Hearing the genuine annoyance and lingering fear in Gu Su’s voice, the apologetic look on the middle-aged man’s face deepened. He sighed softly, a complex expression flashing in his eyes.

He had been getting by in the Endless Ghost Wall for so long and had seen all kinds of players. The moment he heard Gu Su, he understood instantly.

The man before him was also a player who had been tricked by that kind of deceptive sales pitch.

Judging by Gu Su’s expression, the exhaustion and wariness in his voice didn’t seem feigned. When he was scammed back then, he must have come dangerously close to losing his life over it.

The middle-aged man cursed himself inwardly. ’We really messed with the wrong person today. That idiot Xiaoliu, daring to provoke a player who’s not only been scammed before but almost died because of it. If we really push him over the edge, we won’t just be unable to operate near this station anymore—we’ll probably attract even bigger trouble.’

While quickly weighing his options, the middle-aged man subconsciously began to rummage through his pocket. His fingertips brushed past a few small items before he selected one and placed it gently on the dining table in front of Gu Su, his movements cautious.

"My apologies, friend. We were in the wrong today. Xiaoliu doesn’t know any better; he upset you with his careless talk.

This is a small token of my apology. It’s not much, but please accept it and don’t let this bother you."

After saying his piece, he didn’t wait for Gu Su’s response. He turned, grabbed the still-dazed Xiaoliu, and dragged him by the arm out of the fast-food restaurant, afraid that staying even a second longer would invite more trouble.

Gu Su’s gaze fell upon the inconspicuous object on the table. A barely perceptible smile flashed in his eyes, and the annoyance and killing intent he had been suppressing mostly dissipated.

He reached out and picked up the item. It was rough to the touch, feeling like a dried Beast Skin. Unfurling it, he saw it was a tattered Beast Skins Scroll. Its edges were yellowed and brittle, and a few lines of blurry text were written on it in dark patterns.

Just then, a DING sounded in Gu Su’s ears, and a prompt appeared before him.

[Five Ghosts Spirit Communication Record (White): A form of Magic that has passed through an unknown number of hands. It has been modified with so much random junk that it no longer has its original function (Can only be learned and used by an Undead Mage).]

’Magic?’

Gu Su raised an eyebrow, his fingertips gently tracing the rough patterns on the Scroll. He fully unfurled the Beast Skins Scroll and read it carefully, word by word, wanting to figure out what trick was hidden within this seemingly useless, white-grade Magic.

The Scroll described in detail a form of Magic called Five Ghosts Spirit Communication. According to the text, this Magic originally claimed to be able to summon the Five Ghosts. It could be used to control the Five Ghosts to move heavy objects and transport items, or to command them to fight in battle, possessing considerable power.

Most importantly, the Five Ghosts could eventually grow, to the point they could even be called gods.

In its original, unmodified form, this Magic could have been considered a "companion-type" Golden Finger, a treasure many low-level players dreamed of obtaining.

However, the version on the Scroll in his hands was completely mangled. It was even more shoddy than the bootleg Graveyard Demon he had been scammed into buying years ago.

At least that bootleg Graveyard Demon, despite passing through countless hands and being modified beyond recognition, was ultimately still a functional Graveyard Demon.

This Five Ghosts Spirit Communication Record, however, had been altered so drastically that it had completely lost the essence of the original Magic. The only reason the system could even classify it as a white-grade item was likely because its original foundation was solid. Otherwise, it wouldn’t even have qualified as a lowest-tier gray-grade item.

Gu Su patiently read through the entire Scroll and quickly grasped the core of the modified Magic.

To put it bluntly, it could hardly be considered real Magic. It was merely a small, collaborative team forcibly assembled by using five Undead of the same type, paired with a vehicle and a communication device.

According to the Scroll’s Explanation, once Gu Su completed the combination, this small team of five Undead could rush to his side at a moment’s notice to await his command.

As for the team’s purpose, whether it was to be used for transporting supplies or for combat, it all depended on the type of Undead chosen for the combination.

If an Undead Team was used, it would be a combat squad; if ordinary Undead were used, it would be a transport squad.

The Scroll also specifically highlighted a key point.

If one wanted this Undead Squad to have the ability to pass through walls, then only Spirit Body Undead, such as Ghosts, could be used in the combination. No other type of Undead, regardless of its power, could achieve this wall-phasing effect.

For this very reason, in the eyes of most Undead Mages, assembling this Five Ghosts Squad required using Ghost-type Undead to leverage its greatest advantage.

But when Gu Su read this, his eyes lit up.

’Things didn’t seem to be limited to just that one possibility.’

’The Scroll only said that it required a combination of five Undead of the same type, but it didn’t say that a person could only maintain one Five Ghosts Squad.’

Once this thought sprouted, it grew like a weed in Gu Su’s mind.

He couldn’t help but imagine that if he figured out exactly what the "vehicle" and "communication device" mentioned in the Scroll were, he would be tempted to organize all the Undead under his command into such Five Ghosts Squads.

Then, whether for combat, transport, or any other task, he would be able to achieve twice the results with half the effort.

For now, however, this was just a preliminary idea. Gu Su mulled it over a little more, the smile in his eyes growing wider.

The Scroll mentioned the Five Ghosts, but it didn’t explicitly state that a Five Ghosts Squad had to be limited to only five Undead.

In his Undead Team, one Minion led twenty-four others, for a total of exactly twenty-five members.

If he divided them into groups of five, wouldn’t that form exactly five Five Ghosts Squads?

Then, if those five Five Ghosts Squads were combined, wouldn’t that form one large Five Ghosts Squad?

At this thought, Gu Su couldn’t help but feel a bit puzzled.

’It’s such a simple idea. Could the scammers who modify the Magic and sell these fakes really not have considered it?’

’Or could it be that the Magic Scroll they obtained was already a version that had been modified many times, long diverged from the original Five Ghosts Spirit Communication Magic, and that’s why they never discovered this hidden application?’

Gu Su frowned and pondered for a moment, but he couldn’t figure out the reason why.

’Forget it. I’ll ignore this for now. First things first, I’ll record the full contents of this Magic Scroll. I can study it slowly later. I’m bound to figure out the key eventually.’

However, before recording the Magic’s contents and attempting to form a Five Ghosts Squad, there was one more thing he had to do first.

He needed to make a trip to the Magic Tower to buy a suitable Magic Book.
