire bodies exploded.

Blood sprayed across the walls.

And unfortunately, across everyone standing nearby.

Noah wiped a drop from his cheek.

He stared at his hand.

"I’m fucking soaking myself in a bathtub for a week after this."

Killian snorted.

"You might need a swimming pool."

Before Noah could answer, a claw suddenly came from behind.

He ducked.

The claw passed over his head.

Noah spun around and opened his mouth.

A powerful sonic wave erupted.

The creature was caught directly in the blast.

Its body began melting instantly.

The sonic attack spread outward, catching several monsters around it.

They screamed as their bodies dissolved.

The Moonlight Alphas immediately covered their ears.

"Warn us before you do that!" Eugene yelled.

"I didn’t exactly have time!"

The surviving creatures backed away.

For the first time, they weren’t attacking.

They were retreating.

Noah frowned.

"They’re getting worse."

The others looked toward the window.

Except Marcus, who was still struggling with his injuries.

The remaining alphas rushed toward the broken window.

What they saw made every single one of them freeze.

Students were being carried away.

Monsters were dragging people through the corridors and tearing through groups attempting to escape.

And above the school—

The sky was filled with strange distortions.

One dimensional rift.

Then another.

Another.

Another.

There were nearly ten of them.

The gates.

They had multiplied.

And from each one, monsters poured into the world.

Eugene’s face went pale.

"What in the universe..."

He stepped closer.

"How did there get to be this many?"

Noah couldn’t answer.

He could only stare.

Students were being attacked everywhere.

Some were running.

Others were fighting with everything they had.

But the monsters kept coming.

For every one that was defeated, three more appeared.

"No."

Noah’s hands tightened around the sword.

"I’m ending this."

He turned toward the door.

"I’m putting a stop to this."

He couldn’t watch innocent people die anymore.

"I won’t let students die because of something they had no part in."

He took one step.

Then stopped.

Marcus was still leaning against the wall.

Noah walked toward him.

"Wait."

Marcus looked up.

Before he could ask what Noah was doing, Noah placed both hands against his face and pulled him closer.

Then he kissed him.

Marcus froze.

His eyes widened.

For a moment, even the chaos around them seemed to disappear.

When Noah finally pulled away, Marcus was left staring at him, completely breathless.

"What..."

He touched his lips.

"What are you doing?"

Noah smiled faintly.

"Healing you."

Marcus blinked.

Then he felt it.

A strange warmth spread through his body.

The wounds on his legs began closing.

The ugly zigzag mark across his ankle slowly disappeared.

His muscles stopped trembling.

Marcus stared at his restored leg.

"You could’ve warned me."

Noah shrugged.

"You would’ve complained."

"I still would have."

Noah turned away.

But before he could leave, Killian stepped in front of him.

"Where do you think you’re going?"

"Out there."

"No."

Killian blocked him completely.

"You can’t go out there."

Noah’s expression hardened.

"Move."

"You haven’t mastered your powers."

"I have this."

He raised the Heavenly Sword.

Killian shook his head.

"And what happens when the sword isn’t enough?"

Noah’s expression changed.

"There are hundreds of people out there."

"And there are millions of people depending on you!"

Killian’s voice cracked.

"We live to fight another day."

Noah stared at him.

"You’re asking me to abandon them."

"I’m asking you not to throw your life away."

Killian clenched his fists.

"Do you even understand what you are?"

Noah didn’t answer.

"You’re the pureblood."

Killian stepped closer.

"You’re supposed to be the hope of this world."

"And what good is that hope if I can’t save the people standing right in front of me?"

Killian’s jaw tightened.

"Then think rationally."

He pointed toward the window.

"A school has hundreds of people."

His voice became desperate.

"The empire has millions."

"If you die here, who’s going to save them?"

Noah looked away.

Killian continued.

"What happened to the last pureblood?"

That question silenced him.

"We don’t even know."

His voice softened.

"Maybe they were immortal. Maybe they weren’t. Maybe someone killed them."

He shook his head.

"We can’t risk you."

Noah’s eyes lowered.

"You’re being selfish."

"Yes."

Killian didn’t hesitate.

"I’m being selfish."

His voice shook.

"And why shouldn’t I be?"

He grabbed Noah’s hands.

"The love of my life is standing here preparing to die for a world that might turn around and kill him anyway."

Noah’s breath caught.

"I don’t want you turned into some fucking statue people pray to after you’re dead."

His eyes were beginning to redden.

"I want you here."

He squeezed Noah’s hands.

"With me."

Then he glanced toward the others.

"With all of us."

The other alphas were silent.

Even Marcus, who usually had something ridiculous to say, had nothing.

"We can figure this out together," Killian continued.

"We’ll find someone who can train you."

"We’ll help you master every single power you have."

"And then you can become whatever savior this world expects you to be."

He shook his head.

"But not like this."

His voice broke.

"Not when you’re walking into something that could kill you."

Noah looked at him.

Killian swallowed hard.

"Don’t make me watch you die."

Damian suddenly moved forward.

He grabbed Noah’s hand.

"Please."

Noah looked at him.

Damian’s eyes were filled with fear.

"Don’t go."

Those two words hit harder than Noah expected.

A tear slipped from the corner of his eye.

He quickly wiped it away.

But another scream echoed outside.

Then another.

The sky had turned red.

Not because of the sunset alone.

Blood stained the grounds beneath it.

The entire school looked like it had been swallowed by war.

Noah looked toward the window.

His heart was breaking.

He wanted to save them.

Every instinct inside him demanded that he go.

But then he remembered the forbidden book.

The book he’d touched when he first arrived in this world.

The one that had shown him things no ordinary book should have contained.

The book of shadows.

His eyes widened.

Of course.

How had he forgotten?

That book wasn’t ordinary.

It was connected to powers even he didn’t understand.

And if there was anything capable of stopping the nightmare spreading through the school, it might be that book.

Noah slowly looked toward

the direction of his hidden storage.

"I know what to do."

Everyone looked at him.

Killian frowned.

"What?"

"The book."

Noah tightened his grip around the Heavenly Sword.

"The Book of Shadows."

His mind raced.

He knew where he’d hidden it.

If he could retrieve it and restore its power, perhaps he could stop the spirits.

Perhaps he could close the gates.

Perhaps he could save everyone without throwing himself into the middle of the battlefield.

Noah turned away from the window.

"For once, I’m not going to run from my destiny."

His eyes hardened.

"This is who I am."
