Chapter 334: Chapter 1: Mythical Flat Pan

In the city, the celebratory atmosphere would last for seven days.

Because of the 50% discount, players had bought out the shops on the commercial street. A huge number of players exchanged their event points for various rewards and then went on a spending spree, allowing the city to reclaim a massive amount of Abyss Coins.

The Salted Fish Inn also did quite well. A large quantity of Black Mashed Potatoes was sold. Part of the recovered funds went to factory rental fees, part to shop usage fees, and part to Manager Bai Yang’s salary. After the final tally, the guild’s funds had actually increased by a whopping 320,000.

「On the third day.」

The members of the Salted Fish Inn gathered in a lounge in Love City.

Everyone had contributed a great deal during the event and had gone on a crazy shopping spree during the discount period. Now, they were all completely exhausted.

Of course, per Duan Fei’s instructions, everyone had only used their Abyss Coins to purchase items, keeping all their remaining points.

In addition, Duan Fei also used the Abyss Coins he’d earned during the event to buy more points, preparing to make a big move.

A total of one million points was enough for him to redeem the best item twice.

Adding in the points contributed by the others, the grand total was 1.75 million points.

It had to be said, while the Salted Fish Inn didn’t have many members, each one punched well above their weight to have amassed so many points.

Moreover, points were far more valuable than Abyss Coins, and the range of items they could be exchanged for was much greater.

Rousing the group of slackers, Duan Fei distributed the event reward list and said, “Meeting time. Let’s discuss which items would be best to redeem.”

The highest-tier prize on the list was a Mythical-quality lottery ticket. The official description stated that this thing had a chance of yielding a Mythical item, with a guaranteed Purple item as a consolation prize.

‘The officials said there’s a chance, but you know how officials are…’

Seeing this reward, Little Fatty’s eyes lit up with excitement. He pointed at the item and said, “This one’s good! I want this one!”

“I want it too,” Duan Fei said with a pained expression. “But this thing is way too random. What if we get a tool that turns air into farm-grade manure?”

“I’d still want it!”

“So would I! But we can’t! Everything has to be based on practical use. We have to calculate the use of our points precisely. After all, an opportunity like this isn’t easy to come by.”

“But a guild on the forums got one, and they said it’s pretty good,” Little Fatty said, holding up his phone and pointing to a forum post.

Duan Fei leaned over and saw that it was the Eight Desolates guild that had redeemed this item. They claimed that the Mythical Flat Pan they received was excellent, and the food it made was so good it made the neighbor’s kids cry with envy.

Looking at the finished product, Duan Fei saw that this pan could be used for any cooking method, and the food it produced could even grant additional Attributes. It seemed like a decent item.

Below the post was a flood of envy, jealousy, and hate, but most of the user IDs looked familiar. They were probably Eight Desolates’ own employees, bumping the thread for their guild and getting some easy forum EXP while they were at it.

At this, Cuihua couldn’t sit still either.

He stared at the Mythical Flat Pan with wide eyes, too excited to speak for a long moment.

Duan Fei watched for a while before directly calling Eight Desolates. As soon as the call connected, he asked, “Eight Desolates, is that pan of yours really that good?”

“You saw the post, didn’t you?” Eight Desolates said sheepishly. “To be honest, I just got lucky. Hit the jackpot on my first try.”

“You can fool others, and you can even fool yourself, but don’t try to fool me. Spit it out. I really don’t believe that thing is so great.”

Eight Desolates was silent on the other end of the line for a moment, then let out a bitter laugh. “Weren’t we just trying to build some hype on the forums to find a sucker to unload it on? The food the Mythical Flat Pan makes is indeed very good, but it requires the ingredients to be Purple Epic Level quality. Otherwise, what it cooks is guaranteed to be shit. And this thing has to be used by a Chef. On top of that, it’s cursed. Only a Dark or Cursed Chef can use it.”

After a pause, Eight Desolates continued, “And I’ll give you the lowdown, the cost-to-benefit ratio on this thing is terrible. The food you work so hard to make only ends up boosting attributes by a tiny amount. So we really have no use for it and have to sell it.”

Duan Fei stroked his chin and thought for a moment. He felt that this item might be useless to others, but it seemed perfect for Cuihua.

He then continued, “So, how are you planning to sell it?”

Sensing Duan Fei’s interest, Eight Desolates immediately remembered that Duan Fei’s guild had Cuihua and quickly said, “We’re all friends here, I won’t play any tricks on you. A Mythical lottery ticket costs 500,000 points. I’ll sell you this pan for 250,000 points.”

“Deal. Let’s trade.”

After transferring the 250,000 points, Duan Fei quickly received the pan, sent via in-game mail.

Seeing the item, Duan Fei thought to himself that it was worthy of being a Red Divine Artifact.

“The Oldest Flat-bottomed Pan: Uncorrupted, Red Quality.

Description: This appears to be a very modern flat-bottomed pan. A faint ‘Su’ character is visible on the bottom. However, using isotope dating, we have discovered this pan is several hundred million years old. As for why it is made of stainless steel, we no longer know.

This item requires a dungeon to be completed before it can be attuned to an owner.

This item cannot be destroyed.

This item cannot be stolen.

This item cannot be lost.

This item can be used as a weapon, but only by a Chef.

The weapon type for this item is Arbitrary; it can be used as any type of weapon.

Holding this weapon automatically grants a Curse effect, reversing the toxicity of anything you create.

Holding this item greatly increases the drop rate of ingredients after killing a Monster.

…”

Besides the basic description, there was a whole slew of other descriptions for the pan. The attached skills couldn’t even fit on a single page; it took two pages to see them all.

Clutching the precious pan, Cuihua was too excited to speak.

Although, he was usually speechless anyway.

Waving a hand to tell Cuihua not to celebrate too soon, Duan Fei pointed to a line in the item description and said, “Look here. This thing requires completing a dungeon to attune it.”

“Mm. Let’s go,” Cuihua said firmly.

“Not so fast. Let’s check the details. Hmm… ‘Three people, user must be present, support players are recommended to participate, must be male players.'”

Looking at the four people present, Duan Fei realized the only ones who could go were himself, Cuihua, and Little Fatty. The Lone Ranger, that hothead who only knew how to kill things, shouldn’t go.

Jinghong’s gender didn’t match, so she couldn’t go either.

Deciding to help Cuihua solve the attunement problem later, Duan Fei looked at the remaining 1.5 million points and felt there was no need to spend them all through the official game channels.

‘Lottery tickets are a scam. Anyone who buys one is a fucking idiot. But with so many players, there are bound to be some fools who bought them and got crappy items.’

‘Maybe it’s not a bad idea to shop around a bit more.’
