Chapter 329: Chapter 94: How to Become a Demon King

Once the news was out, the other players quickly began their own investigations.

Hundreds of thousands of players across various towns and cities conducted these investigations. They compared common folk and Adventurers, even dragging out a few chieftains for testing, and ultimately arrived at a single conclusion.

The people of this world were, indeed, tainted by a sort of contamination.

This contamination seemed to exist within their very bodies; every single person was already afflicted from the moment they were born.

Normally, this contamination was extremely faint.

But over time, the contamination within them wouldn’t disappear. Instead, it would persist even after their lives ended, continuing to build up as they re-entered the cycle of reincarnation.

This mysterious contamination had become an integral part of this world’s life, woven into its very cycle.

The only solution was to send them to a Dungeon. Upon dying inside, the Demon King’s Power would purify their souls.

But that created another problem: the need to patch the soul.

After all, the contamination had become part of the soul. Losing that part would leave the soul incomplete, like a leaking balloon that could never be filled.

So, the Demon King would use the souls of animals to mend the soul and body. The end result was the emergence of a group of amnesiac Adventurers who had been fused with other creatures.

They would forget most of their memories, only vaguely recalling a need to challenge the Demon King. The result was that they would be defeated again, eventually becoming chieftains.

As Duan Fei wrapped his head around the world’s structure, he noticed the Demon King was still staring at him, her eyes bright and intent.

“Alright, you understand the situation now. So, can you kill me?”

“Why are you in such a hurry to die?!”

“Because I am an Outer God. You can think of me as an entity that infiltrated this world from somewhere else, merely inhabiting the body of this Demon King. My existence is an external, coercive concept; I myself bring no benefit to this world. Now, my duty is complete, so my only option is to be destroyed and then leave. Don’t worry, I won’t actually be dead. It’s more like I, personally, will just be gone.”

Duan Fei rubbed his temples as he looked at her. He knew he couldn’t let her leave, no matter what.

‘Not within the next five days, at least.’

They had only just figured out the contamination problem. The next step was to find a way to cleanse it. If they let this incredibly useful Outer God leave, they would lose their biggest trump card.

So, Duan Fei said with a serious expression, “I’m sorry, but could I ask you to stay for a few more days? Five days at most.”

“Apologies.” The Demon King raised a hand, making her refusal clear. “My mission is complete. I have no reason to stay. Right now, I just want to leave as soon as possible. If you don’t agree, I will trap you here until you let me go.”

Then, the Demon King’s aura shifted. The girl who had seemed so frail stood up and gestured to the vast Void around them. “And not only that,” she said, “I will also lay a Curse upon this place. It will become a forbidden zone, the price for restraining an Outer God.”

“There’s no need to be so extreme!”

“Outer Gods were never meant to interfere too much with this world, which is why I have to go. Wait… I just noticed. It seems you have Divinity as well.”

“Just got it. Surprising, isn’t it?”

The Demon King looked Duan Fei up and down, then nodded. “It is quite surprising… Hmm, how about this? I really can’t stay, but if you do one thing for me, I’ll stay and assist you.”

“Is it a big hassle? I’d rather not do anything too troublesome.”

“There are rewards.”

“Then it’s no problem at all. Go on.”

“I need to have my own Divine Hall in a suitable location, with my own Priests. So, I will give you an item, and you will need to travel around with it. When you reach the right place, the item will activate on its own. You’ll receive a prompt and some nice rewards.”

After rummaging through a nearby bookshelf for a moment, the Demon King pulled out a blank book.

The book was bound in the hide of some unknown animal.

The Demon King’s fingertips traced across the cover. As her slender fingers glided over the surface, golden symbols materialized, causing the book to shimmer with a flowing light.

These were words written by a god’s own hand. Every character possessed a mysterious resonance, capable of reaching directly to the world’s very source.

Just watching her write, Duan Fei felt the Divinity within him begin to boil. A strange sensation washed over him, deepening his understanding of Divinity.

When she finished, the simple leather-bound book was automatically sanctified, becoming a divine artifact.

Still, compared to the god from the Void he’d met before, this Demon King was a bit lacking.

“Holy Scripture (Sealed): Uncontaminated, Purple, Can be taken out of the instance.

Description: A scripture recording the thoughts of an Outer God, filled with content incomprehensible to ordinary people. However, each time it is opened, it seems to provide a random, single-use, mid-tier Magic spell. You can use this Magic without any ritual cost, but it will temporarily deduct (5/10/20…) Spirit points. This deduction resets each time you leave the instance.

Sealed: This item is currently sealed. When you arrive at a suitable location, the seal will activate and provide you with further instructions.

This item is Indestructible.

This item cannot be dropped.”

After reading the item’s Description, Duan Fei realized he’d just received a temporary quest—and a rather rewarding one at that.

Satisfied, Duan Fei put the book away and looked at the Demon King. “Alright, I agree. One last request… can I shake your hand?”

“Of course.”

As he shook her hand, Duan Fei instantly copied her Profession: Demon King.

Dungeons all over the world began to tremble. Every chieftain within every Dungeon felt the birth of a vast and evil Power. The Four Heavenly Kings of the Dungeons grew terrified, unable to understand why, when a Demon King already existed, another such formidable Power had appeared.

Even the Demon King beside him stared at Duan Fei in astonishment, baffled as to why he was suddenly erupting with such terrifying Power.

Some existence, one that even she couldn’t comprehend, had lent its Power to Duan Fei. This Power was more akin to a law of the world—or even a Power that could make all other laws of the world bow in submission.

Duan Fei looked down at his own body. He could feel it coursing with Power, but he had no idea how to use it.

Sensing Duan Fei’s confusion, the Demon King smiled and nodded. “I thought you might not need me anymore, but it seems I was wrong. Come, little one. It looks like I need to teach you how to be a proper Demon King.”
