Chapter 1205: Hyperion Shards
Chapter 1205: Hyperion Shards
Ultimately, the group still ended up riding the rundown starship called the Black Cockroach, which surprisingly flew without an issue.
Although Vaan had some questions about the ship’s name, he abstained from asking. It wasn’t his ship. Thus, he shouldn’t have a reason to care why it was called as such. Yet, upon further thought, he found it somewhat fitting.
Despite the Black Cockroach’s poor state, it still flew just fine. Indeed, it was quite the tenacious bugger.
"We’ve passed so many shattered star fragments, yet it’s still an endless sea of them ahead. How many stars have been devoured by the Umbral Edge, exactly?" Seraphina wondered with surprise.
They had only glimpsed a small part of the Umbral Edge during their travel, yet the shattered star region seemed endless.
Seraphina couldn’t imagine how many more shattered star fragments were scattered across the entire Umbral Edge. Still, she guessed that the devoured stars must be at least in the billions.
"Indeed, many stars must have been devoured by the Umbral Edge," Vaan said, nodding. "I’m surprised this has not alerted the Grand Human Unity Clan."
"Does the Grand Unity Human Clan not care if Umbral Edge devours entire Star Kingdoms and Star Empires? Or is it aware of the issue but unable to resolve it?" Vaan wondered.
"I am unclear on this matter. However, that is the Grand Unity Human Clan’s private issue. Outsiders shouldn’t have a say on how the Grand Unity Human Clan should manage its vast territories."
"More importantly, if they were aware of Umbral Edge’s issue, then I will be very displeased that the Grand Unity Human Clan did not spread the information to warn travelers visiting from other Star Sectors."
"This is a serious dereliction of duty and responsibility. Absolutely inconsiderate to its neighbors," Empyrean Oceanheart said with a frown.
Although Empyrean Oceanheart was quite unhappy over this matter, she was also just venting her frustration over their situation. She didn’t seriously blame the Grand Unity Human Clan.
After all, given the vast distance between the core of Umbral Edge and the Grand Unity Human Clan, it wouldn’t be strange at all for it to take thousands of years for any information to reach it.
If the current change to Umbral Edge had truly happened only within the last ten years, then it was indeed too soon for the Grand Unity Human Clan to learn about it.
"There are traces of strange crystals up ahead. We can stop there to study them."
Empyrean Oceanheart suddenly noticed a shattered star fragment in the distance with some glittering traits, resembling strange crystals when they reflect starlight.
"Great." Vaan nodded before checking, "How’s the Edge Sweeper’s position?"
"At its current distance and pace, we have about three months before it catches up to us. While it is slow, it is surely still coming after us."
Empyrean Oceanheart checked with her sensory spell.
Vaan was somewhat surprised to hear how much time they had to study strange crystals in their current location.
Indeed, the Edge Sweeper’s travel speed could not compare to an Empyrean God’s.
"Three months is quite a lot of time," Vaan thought before asking, "Can you fully recover your magical power expenditure during this time, Empyrean Oceanheart?" ṛäN𝖔βÈ𐌔
"I’m afraid that would be difficult," Empyrean Oceanheart seriously answered before explaining, "The Umbral Edge is full of dark matter and dark energy among varying forces of darkness."
"The mana is quite scarce in this shatter star region. Even if mana is present, it is predominantly impure, tainted by these various dark forces. Refining large quantities of it is rather troublesome."
"Furthermore, it is rather dangerous to absorb mana for refinement too quickly when this shattered star region has crystal dust presence," Empyrean Oceanheart reminded.
Vaan couldn’t help but acknowledge her statement.
Indeed, given the needs and capabilities of an Empyrean God, Empyrean Oceanheart’s absorb large amounts of mana within a region to restore her magical power very quickly.
Unfortunately, the current environment was just very unfavorable for her.
If she wasn’t careful, she could indeed draw in large amounts of crystal dust, potentially inflicting fatal harm upon not only herself but also their entire group.
As such, while Empyrean Oceanheart could restore her magical power, she had to exercise great restrain and control by limiting the range and speed of absorption. Such a process would be very slow.
Suddenly, Vaan had a thought.
If he utilized the Nihility Law, wouldn’t he be able to convert the vast amounts of dark matter and dark energy into mana?
Moreover, he had already exposed the Nihility Law previously when he tried to fend off the passing shadow. In fact, it was quite surprising that Empyrean Oceanheart and Seraphina hadn’t already questioned him on this power.
’Although exposing the Nihility Law to other people is dangerous, Empyrean Oceanheart and Seraphina can be trusted,’ Vaan mused.
His Boundless Sea and Sky Aura’s influence over them was also an added layer of assurance. On top of that, they were braving the dangers of Umbral Edge together, their fates intertwined.
They needed to rely on each other if they wanted to survive or even escape Umbral Edge.
Of course, Empyrean Oceanheart’s magical power reserve was far from low. Thus, there was no need to rush this matter.
The study of strange crystals took priority.
"Be careful."
"I will."
Following Empyrean Oceanheart’s reminder, Vaan ventured off but not too far, still well within her range of protection. He needed a closer look at the strange crystals on the crescent-shaped, shattered star fragment.
"This is..."
Vaan scrutinized the strange crystals with Omni-sense.
Ding!
