Chapter 291

The End of the Beautiful Heroine

Bang!!

Professor Lucien realized the situation was far from normal. He quickly cast his strongest barrier spell for protection. Moving without thinking was no longer an option. The young professor hurriedly sent out an emergency signal of the special level, which had never been used before in the Ares Kingdom. When everyone saw this signal, they were deeply shocked.

In the palace, in the capital, at Ares Institute, and in various cities, people stopped to look at the signal with trembling hearts. No one knew what was happening, but it was a high-level evacuation signal, indicating that no matter where they were in the kingdom, they needed to evacuate immediately.

Many high-level hunters were summoned to complete urgent missions, and the kingdom’s top magicians were to travel here quickly. Chaos ensued immediately after the signal was sent.

"That signal..." Wint paused, his eyes flickering. Right now, it seemed like his thought was in turmoil. If it wasn’t for this signal, he wouldn’t hesitate to protect the girl who seemed unaware of the danger. However, this signal meant it was a situation of the highest danger.

He looked at Ellie, who was now focused not just on potion concocting. However, she was only surveying the area, not doing anything further. Wint didn’t know if he should die with honor as a knight or flee to find a new target to follow for the benefit of his family.

His lips tightened in indecision, but ultimately, Wint could only sigh. Though the best choice was to flee and find a new path, he couldn’t abandon this girl. They had been through so much together over the past year. Ellie was like a sister, a friend, and his master...

“You won’t run, will you?”

“No. If you’re scared, you can leave first,” Ellie shrugged in response. Wint laughed, it’s a laugh with a single tear at the corner of his eye.

“I’m your knight. If I die with this honor, the Setter family will likely compensate the Femon family well.”

“Really? Can’t you follow someone else to gain more advantages for your family? Your survival would bring many benefits, whether by finding a new master or marrying a wife from noble family.”

“That’s true...” Wint shrugged, thinking the same. But he couldn’t bring himself to choose a different path.

“What about you...I want to believe you’re confident the Eldest Young Lord will arrive in time. Even if I die as a knight, it’s better not to die, right? Then I can pretend I protected you until the last minute, return alive, follow the correct master, marry the right person, and continue to support the Femon family.”

“Ha ha, it sounds like you’re betting with me.”

“Then tell me I’m betting on the right side.”

“Indeed.” Ellie waved her hand once, summoning a magical rune just in time.

Bang!!!

The demonic toxin that was thrown this way collided with Ellie’s high-level magical rune, and then her rune was destroyed. Fortunately, the rune was quite powerful, and Nara’s magic power was actually weak, causing both to dissipate. However, Nara did not give up...

“Hee hee,” a chilling laugh echoed, stabbing into the hearts of those around. Then, 2 more attacks from magic power shot out rapidly.

“Do you think you can compete with me? You underestimate the Setter family. Just this...we can keep this up all day,” Ellie taunted, raising an eyebrow. She felt like she was fighting the creator directly, and in truth, she was.

Bang. Bang. Bang!!

Ellie’s runes vanished one after another, taking the demonic toxin magic power with them. However, Ellie merely flicked her hand, while Nara, whose magic power was waning by the day, began to show signs of fatigue.

“No wonder you’re so confident...these high-level magical runes cost around 50,000 to 80,000 gold coins each, and you throw them away like they’re worthless. The Setter family must be truly wealthy.”

“Mmm. So, I’ll tell you the result now. It seems you made the right bet.”

“Good!” Wint grinned with satisfaction. It was good that he stayed by this mischievous girl’s side. Otherwise, he might have been deemed unworthy to be a follower for the rest of his life. Worse, if the Setter family found out he abandoned her, they might have come after him, leaving his life as fodder for the dogs.

As the two exchanged wicked smiles, Professor Medik, already filled with negative thoughts, saw his sole student still sitting by the cauldron. His heart sank.

He had intended to sacrifice his life to kill Student Nara. After killing her, he and Professor Lucien would commit suicide together. Their thoughts were aligned. Unlike the previous time when his dying companion was Professor Regan, this time it was Professor Lucien who would be his companion to the underworld. Medik’s heart no longer felt cold.

However, his resolve to die wavered when he saw his only student, and Nara’s key target from the bottom of her heart, still there!

Medik nearly cried out in an unintelligible language as he saw the toxin magic power heading toward his student. He almost rushed forward to take the hit himself. Fortunately, Professor Lucien, seeing Ellie’s earlier movements, stepped in to stop Medik from ruining things. If he intervened, Ellie might not have time to use her magical runes properly.

Seeing his student safe, Medik let out a loud, relieved shout.

