The Wizard's Pursuit of Truth
Chapter 87 - 86: Law Enforcement Wizard, Mission Change
An indescribable panic gripped Wang Ya’s heart. The feeling was sudden, yet crystal clear.
It struck just after he placed the special heart into his Witchcraft Ring.
He couldn’t ignore this feeling. Every premonition had a cause, an omen.
He glanced around. The town had fallen deathly silent, with hardly a living thing in sight.
The most likely explanation was that the Evil God had mobilized.
The mysterious heart he had taken was suspected to be flesh from the Evil God’s true body.
Wang Ya’s brow furrowed. ’This Evil God isn’t something I can handle. I’ve already used up almost all of my tricks.’
WHOOSH!
A violent gale erupted from the Void, and the town’s tall buildings collapsed one after another.
Dust filled the air as rubble and debris flew everywhere. The sudden gale formed a tornado, sweeping up everything in its path. An indescribably terrifying aura descended upon the area.
ROAR!
A sharp bark echoed from within the gale. A gigantic Gundas’ Dog materialized from the Void. Countless balls of flesh shot from its body, landing in every corner of the town.
The flesh balls then dispersed into countless living tendrils, which shot out like mad rays, destroying everything still standing.
In the span of a single breath, the town was reduced to absolute ruin. Buildings, human corpses, and any remaining life were all ground into the rubble.
’No, it’s not here. My origin isn’t here. Damn it, where did it go?’
Gendas couldn’t suppress his fury. The flesh tendrils began to spread rapidly outward from the town’s center.
As time passed, the tendrils—like thin, writhing snakes—multiplied. They even took root in trees, devouring their Vitality.
Everywhere they passed became Desolate. Even the small insects beneath the soil could not escape this fate.
Gendas sensed it all but ignored the thrill of pleasure transmitted back by the tendrils. If not for his fear of the powerful Wizards in the Material Realm, he could have devoured vast amounts of Biological Energy and souls in a short time.
He understood the principle of playing the long game, which was why he lurked in the Human Kingdom, quietly growing his power through faith.
The tendrils moved with incredible Speed, almost too fast for the naked eye to follow. A hundred meters, a thousand, ten thousand, and even farther... Nothing. He still hadn’t found his origin.
The giant Gundas’ Dog opened its long, flat maw and let out a vicious, furious roar.
Having lost one-fifth of his origin, he would need to devour the flesh and souls of at least two or three entire Human Kingdoms to recover.
He had modified that human to better use the receiver in its right arm to absorb other Gundas’ Dogs, ultimately merging them into the crimson flesh to gain more of his origin.
’I can sense when a powerful Wizard enters my territory. A mistake like this shouldn’t have been possible.’
Gendas couldn’t understand it, and his heart was bleeding. All his hard work had been for nothing.
The flesh-and-blood eyes on the heads formed by the tendrils revealed a crazed look.
’In that case, I’ll just devour everything!’
He decided to go all out. As long as he devoured enough flesh and souls before the powerful Wizards could react, he could make up for his loss.
Its massive body suddenly exploded into countless tendrils, like thin snakes, that spread in all directions to devour everything. This time, even the very land began to turn to desert.
...
On a mountain path in a Primitive Forest, the figure of a man in a Gray Wizard Robe slowly condensed from the Void, solidifying until it had a tangible presence.
The golden pocket watch looked as ordinary as ever. Its hour and minute hands were frozen, and the slip of paper with Wang Ya’s information was still clipped to the lid.
Wang Ya closed the watch. He had used its targeted reversal ability, and for the next twenty-four hours, he would be unable to use the golden pocket watch again.
But as Wang Ya’s final trump card, its Effect had worked perfectly. He was now a great distance away from the town.
He had reversed his own time, returning to twenty-four hours prior.
His current location was the exact spot he had occupied at that very second, twenty-four hours ago.
If Wang Ya had been severely injured, using the golden pocket watch would have also reverted his State to what it was twenty-four hours ago.
A look of amazement was in his eyes. No matter how many times he used it, the golden pocket watch was always staggering. It was impossible to even imagine the principles behind it.
It was like a special law of reality itself.
Whether the Evil God had acted personally or not, the sense of panic had been undeniable. He had used the golden pocket watch without a moment’s hesitation.
He couldn’t be bothered to worry about what would happen next in the Maya Kingdom. He had already done everything he was supposed to.
The information was in the True Sight Ball.
’Let the Wizards at the Dark Land headquarters handle it. I hear there’s a Law Enforcement Department that deals with these kinds of incidents.’
...
As the white light of the Teleportation Witch Array faded, Wang Ya opened his eyes to find himself back in the Dark Land.
Many Wizards were coming and going through the portals. The Teleportation Tower didn’t handle teleportations one by one; you could go to different floors for different destinations, so there was rarely a queue.
They passed each other in silence, at most sparing Wang Ya a curious glance, assuming he was just another Wizard returning from a task.
Under the observation of his Eye of Truth, he saw their Power was generally at the Level 1 Wizard Apprentice rank.
Some were in teams, setting out to complete Wizard Tasks. Most were high-difficulty C Level tasks with good rewards.
The Dark Library of the Lower House was located east of the Dark Wizard Academy and north of the Business District.
The building itself resembled a tower, though it was less magnificent than the Teleportation Tower or the Wizard Towers.
Many Wizards came and went, making it the busiest place in the entire Dark Land. The first floor was for submitting tasks, while the second floor was for borrowing books on strange phenomena and Wizard history.
The space was vast, containing numerous task-processing rooms.
The process was almost entirely automated. A Wizard would use their Wizard Mark to enter a processing room, and the Dark Wizard Technology Hub would automatically handle the inquiries.
Of course, to claim the rewards, the Wizard had to go to the Resource Management Department themselves. All the relevant task information was recorded.
"Lower House Wizard Wang Ya Harak, have you completed your assigned task? If completed, please submit your True Sight Ball."
A voice devoid of any emotion echoed through the room.
Wang Ya looked at the projected image on the mechanical wall before him. The text displayed the details of his assigned task, the ’Vengeful Spirit Incident.’
"There’s a discrepancy in the assigned task," Wang Ya said. "The mission briefing doesn’t match the actual situation."
"Please insert the True Sight Ball. The Dark Hub will screen the information for confirmation," the voice replied.
A slot opened in the wall, perfectly sized for a True Sight Ball.
Wang Ya spoke again. "I can confirm an Evil God sacrificial event has occurred in the Maya Kingdom—"
Before Wang Ya could even finish, the blue glow on the mechanical wall instantly turned blood-red.
The voice spoke again, but this time it sounded human.
"This is the task management Wizard, Wade. Your information is extremely important. Bring the True Sight Ball to the task management office, at the very back of the first floor. I’ll be waiting for you at the entrance."
