Chapter 240: Chapter 240: Charming Fei Zhao 5

Fei Zhao led Su An’an to a dilapidated thatched hut on the border of the Fox Clan’s territory. The wooden door creaked open.

The hut was dim and damp, with cobwebs clinging to the corners. The air was thick with the bitter smell of herbs, mingled with the raw scent of soil.

The old witch doctor sat hunched on a low stool, his cloudy eyes fixed on the pendant hanging from Fei Zhao’s chest.

His voice was as hoarse as if it had been scraped with sandpaper. "The Broken Bone Tribe is no place for you."

Su An’an frowned slightly and took a step forward.

"Why? Is there something special about them?"

The old witch doctor’s withered fingers tapped on the dusty tabletop. His knuckles were a bruised, bluish-black.

"They don’t believe in the Beast God. They only worship the God of Fertility, believing that only the purest bloodlines are worthy of procreating."

He let out a cold laugh, the wrinkles at the corners of his mouth deepening into ravines.

"As for mixed-bloods and Wasted Females? They either become sacrifices on an altar or are turned into ’nutrients’—while still alive—to water their Holy Grass."

"Holy Grass?" Su An’an raised an eyebrow. "You mean Bone-breaking Grass?"

"That’s right!" the old witch doctor nodded.

Fei Zhao’s nine foxtails instantly went rigid, the fur at their tips standing on end.

"How did my mother escape from them?"

The old witch doctor fell silent for a moment, his cloudy eyes gazing out the window.

"Gu Xue was a once-in-a-century Holy Female of the Broken Bone Tribe. Her bloodline was special, said to be capable of birthing the most powerful offspring."

He paused, his voice dropping lower. "But she refused to participate in their twisted rituals, so she secretly escaped with the help of the Red Fox Clan."

The old witch doctor heaved a long sigh and shook his head.

"Unfortunately, the Red Fox High Priest was no good, either. He just treated her as a breeding tool."

"I already killed the Red Fox High Priest."

A ruthless light flashed in Fei Zhao’s eyes, and his claws extended reflexively.

"I will uncover my mother’s past. If anyone in the Broken Bone Tribe also harmed her..."

Before he could finish, a palpable killing intent filled the air, making the room’s temperature plummet.

"Calm down!" Su An’an squeezed Fei Zhao’s hand, her warmth flowing into him.

She then turned to the old witch doctor with a sincere expression.

"We’re not just here to uncover the past of Fei Zhao’s mother. We also need to shatter the conspiracy of the Rebel Army remnants."

"They’re colluding with the Broken Bone Tribe. There’s no telling how many more people they will harm."

Seeing their resolve, a complex emotion flickered in the old witch doctor’s cloudy eyes before he let out a sigh.

"If you insist on going, then you must do exactly as I say."

He tremblingly took a small Bone Knife from within his robes. The blade had a dull, yellowed sheen. He gestured for Fei Zhao to extend his wrist.

"To fake the Holy Female Bloodline, we must use the blood of a Holy Female’s son. Only then can you fool their bloodline test."

Fei Zhao took the Bone Knife and sliced open his palm without a moment’s hesitation.

Beads of blood dripped into a ceramic bowl, spreading into dark red ripples at the bottom.

The old witch doctor dipped into the blood and painted a complex totem on Su An’an’s wrist.

The dark red markings on her fair skin seemed to squirm like a living thing, emitting a strange glow.

"Now,"

the old witch doctor said hoarsely, "use your ability to absorb it."

Su An’an closed her eyes and activated her Genetic Reorganization ability. A faint, pink Divine Light emanated from her palm.

Fei Zhao’s blood slowly seeped into her skin along the lines of the totem, causing a warm, stinging sensation.

The pink fox ears nestled in her hair twitched, and her cherry-pink strands of hair stirred as if in a breeze.

When she opened her eyes again, the girl reflected in the bronze mirror on the table bore a striking resemblance to Fei Zhao’s mother, Gu Xue.

Her bright, almond-shaped eyes shimmered with light, her slightly upturned nose had a charming innocence, and even the natural curve of her lips was identical.

Fei Zhao’s breath caught in his throat. His fingertips curled unconsciously, and his tails went ramrod straight.

’He had never imagined that seeing Su An’an with his mother’s face would stir such complex emotions within him.’

The old witch doctor put away the ceramic bowl and waved a dismissive hand.

"Go back now. They will come for you in less than three hours."

「In a run-down inn in the Qingshi Tribe, the room reeked of mildew.」

The bed boards let out a creaking groan with every shift in weight, a sound that was especially jarring in the silent night.

Su An’an sat by the window, bathed in the soft, silvery glow of the moon.

The fox ears nestled in her pink hair twitched occasionally in the night breeze.

"Will they really come?"

she asked softly, her fingertips unconsciously tracing the faded totem on her wrist.

Fei Zhao caressed the pendant of his necklace. Inside, the bone fragment caught the moonlight with a cold glint.

"The Broken Bone Tribe’s obsession with my mother’s Holy Female Bloodline is more powerful than a moth’s attraction to a flame."

He paused, then added, "Especially now, when the Rebel Army needs their support."

A black shadow suddenly flitted past the window, the gust of wind it created rustling the paper pane.

The two exchanged a look in an instant. The prey had taken the bait.

In the darkness, a pair of green eyes peered through a crack in the window.

The pupils reflected Su An’an’s twitching fox ears, glittering with greed.

Su An’an feigned a yawn, lay down on the bed, and pulled the thin blanket up to her shoulders.

She slowed her breathing to feign sleep, but her muscles were coiled tight, her fingers secretly closing around the dagger hidden beneath her pillow.

Fei Zhao lay beside her, deliberately hunching his back to look timid and fearful.

Only the tips of his tails, hanging at his side, remained poised to strike at a moment’s notice.

A wisp of black mist seeped in from under the door. It twisted and swirled on the floor, gradually coalescing into several figures.

They were members of the Fox Clan, their bodies covered in black tattoos. Their eyes shone with an eerie green light in the darkness, like the pupils of wolves in the dead of night.

The leading male fox raised a hand and sprinkled a handful of transparent Scale Powder over Su An’an.

The powder landed in her hair and instantly turned a glaring red, burning like an ember in the dim room.

His voice was as cold as ice. "Just as I thought. A descendant of Lady Gu Xue. The purity of her bloodline is even higher than expected."

Su An’an feigned a startled gasp, shrinking back in panic and frantically clutching her collar.

"Who are you? Why have you burst into my room?"

"Enough talk. You’re coming with us."

The tall male fox next to him reached out impatiently to grab her arm, his sharp nails a bruised, bluish-black.

Fei Zhao’s eyes narrowed. He leaped from the corner, feigning panic, and deliberately bumped into the male fox.

"Don’t hurt my Female Master! We can talk about this!"

The tall male fox impatiently kicked out at Fei Zhao. "Get lost, you piece of trash! Who do you think you are, touching a Holy Female?"

"Don’t hurt him!"

Su An’an bit her trembling lip, her eyes welling with tears.

"I’ll go with you, but he is my Beast Husband. He has to come with me."

She deliberately said the words "Beast Husband" quickly and softly, as if afraid they’d refuse.

The leader sneered, glancing at Fei Zhao as if he were already a corpse.

"Fine. He’s just a weakling. Bring him. It’ll keep this little female from crying and causing trouble."

Fei Zhao collapsed helplessly to the floor, his bangs hiding half his face.

But his gaze was as cold as a tempered blade, and in the shadows, the tip of his tail slowly coiled, gathering power.
