Chapter 189: Chapter 188: A Difficult Battle

Even as Gu Su deployed his forces, the Six-legged Lizard wasn’t idle.

Its foremost pair of stout forelimbs latched firmly onto the Graveyard Demon’s wall, its sharp claws digging deep into the structure and tearing open fissures in the outermost layer.

The wall’s surface peeled away, revealing the grayish-red slurry filler and the diagonally embedded Wooden Spears within. Several of the spears had already been snapped by its brute force.

Its three other legs desperately pushed against the ground, forcing the Graveyard Demon sideways. The creature’s massive body shoved it, little by little, to the side. The stone spheres beneath the foundation emitted a piercing grinding sound. Some were even squeezed out of the lubricating layer to roll away on the ground.

Its great, tusk-filled maw wasn’t idle either. It clamped down on the vines covering the lower half of the wall and thrashed its head wildly, attempting to rip the clinging vines out by their roots.

Its tusks pierced deep into the vines as it yanked outward. The thick vines pulled taut, groaning and creaking as if about to snap.

The vines trembled violently from the assault, and their thick roots began to snap one by one.

The Corroding Mycelium entwined with the vines was torn to shreds, scattering white powder everywhere.

The lower half of the wall was exposed, revealing mottled brick, cement, rebar, and the white bones that the vines had concealed for years.

Gu Su glanced over and immediately knew the situation was dire. He gave a decisive command.

"Bone Dogs, tear it apart."

The words had barely left his lips when the pack of Bone Dogs waiting on the wall sprang into action.

Over one hundred and fifty Bone Dogs moved without hesitation, without a sound, without pause.

They leaped from the wall, a cascading white waterfall pouring straight into the giant lizard’s cavernous maw.

Some landed on the lizard’s head and slid into its mouth. Others leaped directly into the great maw as it chewed on the vines, burrowing deep into the oral cavity. Still others were snagged on its tusks, and hanging from the corners of its mouth, they desperately clawed their way inside, digging their Bone Claws into the gaps between its teeth to forcefully drag themselves in.

No matter how thick the lizard’s hide was, the inside of its mouth was its softest part—to say nothing of the internal organs further down.

The Bone Dogs had found its weak spot.

The lizard froze, instinctively trying to snap its mouth shut.

But the Bone Dogs were already inside.

They tore frantically at the inside of the lizard’s mouth. Some bit down on its tongue, their sharp teeth sinking deep into the flesh.

Others gnawed on its gums until its mouth was full of blood, while some burrowed deeper toward its throat, their claws scrabbling wildly in its esophagus.

The lizard thrashed its head violently, trying to shake them out, but the Bone Dogs clamped down and refused to let go.

It let out a muffled roar of pain, but with its mouth so full, the sound was garbled and indistinct.

The lizard was a capable beast, however. Just because it couldn’t bite them didn’t mean it was out of options.

The lizard opened its mouth, and a torrent of Acidic Liquid spewed from its throat.

This was all stomach acid. The Bone Dogs were hardly resilient Warriors, and they were instantly dissolved.

A cold glint flashed in Gu Su’s eyes as he watched this unfold.

He extended his right hand, palm down, aiming at the lizard’s still-thrashing mouth.

"Subordinate Corpse Explosion."

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM—!

A series of muffled explosions echoed from deep within the lizard’s oral cavity.

The Giant Beast’s head snapped back violently. A thick plume of smoke mixed with flesh and Broken Bones erupted from its mouth, within which fragments of the Bone Dogs’ remains were visible.

Its entire body convulsed, and the forelimbs latched firmly onto the wall lost their strength. Its thick claws slid down the surface, leaving deep gouges in their wake.

The vines seized this opportunity to tighten abruptly.

The vines, which had been torn to the brink of snapping, seemed to come alive. Writhing like nimble snakes, they swarmed up the lizard’s head, binding its tusks tightly. Some even slithered into the corners of its gaping mouth.

The vines grew ever tighter, binding the lizard’s upper and lower jaws together and making it impossible for it to open its mouth.

Thinner vines worked their way into the gaps between its teeth, thicker ones wrapped around its head, and still others constricted around its neck, pulling ever tighter.

The lizard thrashed its head wildly, using its foreclaws to tear at the vines, but they only wrapped tighter, digging into its flesh.

In its pain, it began to slam its head against the wall.

THUD—THUD—With each impact, the wall shook violently, but the harder it slammed, the tighter the vines became.

At the same time, the Bone Dogs that had not yet entered the fray began to charge toward the lizard’s mouth, renewing the Attack on its insides.

Meanwhile, inside the Graveyard Demon, the battle was also raging.

During the earlier charge, several dozen Lizardmen had taken advantage of the chaos to climb up the wall.

They clambered over the wall, landing inside the Graveyard Demon, and shrieked as they lunged for the nearest buildings. However, they had barely taken a few steps before being intercepted by Gu Su’s forces.

Bone Forest and Bone Joint.

These two Skeleton Bosses had finally gotten their chance.

Over the last few days, they’d had less time in the spotlight than Healthy Body of the Walking Dead.

At least Healthy Body got to go out and clean up the battlefield.

They’d had no real opportunity to join the battle, even with their own Skeleton Warriors.

They were too far from the action, and they had missed the chance to jump on the lizard’s back because they weren’t as fast as the Bone Dogs. This wouldn’t do. They were supposed to be Gu Su’s main force.

If they didn’t get to make an appearance soon, they’d...

Now that they finally had a rare chance to fight some Lizardmen, how could they possibly pass it up?

There were only a few dozen Lizardmen, but Bone Forest and Bone Joint charged forward with their subordinates, having no intention of letting a single one escape.

’This is our chance to rack up achievements! To prove to Gu Su that we can still fight!’

’Hopefully, the next time there’s a chance for Five Ghosts Spirit Communication, he’ll include us.’

If they couldn’t participate in the battle, they might as well be dead from frustration.

And so, under their assault, the Lizardmen who had clambered up didn’t even have the chance to leap down from the wall into the Graveyard Demon proper.

They were surrounded by the Skeleton Warriors and completely overwhelmed.

And deeper inside the Graveyard Demon, the Ordinary Skeletons were waiting with their Long Spears at the ready.

There were several hundred Ordinary Skeletons, and if Bone Forest and Bone Joint hadn’t been monopolizing the fight, they would have already charged in.

For the few dozen Lizardmen, however, this was hardly a good thing. A single Skeleton Warrior could take down one of them in a one-on-one fight, but now several were swarming each one, all trying to land the killing blow.

They were essentially being insta-killed the moment they appeared.

But because the Skeleton Warriors were all competing for the kills, the Lizardmen paradoxically managed to survive a few moments longer.

But even with their borrowed time, something felt off. An invisible wave suddenly emanated from the direction of the Deceitful Tree.

The wave was silent and traceless, yet it spread out like a ripple, sweeping across the entire battlefield.

Then, a strong wind from the Deceitful Tree sent the seeds of the Big Leaf Lilies fluttering everywhere, making it look as though the sky were raining down Paper Money.
