The Villain's Story

Chapter 877 - 877: The character of James Smith.

The memories of the previous iterations had flooded his mind, giving Alan a clear grasp of everything that had happened, especially what had happened after his birth.

It made him hate James even more, but there was one thing in particular he didn’t get. There wasn’t anything about it in his memories.

At first, Alan thought he had missed it, so he kept searching, and searching, but eventually found nothing.

He was aware of how James had created him, aware of what he had to go through to do it, and the other small steps involved. But one thing was unclear.

Why? Why go through all that trouble? Why? Was it some psychotic obsession with perfection? The need of a creator to make a masterpiece? He didn’t seem like that kind of guy.

Granted, Alan would never say he knew exactly what James was, but even then, this was too far-fetched. He wasn’t the type to go through all this trouble if there was no significant reason. But what was that damn reason?

It didn’t exist in his memories at all. There was information about a lot of things, but never the reason why James went through all that trouble to make him.

Just why?

“Curious?”

Valus said, reading Alan’s mind. He was just like his sister, poking at Alan’s mind whenever he pleased.

“God, I hate that damn ability so much.”

“You should get used to it by now.”

Alan grunted and asked.

“Well, may I know why? He isn’t the type to go through all that effort for this.”

“For this? Do you know you are the one capable of using all three energies? Many, far more capable than you have tried for thousands of years to even be close to achieving synergy between aura and mana.”

Valus chuckled, finishing his weird concoction. Alan was glad it was gone; the disgusting smell was burning his nostrils. Having heightened senses was a demerit at times. Valus waited for a few seconds before asking Alan a simple question.

“What kind of man do you think James was? If you had to define his character, how would you describe it?”

“An asshole.”

Valus chuckled at the immediate response. He agreed to it.

“Yes, yes, he was, the worst asshole there is. But there’s something more about him. Something so pathetic when it’s mentioned, but also the driving force behind him to create you, the most difficult task there ever was.

The driving force behind his character, his insanity, and most importantly, the way he went about things. Care to guess what it is?”

Alan remained silent this time, thinking of what it could be. What sort of obsession did he have? What psychotic obsession or unique thing did he have that made him what he was?

He had many guesses, but nothing felt right, honestly. He was at a loss, and simply opted for Valus to continue, shaking his head in dismay.

However, he didn’t ever think the answer would be something like that. It was something he never even considered. The driving force behind whatever crazy thing James did was simple.

It was something every being possessed at one point in their lives, perhaps only a little of it, but everyone always had it.

It was something so common, so pathetic, and yet it perfectly fit him.

Valus answered, with a slight smirk on his face.

“An inferiority complex.”

“…”

Alan was at a loss for words. He tilted his head, confused.

“Really?”

Valus nodded.

“That is the simplest way to describe him. He has an inferiority complex. An inferiority complex so great that it led him to prove the greatest thing in this universe wrong. To do the one thing that it couldn’t.”

He continued.

“It was that inferiority complex that spurred things into action; it was that inferiority complex that made him deal the most fatal blow to the Abyss, and it was that inferiority complex that made him risk everything.

Everything he did was because someone ticked him off, everything was because someone considered themselves to be superior to him, and declared it. The slaughter of his family in his original universe. His rise to ascension in this one, the various schemes he pulled. Making the abyss fear him, making Celestia wary of his every action, and most of all.

You.

The only being to ever be capable of wielding the three energies. You are the only one who is a perfected hybrid of the three strongest species to ever exist. Dragon, God Beast, and Void Spawn. With demonic and celestial blood as well. You’re the one thing that the creator tried to make for so long, for hundreds of thousands of years, and you know what?

James did it in half a century.”

Alan remained silent, thinking about things. He didn’t think there would be so much he didn’t know, even after his memories were complete. He approached the Supreme and asked.

“Who pissed him off? Who is this creator?”

“The conscience of the Universe. That is who we term the creator. The universe is a realm, just like the Abyss and Celestia; therefore, it also has a conscience.

The thing that made the Abyssal Conscience and the Celestial Conscience the constructors of every world, and most importantly. Us.”

Alan joked.

“So… this thing, the creator is who pissed James off, but why? Was he what, racist or something? Just because the bastard comes from another universe? Universalist? No, that doesn’t sound right…”

As Alan tried to think of a word, Valus looked him straight in the eyes. It was a very serious stare; he didn’t blink, and neither did his pupils move even a single bit.

Alan noticed that stair, and almost choked. For a moment, he didn’t want to believe it. After all, he was only joking. Trying to lighten up the serious atmosphere.

But the dead stare Valus gave him made everything clear, and Alan stuttered.

“No way… All of this? All of this just because of fucking racism???”

“Yes.”
