The Undead Calamity Begins with a Graveyard Demon
Chapter 122 - 121: Eerie Ghost, Alice
Chapter 122: Chapter 121: Eerie Ghost, Alice
’So... this is really just a blind box.’
After reading the music box’s Attribute Panel from the system, Gu Su rubbed his fingertips across his palm, feeling the strange chill the music box had left behind, and couldn’t help but mutter to himself.
He never would have imagined that the Completely Ruined Alice music box from the game world—an item that could have possessed a powerful, wide-area hypnosis ability—would, after being dismantled and pieced back together by Tooth Bone, transform into an item that summoned a random eerie entity. This was a world of difference from its original purpose.
’But on second thought, this might actually be a good thing.’
Although it no longer had the practical, wide-area hypnosis effect, summoning a personal eerie entity might, with a bit of luck, grant him a Hero Level assistant capable of holding its own. Even a support-type would be a welcome addition to his forces.
Without much hesitation, Gu Su tightened his grip on the music box, flicked the lid with his fingertip, and opened it.
’After all, its Attributes are clear now. Rather than dwelling on what it used to do, I should just see what this summoned Alice looks like and how useful she is.’
The instant the music box’s lid was fully opened, a few sharp CRACKS echoed out. The music box, which Tooth Bone had painstakingly pieced back together, shattered on the spot.
The crudely joined, blood-stained parts CLATTERED to the ground. Some smashed to pieces, while others rolled far away, becoming irreparable wreckage with no hope of being fixed.
Before the sound of the shattering music box faded, a clear and pleasant DING-DONG melody drifted from behind Gu Su, like the gentle jingle of tiny bells. It was mixed with a woman’s soft, melodious laugh—sweet without being cloying, yet tinged with the unique ethereality of a Ghost, utterly out of place in the grim environment.
Struck by a sudden impulse, Gu Su spun around, his gaze instantly locking on to what was in front of him.
A gray, semi-transparent woman was floating lightly in mid-air. Her form was ethereal, as if a gust of wind could blow her away. It was the newly summoned Alice.
This woman was petite, only about 1.5 meters tall, but because she was floating in mid-air, her line of sight was perfectly level with Gu Su’s, allowing them to look at each other without him needing to raise or lower his head.
She had soft, curly hair that tumbled to her shoulders and wore a pristine white dress. The hem swayed gently, giving off an air of purity that stood in eerie contrast to her gray, translucent, ghostly form.
Seeing Gu Su’s gaze fall upon her, she lowered her head slightly, her posture a mix of respect and shyness.
"My name is Alice, my lord."
Her gentle voice was ethereal and meek, tinged with a hint of imperceptible timidity, completely devoid of the malevolent aura typical of a normal Ghost.
[Alice (Level 1, Special Ghost): Experience (0/200), Attack 6, Defense 5, Life 35, Mana 20, Talent: Pathfinding Technique, Skills: Banshee’s Wail, Hypnosis, Flying Unit.]
[Note: Alice can be assigned to the Watchtower or Map Room to earn Experience and level up through pathfinding or map-drawing (Level Cap: Level 20).]
Gu Su’s gaze slowly swept over the Attribute Panel. He tapped his fingers lightly against his palm, falling into deep thought.
’Her Attributes are average, but that’s normal for Level 1. What interests me most are her Talent, Pathfinding Technique, and her designation as a Special Ghost.’
After a moment of contemplation, Gu Su looked up at Alice and asked, "What’s the deal with this Pathfinding Technique?
What exactly can it do?
Also, what’s your classification right now?
Are you the same type as the Undead Bosses and Minions under my command?"
He didn’t beat around the bush, directly asking the questions that concerned him most. After all, only by understanding these things could he properly utilize Alice.
Alice raised her head slightly, a serious look in her gray eyes, and softly explained, "My lord, Pathfinding Technique is my innate Talent.
I can pinpoint directions and find roads suitable for a Mobile City to travel on. I can even find a trace of routes obscured by fog or supernatural barriers.
I can also judge the size of a road and the pressure it can withstand, ensuring the Mobile City won’t get stuck in a ditch it can’t pass through."
After a pause, she continued, "As for my current status, I am neither a Boss nor a Minion under your command, my lord.
I should be considered an independent unit, different from the Undead you command. I can be stationed in different buildings, and by being stationed there, I can enhance the building’s attributes and perform a specialized role."
After hearing Alice’s explanation, Gu Su frowned, finding it a bit hard to understand at first.
After all, in his Graveyard Demon, there were only a handful of available buildings at the moment. Most were basic structures for storing Undead and processing materials. He had never encountered a building type that could be garrisoned by an independent unit to boost its attributes.
Moreover, Gu Su had never specifically studied anything about Mobile Cities before.
After all, his technical college wasn’t exactly teaching this kind of stuff.
He knew very little, having only a half-baked understanding of even the basic operations of a Mobile City, let alone related buildings like the Watchtower and Map Room.
With no one to teach him and no relevant information to reference, he could only rely on his past gaming experience to try and guess the meaning of what Alice called an "independent unit" and "building garrison."
After thinking for a moment and still having no clue, Gu Su waved a hand at Alice and said, "Wait here a moment. I’m going to look some things up and figure out the specifics."
After saying this, Gu Su wasted no more time and turned, walking briskly toward his tent.
As soon as he stepped into the tent, Gu Su immediately began looking through all the information on his Graveyard Demon, focusing on the "Mobile Buildings" section.
Sure enough, in a corner of the panel, the requirements for the Map Room and Watchtower were clearly listed.
However, Gu Su had neither the corresponding building blueprints nor any quests related to these two structures. For a moment, he had no idea where to even start to construct the two buildings Alice needed to be stationed in.
He frowned and looked for a long time, but still couldn’t find any leads, so he could only give up his search for the time being.
Stepping out of the tent, Gu Su’s gaze fell again on Alice, who was still floating in place, waiting respectfully. "Since you need a Watchtower or a Map Room to be effective, do you have the blueprints for these two buildings?"
Alice gently shook her head, her tone tinged with apology as she said softly, "No, my lord."
Gu Su felt a slight pang of disappointment but wasn’t too surprised. ’If it were that easy,’ he thought, ’something like the Graveyard Demon wouldn’t be called a Golden Finger.’
He continued, "Since you don’t have the blueprints, do you have a preference?"
Hearing this question, Alice made her decision without a moment’s thought: "The Watchtower!"