"Ellie!! You foolish student! How can you still be here? Didn’t I tell you to run? And you...student from the Femon family, why are you both still here? Do you want to die!? Run now!!”

“Professor...I haven’t finished concocting the potion yet. Just give me another half hour will suffice.”

“You, you!!” Professor Medik nearly choked on his blood upon hearing his sole student’s response. But Ellie was just teasing her beautiful professor. She winked at the wise Professor Lucien, who felt as if he was being teased despite the dangerous situation.

Lucien’s arm still encircled Medik’s small waist. He hadn’t noticed before, but the faint fragrance on Medik’s body was starting to intoxicate him. Thus, he tightened his grip slightly.

“Lucien, let me go. I need to hit and teach her a lesson to understand what she’s dealing with!”

“Don’t worry so much. Don’t you see your student is better at protecting herself than you?”

“Y-You!”

“Calm down. If things get more serious, I’ll help your student myself. Of course, I’m prepared to sacrifice my life.”

“That...” Medik paused slightly. Although they were prepared for this battle, hearing Lucien say he would sacrifice his life made Medik’s heart ache. He couldn’t bring himself to say, “Good, I’ll do the same,” so he stood still, allowing Lucien to hold him.

Wint watched the two professors and shook his head. If this were a romance literature, he believed this scene would definitely be performed in theaters, as the nobility loved such dramas. But...what was this situation? Did the professors not understand the gravity?

Bang!!

The young man flinched, snapping back to reality. He had been silently criticizing the professors. Luckily, Ellie had not been complacent and had been watching the professors as well. Otherwise, they might have been hit by the surprise attack.

“What will you do next? Do you plan to use 50,000 gold coins to tire out the enemy?” Wint asked bluntly.

Nara, now infused with demonic toxin, should ideally be captured alive and then forced to kill herself later. There were many methods, but she had to be taken back to the palace. Those on this mission didn’t have the skills for such tasks. Wint had heard of effective hypnosis methods, but they were only theoretical, never tested in real situations.

Ellie thought for a moment. She looked at the two professors and Wint to gauge their reliability, then chose to use the weapons given to her by the eldest young lord, which meant that these weapons were imbued with his magic power.

While throwing magical runes to exhaust the enemy was a good strategy, it would take too long. By her calculation, about 50 more scrolls of magical runes would be needed. It was alright when she did not know about the value. Ellie had even thought of playing with the paper scrolls since they took up so much space. They had provided her with many magical runes, especially protection runes, probably fearing she might die before they could rescue her.

But knowing their true value now, Ellie felt a bit reluctant...

“I won’t let Nara attack us unopposed.”

“Huh? But that’s...”

“I know. This is a special weapon from the Setter family. The Eldest Young Lord once said it’s for dealing with demonic beasts, sealing their toxin within the weapon.”

“What?? Such a thing exists?”

“Yes.”

“That’s...too overpowered!!” Wint almost cried. He had known the Setter family was powerful, but he had never imagined they could overcome demonic toxin.

The Setter family had once lost their family head to demonic toxin. Now, had they successfully exact their revenge, finding a way to overcome the demonic toxin?

“Of course, this is a secret. Do you understand what I mean?”

“Absolutely. Not even the Femon family will know.”

“That’s the right decision. I’m glad you’re not an idiot.”

“Humph! I’m not stupid, but I’m not foolish enough to abandon you either,” Wint muttered after hearing her praise. Ellie was treating him like a child praised for “being good” and doing a “good job,” as if he would be happy about it.

“So, are you going out to fight?”

“Huh? What? Why would I go fight...”

“Then what will you do? Or...” Wint paused slightly. Suddenly, he saw Ellie smirked once. He felt like he’d been hit over the head by a hammer. His face twisted slightly, but he trusted Ellie and the eldest young lord. He looked at the seemingly ordinary weapon and took it.

And yes! Why should Ellie jump into the fray alone? This was Wint’s job now. She still had potions to concoct.

It might seem a bit lazy, but Ellie believed that only a “hero” could deal with the heroine. How could a side character like her, the “heroine’s friend,” defeat the story’s heroine?

Wint stepped forward slowly, holding an ordinary-looking sword. Professor Medik wanted to scold him a word or two, but Professor Lucien stopped him.

“That sword...I sense something unusual about its power.”

“What do you mean?”

“That student isn’t an idiot. Especially with your student involved, I feel they must have a plan.”

“But...”

“Or do you want me to go help right now?”

“That...” Once again, Professor Medik couldn’t respond. Professor Lucien turned away, secretly delighted that in the end, the compassionate Professor Medik chose to protect him over others.

This warm concern made Professor Lucien happier than ever before...He would love to ask the same question ten more times if not for fearing Professor Medik would grow suspicious...
