The Undead Calamity Begins with a Graveyard Demon
Chapter 110: Gu Su’s Good Friend and the Profiteer
Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Gu Su’s Good Friend and the Profiteer
Liu Zu?
Hearing a familiar voice behind him, Gu Su instinctively turned around. The moment he saw who it was, he froze for a second, a flicker of surprise in his eyes, before the corners of his mouth slowly curved into a genuine smile.
The person before him was none other than one of the few good friends he’d made during his three years of slogging it out in the Night Ghost Market.
It was Liu Zu, a fellow Undead Mage who had once mined alongside him to scrape by.
However, unlike Gu Su—a transmigrator and an outsider who always tried to avoid others—Liu Zu was a minor celebrity in the lower-class districts of the Night Ghost Market, something of a local All-Knowing.
He had a lively personality and a wide circle of friends, able to strike up a conversation and build a rapport with just about anyone, from the moderately powerful official players down to struggling Game Workers like them.
Even more impressively, he was incredibly well-informed. Whether it was back-alley gossip, unusual activity in the mines, or changes to the city’s rules, he always seemed to be the first to know. He often sought out Gu Su to share these bits and pieces of news, helping to break the monotony of their tedious lives as miners.
Listening to Liu Zu’s urgent and excited chatter, the smile on Gu Su’s face deepened. He went along with the conversation, his tone carrying a subtle hint of pride and relief.
"I haven’t gone anywhere. My Luck was good and I got my hands on a Golden Finger, so I’ve been busy leveling up outside the city these past few days.
See? I’m now a brand-new Level 2 Undead Mage."
"You’re kidding me!" As soon as Liu Zu heard this, his eyes went wide. The excitement on his face was instantly replaced by shock as he took two steps closer, his voice filled with disbelief.
"You’ve done it, man! You actually managed to get a Golden Finger?
Quick, tell me, which of the four core types of Golden Fingers is it? The ’Earth, Magic, Companion, or Wealth’ type?
Did it cost you a fortune?"
Liu Zu’s reaction was just what Gu Su had expected. He smiled, waved his hand dismissively, and explained in a relaxed tone.
"It’s an Earth Type. I got a Graveyard Demon.
It’s only White Quality right now, so it’s not that powerful, but it’s enough for leveling up, grinding mobs, and getting a foothold. It should be enough for me to reach Level 10 and finally leave my days as a Game Worker behind."
"My god! You lucky bastard, you’ve really hit the jackpot!"
After hearing Gu Su out, the shock on Liu Zu’s face transformed into pure delight. He couldn’t help but clap Gu Su heavily on the shoulder, the force making Gu Su flinch slightly.
"Does this mean you’ve finally made it?
You won’t have to slave away with us in the mines anymore, doing that backbreaking work? You can leave the city to conquer the Game World and gain even greater Power?
Next time we meet, am I going to have to start calling you the Little City Lord?"
"Whoa, whoa, stop joking around," Gu Su said, quickly waving his hands. The smile faded from his face, and his tone grew more serious.
"It’s just a White Quality Earth Type Golden Finger. I’m a long way from being anything like a City Lord.
By the way, you were muttering behind me earlier about someone digging up some Green Quality raw ore. What’s the story with that? Tell me the details."
Once the banter was over, Gu Su quickly changed the subject, a flicker of caution and curiosity in his eyes.
In the eyes of Game Workers, who were perpetually stuck at Level 1 and treated White Quality items like treasures, something of Green Quality was already considered a rarity.
What’s more, this was Green Quality raw ore, which could be used for forging or exchanged for Resources. It was bound to cause a huge stir, so he had to pay attention.
The moment the Green Quality raw ore was mentioned, Liu Zu instantly perked up. The smile on his face grew more eager as he lowered his voice and leaned in close to Gu Su’s ear.
"Yeah, yeah! It was Liu the Ninth, from over on South Street. You remember him, right?
You know, that old codger who’s somehow made it to a hundred and nine years old but is still tough as nails? Looks like nothing special, but he’s the craftiest slacker of them all!"
"Liu the Ninth?" Gu Su frowned, thinking back for a moment. Then his eyes lit up, his voice tinged with surprise.
"You mean the Liu the Ninth who only works for half a day whenever he goes mining, then slips off to Red Romance to fool around for the other day and a half? The one who just idles his life away?
He actually managed to find Green Quality raw ore?"
"Yep, yep, that’s the one!" Liu Zu nodded emphatically, his voice full of gossipy excitement.
"You have no idea. He was acting really strange that day. He didn’t even finish his usual half-day shift before he scurried off, looking all secretive. Right away, that caught the attention of the other Game Workers mining nearby.
And you know how it is, that old coot can’t keep his mouth shut. People crowded him, pressured him a bit, and he spilled everything about finding the Green Quality raw ore."
At this point, Liu Zu paused and lowered his voice even more, a hint of nervous excitement in his tone. "And now? The news is out, and the whole mining area has gone completely insane!
To get first dibs on digging that lucky mineral vein, people have blocked off the passages to all the other mines! Everyone, from Game Workers to low-level official players, is stampeding toward No. 3319 Mine. They’re all terrified that if they’re even a little late, they won’t even get the scraps!"
Gu Su had spent a full three years in the Night Ghost Market. He had long since figured out the rules of survival here and knew perfectly well that the "mine" Liu Zu was talking about wasn’t some official game instance. Instead, it was an abandoned Game World that had long ago been cleared and completely conquered by High Tier Players, stripped of all challenge and potential for growth.
These abandoned Game Worlds were sliced into small, completely safe chunks by the Ring Moon’s city system. Then, based on the Attributes and characteristics of each chunk, they were reassembled into small, fragmented world-spaces and stored together in a dedicated area within the city.
