Chapter 1546: Chapter 496: Facing the Four Emperors Directly_3

Wen Xishu spoke first:

"Of course. But you need to hear my conditions. Like you said, some things are expensive—you might not even be able to afford them."

Mammon’s lips twitched up, then he leaned back into the sofa behind him:

"I like you, kid. You’ve got a big appetite. I love people with a big appetite, that’s how you do things with some style."

"Go on then, what do you want?"

From Mammon’s words, Wen Xishu drew one conclusion: Mammon looked down on the other Three Emperors.

Very likely, the other Three Emperors weren’t exactly on Mammon’s side either.

On the surface, Mammon and the Zeroer were on the same team. After all, in Old Yan’s intel, the two of them were jointly in charge of the Divine Dawn transport—one providing manpower, one providing muscle.

But Mammon’s position was actually that of a total sucker.

He clearly provided the championship fighters, powerful escorts for the job, yet when it came to escorting the Divine Dawn, he could only provide manpower and supplies, while the one actually doing the job was the Zeroer.

He had to be pissed about that.

It’s just that, for Mammon, some things could only be handled slowly, step by step.

Wen Xishu decided to gamble. In that instant, Mammon suddenly sensed some kind of energy fluctuation.

"What are you doing? Planning to assassinate me?" Mammon sneered.

The strange energy fluctuation quickly vanished. Wen Xishu said calmly:

"I’ve got a grudge with the Zeroer."

Mammon took it as: the moment the Zeroer was mentioned, this Shadow Warrior released a bizarre killing intent.

Mammon narrowed his eyes, a bit of amusement in his expression.

The two of them were top-tier humanoid bodies—on their faces, expression usually equaled thought.

In the Mechanical City, Mammon pretty much didn’t need to pretend. If he hated someone or liked someone, he didn’t need to fake it.

That wasn’t for lack of scheming; the environment simply didn’t require it. Just like the former Five Elders of the Bunker.

"You know I’ve got a pretty decent relationship with Asdoku, right?"

"Then pretend I never said anything. If you can’t pay the stakes, take back your business card." Wen Xishu flicked Mammon’s card.

Under the cloak, Mammon couldn’t see Wen Xishu’s face either.

"What grudge do you have with him? Say it first."

"A grudge to the death. No need to ask for details, right? Plenty of people have died to the Zeroer’s subordinates, or been zeroed out by him, haven’t they? Emotions aren’t data—some things will never be reset to zero."

"Worst-case scenario, I kill him, then the Mechanical God kills me. Or you kill me."

Mammon burst out laughing:

"Hahahahaha, that’s insane. You call that the worst-case scenario? Shouldn’t the worst case be you fail to kill him and then he kills you instead?"

Wen Xishu didn’t answer, just stayed silent with a rather relaxed air.

A leisure-tinged silence was an answer in itself.

Mammon’s expression gradually turned serious:

"You really think you can pull it off?"

Only then did Wen Xishu slowly say:

"Best-case scenario, I kill him, but because someone helps me, I don’t die. I live. I’m pretty sure I’d be very grateful to whoever helped me."

Mammon really had never seen anyone this cocky.

This kid was actually saying to his face that he planned to take out one of the Mechanical City’s Emperor Level figures.

Wen Xishu definitely had guts. But those guts had a reason.

The moment Mammon sensed the special energy fluctuation, in fact, Wen Xishu had already become "Wen Xisu".

Right—he had, in a very short span, activated Pisces form. That form triggered Mammon’s vigilance in an instant.

And by using that form, Wen Xishu simulated several different futures.

After that, Wen Xishu switched back to his main form.

The process was dangerous, very likely to enrage Mammon—but as it happened, Mammon rather appreciated people with that kind of nerve.

He simply assumed the energy fluctuation was Wen Xishu releasing some kind of killing intent when he mentioned the Zeroer.

By foreseeing the future, Wen Xishu knew the consequences of certain answers once spoken.

That was why he dared to say such taboo things right in front of Mammon.

Mammon said:

"How am I supposed to trust you?"

Wen Xishu said:

"If you don’t trust me, you can just let me go back to the tournament. You don’t have to do a thing—either I die in the ring, or I join the Zeroer as the champion."

"Of course, you can also try snitching, or kill me right here."

Mammon said:

"You’re that confident in your skills? If I decide to kill you, you really think you can beat me?"

Wen Xishu shook his head:

"But I can get away. I’m betting you’ll help me. If I lose that bet, at the very least I can escape. Worst case, I find another chance later and kill the Zeroer then."

The more Mammon looked at Wen Xishu, the more interesting he found him. In the Mechanical City, there were no variables, so once in a while when a character outside the script showed up—especially one this powerful, capable of changing the plot—he found it pretty entertaining.

"You’ve got real skills. Where’d you get them?"

Wen Xishu said:

"I don’t really need to tell you, do I? Even though this city’s pretty much shut down every path for people to rise in status, there are still a few who get ridiculously lucky."

Mammon nodded. That was true enough.

Even though he was the one running the underground fighting, there were indeed a few people who got lucky, guessed his setup, and won enough money to overturn their fate.

People like that didn’t just exist in his arena; the Lower City District had plenty of them.

Of course, someone like the Shadow Warrior, slowly accumulating power like this—he’d genuinely never seen that before.

In Mammon’s eyes, Wen Xishu had to have been stockpiling resources for a very long time before he finally exploded onto the scene.

This was a man who could endure. It was also a man who valued feelings—otherwise he wouldn’t have endured this long just to kill one enemy.

The most extreme avengers were often emotional people. Only those who care deeply are willing to carry hatred and go on living.

Mammon suddenly found himself willing to believe Wen Xishu:

"Very interesting. This conversation turned out way more interesting than I expected. Kid, tell me your name."

"You can call me Avenger Unit," Wen Xishu said.

Mammon waved his hand:

"Too flashy. Let’s do this—you’ll be Shadow Warrior. That name suits you."

"I’m willing to work with you. Your asking price is steep, but I really want to see whether you can take down an Emperor."

"I’ll give you a chance to get close to him. You just focus on killing him. If you really pull it off, I can guarantee you won’t die. I might even..."

"You might end up with a chain of encounters beyond anything you can imagine."

"Your status might end up very high."

"Well?"

Wen Xishu said:

"No problem. From now on, as long as it doesn’t conflict with my revenge, I’ll follow your orders."

"You’re sharp—damn sharp. That’s exactly the kind of subordinate I like!"

Wen Xishu hadn’t expected that just pulling off a 1v3 would make his plan veer this wildly off course.

But it didn’t affect the endgame. His ultimate goal was to get in on the Divine Dawn escort.

The original plan was simple enough: beat Mammon’s men, join the Zeroer, then beat the Zeroer and obtain the secrets of the Divine Dawn project.

Now he could skip a few steps entirely, without even offending Mammon—and maybe pick up some extra fortunate encounters along the way.

This change actually sped up his progress.

The only question was whether he could really defeat an Emperor Level body.
