The Undead Calamity Begins with a Graveyard Demon
Chapter 138 - 137: New Stopping Point, the Doomsday Plain
Chapter 138: Chapter 137: New Stopping Point, the Doomsday Plain
Gu Su was crouched in an empty room on the second floor of the wall, engrossed in studying the modification plans for the control room, completely oblivious to the passage of time.
Just then, the transfer sequence from Ghost Valley officially initiated. A faint wave of energy traveled along the walls of the Graveyard Demon, interrupting his thoughts.
This transfer process was just as bizarre as the last. Gu Su stood up the moment he sensed something was amiss, but he was still a little too late.
A low hum emanated from the depths of Ghost Valley. An instant later, a dazzling golden light pierced through the valley’s gloom, completely illuminating the Graveyard Demon.
The next second, an invisible yet immensely powerful force pushed from behind the Graveyard Demon. It was a steady, heavy pressure that enveloped the entire structure, as if gently feeding it into an invisible spatial tunnel. The surrounding light and shadows instantly twisted and blurred.
Immediately after, the dull sound of CLUNK, CLUNK echoed in Gu Su’s ears, accompanied by a slight jolting sensation. He had no idea what was happening.
By the time he processed what had happened, the Graveyard Demon had already completed its transfer, arriving smoothly at the designated stop in DT-501 District.
Gu Su immediately scrambled up from the room on the second floor of the wall. He hurried up the stairs to the top, grasped the railing, and eagerly peered out at his new surroundings.
The sight made Gu Su freeze in place, a flicker of astonishment in his eyes.
Compared to the neat and orderly stop in Ghost Valley in DT-160 District, which was nevertheless filled with the aura of Yin Souls, the stop in DT-501 District was far more dilapidated and barren. It had the desolate feel of a post-apocalyptic ruin.
The entire stop was covered in a thick layer of black ash. The ground was soft and powdery, and every footstep kicked up fine dust that made one choke and wrinkle their nose.
In the distance, the ground was scarred with gullies of varying depths, as if it had been crushed by some immense force. Rusted Metal fragments and the debris of abandoned buildings were scattered amongst the black ash, exuding an air of deathly silence.
To Gu Su, the scene looked as if it had just been nuked. The desolation was enough to make his heart sink.
What Gu Su found most surreal was the fractured sun hanging halfway over the distant horizon. Its light was dim and weak, offering no warmth. Instead, it cast a hazy, gray filter over the barren landscape.
He squinted, studying it for a moment. He couldn’t tell if the sun was a real celestial body in the Game World or just an illusory projection from the Ring Moon. That, however, was not his main concern right now.
His attention was now fixed on the conditions at the stop itself.
Unlike the densely packed and neatly arranged Mobile Cities in Ghost Valley, there weren’t many here. They were scattered sparsely in various corners, separated by vast distances, making the area feel quite empty.
Besides a few proper-looking Mobile Cities, the edges of the stop were lined with what looked like doomsday-style RVs, crudely modified from pickup trucks and vans.
Their bodies were riddled with rust, their shells reinforced with thick, welded steel plates. The windows were sealed shut with more steel, leaving only a few tiny observation slits. They looked both crude and dilapidated.
Skeletons were mounted on the exteriors as decorations, as if to display some kind of personality.
Gu Su stared at the RVs for a long time. ’He wasn’t quite sure what they were for.’
’If these things also count as Mobile Cities, their Level must be even lower than the Graveyard Demon I started with. They don’t even have the most basic territory.’
’But if they aren’t Mobile Cities, then what are they?’
However, on the other side of the stop, Gu Su saw something completely different.
Several Mobile Castles were parked there, each one the very picture of a doomsday fortress. None were particularly tall, but they were all incredibly imposing.
The outer walls of these Mobile Castles were pieced together from heavy metal plates, their surfaces covered in weld seams and rust, giving them a ramshackle appearance.
The castles were mostly three stories high and a dozen or so meters long. Even considering their total area, none were as large as Gu Su’s Graveyard Demon had been initially.
The top floors featured protruding Watchtowers, and the walls bristled with mounted weaponry. Faint black smoke billowed slowly from chimneys, while thick pipes snaked down the walls to connect with water supply units at the base.
Their bases varied in design; some were fitted with enormous rubber wheels, while others used a tread-based system, looking equally capable of handling both flat roads and complex terrain.
The area surrounding these Mobile Castles was a hive of activity. Undead bustled about everywhere, each with a specific task, never idle for a moment.
Some Undead carried heavy metal sheets, hurrying toward the castles’ edges to reinforce the outer walls.
Others held welding torches, crouching on the ground as they concentrated on repairing damage to the castles’ bases. The sparks they created were blindingly bright against the black ash.
Still other Undead pushed handcarts laden with parts and building materials, moving back and forth between the castles. They would occasionally stop to hand off supplies to their comrades.
A few Undead on guard duty stood ramrod straight at the castle gates, holding Long Spears. Their gazes were sharp, vigilantly scanning their surroundings to prevent any unexpected incidents.
A few players were also milling about, looking things over as if making a final decision.
The entire area was permeated with a tense but orderly atmosphere. It was clear they were rushing to build and reinforce their facilities, seemingly making thorough preparations for an impending beast tide.
As Gu Su observed all this, the administrator of the stop noticed the sudden appearance of the Graveyard Demon.
Before long, a hoarse, mechanical voice crackled to life over loudspeakers positioned throughout the stop, its message broadcasting clearly across the entire area. "Welcome to the Sunset Plain stop. All players, please take note of your Mobile City’s designated position and do not move it without authorization.
In accordance with Ring Moon City administrative regulations, all docking fees for Mobile Cities are waived for the duration of the temporary levy.
However, all docked Mobile Cities must submit to the unified command of this district and cooperate with beast tide Defense efforts.
The exit from Sunset Plain is located to the southeast. Players may proceed there at their own discretion.
This is a new district on the outskirts of DT-501 District, and its transportation network is not yet fully developed. Only two shuttle buses run per day, providing direct service to the core city of DT-501 District, Doomsday Ghost City.
Players with urgent business may take a taxi within the district at their own expense.
Additionally, all players must report to the levy point, located to the northwest of Sunset Plain, immediately after docking their Mobile City. Staff there will coordinate your role in the upcoming beast tide Defense. Do not delay.
Repeating this message..."
