Chapter 476 - Nostalgia
"Are you alright?" A man's voice caused the young boy to snap out of his thoughts.
Turning away from the window, Jax looked at the one sitting next to him, a young man whose smile was kind and soothing.
Right now, he was seated in the carriage with the male servants and the place looked a little crowded due to his unexpected addition.
Without uttering a word, Jax nodded in reply and was about to look away.
However, the young male servant seated next to him did not allow him to do so.
"You will have to work hard from now on." He warned the young boy who was chosen by the Young Miss.
Jax was already informed by the Old Butler of the Valente household that he would be put through intense training for the position that he had been selected for.
Thus, he was mentally prepared to work hard and did not need this man's reminder.
Yet, he nodded his head without disregarding his goodwill.
"Butler Limo is an excellent yet scary trainer." One among them recalled his first days as a servant in the St. Claire Mansion and grimaced.
The other servants shuddered while thinking back to their earlier days being trained under that man as well.
This reaction caused Jax's curiosity to be piqued as he finally began paying attention to what they were talking about.
Through their discussion and reminiscing of their earlier days as new servants of the St. Claire's, Jax had figured out that the man named Limo who was in charge of the servants was a ruthless and scary man.
His training was rigorous and he did not tolerate lax attitudes or disrespect to the job or their Masters.
This made the young boy gulp his saliva as he wondered what he had gotten himself into.
While he wanted to lead a better life and get to experience how it was to live with people who cared for each other and guided each other, he was worried that he might be dragged into troublesome situations.
'That Butler man seems like a tough taskmaster.' He surmised but the other servants were not done yet.
"You were chosen by the Young Miss…" One of them remembered, causing the others to gaze at him with pitiful eyes.
"Is she bad?" Jax blurted out which instantly changed the atmosphere of the carriage.
While his brain was thinking of various scenarios with the evil little girl at the center of them all, the servants were staring at him with narrowed eyes.
"The Young Miss is generous, kind, and also tolerant towards us all." The first man who had initiated the conversation spoke up in her favor.
This further confused Jax who was unable to understand which side they were standing on.
'They just said that I will be in trouble because I was chosen by that little girl but now they speak highly of her.' He wondered if there was something amiss here.
However, they seemed to have figured out his thoughts and shook their heads.
"It is not the Miss but the Master and Young Master that you should be worried about." Another voiced his concern with a sigh.
Only then did Jax get to hear about how the little Miss was doted on by her father and brother who most probably are annoyed with his sudden arrival.
This made his eyes widen in shock but recalling how the two had objected to his presence, he nodded that he would indeed need to be careful of his actions.
"Butler Limo might be scary at first but if you do your job well then he would not make things difficult for you." The last man comforted him as he was the youngest one here.
Jax was lost in his thoughts about what he had gotten himself into but he did not forget to nod and smile at them.
'I've come this far so might as well try it out.' He tried to calm his mind which was felt with second thoughts about the decision he had made.
As he was deep in his thoughts, what he did not realize was that his smile was radiant enough to blind the men momentarily before they glanced at each other.
'No wonder Young Miss chose this country boy to be her Butler.' They nodded in unison as in their opinion, his face was the leading factor for him to be chosen.
With different thoughts in their minds, the carriage fell into silence until the end of the journey.
___
The carriages had come to a halt after three hours of continuous journey from the Valente fief to the St. Claire fief which shared a border.
Since the distance between them was short, they did not have to stop or take breaks which allowed them to arrive at the Summer Estate of the St. Claires before lunchtime.
However, throughout the journey, the little girl remained asleep in either her mother's or her father's lap.
Even when the carriages came to a halt and everyone alighted from their coaches, she made no signs of waking up from her slumber.
The servants with the Head Butler of the St. Claire's were ready to shout out their greeting to their Master who had returned after a long time.
However, looking at the burning glare on the Earl's face before he glanced at the sleeping child in his arms, the others comprehended that they had almost awakened their little miss due to their excitement.
Jax watched from the side as everyone tiptoed inside the house in order to not wake the child up and he could not help but want to roll his eyes at how much she was being pampered by these people.
Luckily, the men who were in the carriage with him were quick enough to glare at him lest he got in trouble even before they could head back to the Capital where his official job would begin.
With the nobles heading into the Mansion, Jax was led to the servant quarters next to the Main Mansion.
'This place is better than the cottage in the woods.' His eyes widened in awe as this servant quarter was much more luxurious than a well-to-do commoner's house.
When the other servants caught this new face glancing around, introductions were made and soon everyone in the Summer Estate heard the news about the new Butler that might serve the St. Claire family.
___
The next time that Yvonne's eyes fluttered open, she found herself to be in a different environment.
'Did we reach?' She wondered, disoriented due to her long nap which had lasted for over six hours.
Looking down, she found that her clothes had been changed into more comfortable home clothes which made her smile.
'Nanny must have done it.' She surmised that this could only be the actions of her considerate maid and nanny who knew what she liked and disliked the most.
The little girl then sat up in bed and glanced around the room only to face a wave of nostalgia washing over her.
This room was where she had first opened her eyes after being thrown into this world by that annoying bird god.
'I thought that I was kidnapped back then.' She chuckled at the misunderstanding that she first had after waking up.
However, soon that laughter died when she recalled how her first reaction was her confidence in her Grandpa Leo, that he would surely save her from the kidnappers.
A bitter smile appeared on her face but thinking of the things that had followed, this smile turned into a genuine one.
She had received the love of her parents, the care of an older brother, and made new friends in this world.
Though she was worried for the sake of her safety which could be endangered at any time due to the main characters of the script that this world was based on, she was living a comfortable life until now.
For this, she did not know whether to curse that Blue bird or to thank him for this different life.
'Nope! Never thanking him!' She shook her head as she was just fine in her previous world as well.
But now that she was in this world, she was going to live her life to its fullest, enjoying each moment.
With this thought in her mind, she glanced at the room she had woken up in and felt a bittersweet connection with it.
'A year has already passed since I first came to this world.' She reminisced about her arrival and how time had already flown by.
