There Must Be Something Wrong With This Game!
Chapter 287 - 52: Rabbit
With this Magic Elixir, the world is mine.
Returning to the Dungeon, the three Slimes handily dispatched the first floor’s boss and entered the second floor, the Dark Level. Then, they decisively drank the Magic Elixir.
The green apple-like Magic Elixir had a refreshing taste. After drinking it, a "-1" appeared above each of their heads, reappearing every five seconds.
Staring at the number, Darts Guest asked in confusion, "Duan Someone, I’m guessing your various unbelievable feats are because of your Talent, but why does this thing have friendly fire?"
"I’m taking damage too, aren’t I?" Duan Fei said helplessly. "Just bear with it. Think of it as being bitten by a Slime."
"That’s the same as saying nothing at all!"
Thanks to the Magic Elixir Duan Fei had concocted, the three Slimes could finally see their surroundings clearly.
It was a vast forest of giant mushrooms. The towering fungi formed a dense, impenetrable canopy overhead, greedily absorbing all light.
Duan Fei tried turning on his phone’s flashlight. He discovered that when a light source appeared, some sort of fluffy thing would also come, devouring the light and everything around it.
Looking at these black, dandelion-like things, Darts Guest observed them for a moment before saying, "Wait a sec. Duan Someone, can I borrow your phone? My phone’s camera resolution isn’t good enough."
Duan Fei lent him his phone and watched as he took pictures of the fluffy things, recorded their characteristics in detail, and posted the information on the forums.
After he was done, he didn’t set off right away. Instead, he examined the nearby mushrooms, carefully verified their properties, and then returned, saying, "Sorry for the wait. I was just recording the ecology of these things to post on the forums, so other players will know how to deal with them."
"You’re too nice!" Duan Fei exclaimed.
"It’s pretty normal, you know. The more we share, the farther other players can go, which increases the probability of completing the event. Besides, sharing just makes you happy."
"That makes sense."
"Don’t worry, I won’t share any information about you guys. I, Darts Guest, know where to draw the line."
Duan Fei nodded. He knew Darts Guest was a decent person, so he let him be.
Thinking about Darts Guest’s actions, Duan Fei felt it made a lot of sense.
’On the surface, it’s altruism, but this behavior helps the overall progress of the entire player base.’
’And as long as one player completes the event dungeon, all players get a reward. This seemingly pure altruism ultimately benefits oneself.’
’Player behavior really is fascinating. It wouldn’t even be an exaggeration to call it a large-scale social experiment.’
After observing his surroundings, Duan Fei more or less understood the situation on the Dark Level.
When a normal person arrives at the Dark Level and realizes how dark it is, their first reaction is to take out a light source—and then tragedy strikes.
The fluffy balls in the darkness would greedily devour the light, along with its owner, leaving nothing behind.
But once you solved this puzzle, you’d discover this level was actually quite simple.
The fluffy balls wouldn’t harm players who didn’t have a light source. They just needed to keep moving forward through the mushroom forest to reach their destination.
After walking for nearly an hour, they finally saw a unique mushroom house appear before them.
Unlike the other black mushrooms, this mushroom house was brightly colored, with a door and windows carved into it.
There was a small chimney on the mushroom’s cap, with smoke puffing out of it. It looked like someone was cooking inside.
Hopping up to the window, the three Slimes saw a rabbit humming a song as it chopped up some ingredients and threw them into a soup pot.
In any other setting, it would have been a scene straight out of a fairy tale.
The problem here was that the rabbit was waaaaaay too buff.
This rabbit looked like a bodybuilder stuffed into a rabbit-themed leotard. Its bulging muscles couldn’t even be contained by its fur, and it looked like it was about to unleash a "Bunny-Bunny Dark Infinity Break" at any moment.
Staring at the creature’s perfectly toned body, Duan Fei said to the other two, "How about... we leave?"
Darts Guest and Cuihua nodded seriously.
The three Slimes tiptoed down from the window and slowly headed back into the darkness. A moment later, they heard the sound of a door opening.
The brawny rabbit came out, arms crossed, its red eyes watching the three slowly retreating Slimes. Then it walked over and snatched the three little guys up in its hand.
Realizing there was no escape, Duan Fei decisively turned and threw the Black Mashed Potatoes into its mouth.
The blackened substance was precisely swallowed. The rabbit’s health began to drop, "-99999" appearing above its head.
Seeing that number, Duan Fei was shocked by its health bar of over ten million, and immediately realized it was probably an unkillable entity.
’But if an unkillable entity was killed, what would happen to the game?’
’Would a new bug appear?’
Duan Fei watched it with great anticipation, and the rabbit also noticed something was wrong with itself.
Looking at its own blackening hand, the rabbit nodded, then fumbled around on its chest.
With the sound of a zipper, it took off its fur as if it were a piece of clothing and tossed it aside.
The poison that had been inside the rabbit transferred directly to the discarded pelt, slowly corroding and decaying the fur.
’Damn, this is a gag character!’
The rabbit, having changed its "skin," looked no different than before. It was still just as massive, still just as intimidating.
In its hands, the three players were as small as lumps of modeling clay, easily kneaded and shaped.
After toying with the three players for a while, the rabbit kept Cuihua, who had the "best feel," and placed the other two Slimes on the dining table, thoughtfully tying napkins around them.
Sitting across from the two players, the rabbit sometimes twisted Cuihua into a pretzel, and other times rolled her out like a flatbread.
After playing for a bit, the contents of the pot began to boil.
Satisfied, it ladled out two bowls of thick soup and placed them in front of Duan Fei and Darts Guest. The rabbit finally spoke.
Its voice was coarse and raspy, the kind of voice you’d expect from a character who could tear steel plates apart with their bare hands.
"Before you are two bowls of soup. You may only choose one of them to drink. If you choose wrong, you will die."
After speaking, it stared at the two players, its crimson eyes filled with mockery and scorn.
Darts Guest stared at the soup in front of him and whispered, "Duan Fei, I’ll drink first. If I’m right, we both live. If I’m wrong, I’ll die, and you can continue on."
"A rational choice, but its phrasing is a little strange. It sounds like it’s playing a word game. Don’t tell me one of these bowls is literally named ’One of Them’."
Duan Fei was just idly speculating, but the rabbit’s movements clearly stiffened.
Seeing the restless rabbit, Duan Fei and Darts Guest exchanged a look.
’Damn, it really is a gag character!’
